Maddison “Anything wrong?” Michael asked, touching my hair. “Ah . . . nothing.” I smiled, realizing I had zoned out. When I felt relieved, I stood up and walked to and fro. His eyes were fixed on me with the willingness to listen. “It’s everything . . . my parents, my life, my sister, my best friend . . . everything!” I uttered. “Go on, Maddie. I’m all ears,” he said. “I . . . I’ve been keeping this secret for so long, and it’s hard not having anyone to share it with.” Michael stood up and wrapped his arms around me.
