We were sneaking out again.
Troy and Lexa, one of Lia's friends from university, had invited Lia to hang out with them, and Lia wanted to take me with her too. I would have just refused the request but I didn't want to. She was going to sneak out alone, without a guard or someone to take care of her, and I didn't want her to go alone, because Dad had a lot of enemies, and I didn't want Lia to become bait for them to fulfill their demonic wishes. As thrilling as the sneak-out was, we were putting our freedom at stake-- and I didn't know what would happen if Dad found out. He was going to snatch our freedom away or marry us to someone for alliances. And I didn't want either of them.
