Samuel
I get out of the car, a guard tailing behind me. I spotted Sara waiting for me outside her new cafe. My baby princess squealed with delight as I approached her. Her pretty face twisted with a big smile as she rushed to me, standing on her tiptoes to kiss my cheek.
"Finally!" she exclaimed as she grabbed my arms with delight, dragging me to the entrance of her new establishment. I couldn't help but smile at the excitement she had to have me here for the first time.
" I am so glad you came! " She squealed her excitement.
Though she was the baby of the family, my baby sister is the most ambitious person I have ever known.
Smart. Cheerful. Lively.
She was twenty-two this year and was successful in starting her own business and living her dream at a young age while managing her studies at the same time. I intended to help her establish branches around Ibiza if this one ran successfully.
"I am so sorry about my absence on the opening day. I wanted to accompany you on your big day but couldn't." I murmured apologetically, and she gave me a small smile of reassurance and understanding. The earlier mission of rescue had taken up more time than I had anticipated, and I couldn't attend the first-ever accomplishment of my baby sister.
She knew about the work I did, even though she was not related to the darkness I faced every day. After the death of my parents, I made sure she would never experience the darkness as the men in the family did.
She was too innocent to be exposed to those things, and I made sure she never would.
" I understand, " she gave me a small smile before hesitantly asking, "Did... it go well? "
" It did, " I smiled back, a smile that assured her that the innocents were rescued and the monsters were slaughtered.
Carlos, the man I had assigned for Sarah's safety, stood at the entrance, his stance alert, his gaze steady on the surroundings. He nodded in respect when our eyes met, which I returned with a pat on his shoulders, walking to the entrance. The entrance is quite simple with white walls, glass windows, and artificial plants decorating the porch. The name is written quite elegantly at the top.
Expresso express.
"The name is pretty cool, " I commented, taking in our surroundings, even as my eyes searched for any indication of danger. I know I was being unreasonable. This was my city. My power and authority lurked in every street. Everyone here knew who I was, and it was safe to say that no one would try to play some stupid tricks in my city to harm me. But there was this threat of unseen danger everywhere we went.
"It was Seb's idea". She said, smiling up at me.
"And I thought Sebastian had no brain, " I joked and a laugh bubbled up her throat.
I'm not entirely wrong. Seb works with his fists more than his brain. That had always got him in trouble which I had to clean up in the end. He didn't know the meaning of the words, 'calmness' and 'logically driven decision'. His ass did what he wanted to. He got high in the screams of his enemies, and the torture sessions he held were a kink to the madness of wanting his enemy's blood.
Had he been anyone, I would have let his ass lurk anywhere near my innocent baby sister, but I knew better. He loved her the same way I did and knew he followed the rule to keep his work separate from home.
" I am truly afraid to ask you this, but... are the items on the menu taste the same as your cooking? " I joked again, to which she gave me a playful glare, scolding, " Brother! " Sarah's cooking was as bad as Seb's calmness.
" I have hired people to cook and bake. " She added, mouthing to Carlos with a narrowed expression, ' No chaos. '
" We will see about that, " he muttered.
" Did something happen? " I asked, taking in the weird expression on Sarah's face and the dutiful stance of her bodyguard.
She huffed an annoyed sigh as she muttered, " he broke a man's arms for talking to me with a.... uhm... not-so-loud voice."
" That's good, " I said under my breath, to which Carlos grinned and my sister's mouth fell open.
The door opened with a chime and we entered, the sweet smell of something baking in the kitchen and the heavenly smell of roasted coffee beans hitting my nose. Sarah walked me to a window seat in the corner and asked " What would you like to have? ".
" An expresso, as the name suggests. "
She grinned down at me, nodding, and walked away behind the counter that led to the kitchen.
A few minutes later, I abandoned my chair and walked around to scan the cafe. The walls are painted in various shades of brown and white, artificial vegetation on every nook and corner, and tables around the cash counter. Every table is occupied except for one in the right corner.
No.
It's occupied too.
A laptop screen is open on the table, and a black backpack, a wrapped chocolate bar, and a latte cup lying on either side of the laptop. The display glows with a half-filled code screen.
The person is a hacker.
I scanned the room for any signs of the owner of the things lying on the table. Nada. Pushing my hands into my trousers pants, I took in the empty table again. The place was filled with the noisy buzz of the people chatting and surrounded by the relaxing aroma of coffee. Some were here with friends and some were alone working on their laptops. Students wrote down on books and some were reading.
I heard a door opening and closing with a soft thud, the sound weirdly making me aware of it, my insides alert. My eyes gazed at her for the first time. All of a sudden, time slowed.
There slowly walked a woman with chocolate-colored, dark hair flowing around her beautiful face, looking too fragile and breakable. She wore black baggy pants and a simple brown t-shirt, her short curtain bands falling around her round face. Her face glowed like a moon in the soft light above her head, with a pair of lush pink lips that looked so kissable and a button nose so cute I wanted to peck it again and again. A cascade of afternoon sunlight played in her hair, making it shimmer some nodes of gold with her dark strands. Her eyes, the shade same as her hair, so dark and attractive, as though holding secrets of the galaxies, were focused down at hand as she wiped the remaining wetness from a tissue. No inch of makeup was there on her face, and her skin glowed like the whites of the moon as she licked her lips. I licked my own lips absentmindedly, taking in the beauty that she was as my heart rose. My nape prickled with anticipation to feel her gaze on me, my throat drying as my fists clenched in my pockets to stop myself from going to her. To take her hand and kiss those knuckles. To bury my palms in her hair, feel them against me, and see if they were as soft and silky as they appeared and pull her to join our foreheads. To take her mouth in mine, press myself gently against her petite frame, and feel the scent and warmth of her body against me. To look into those dark eyes...
Fuck.
There was something odd in her eyes. They looked so dark as the black of the night and almost lifeless.
A mask of indifference covered her features. She looked like a walking angel, like the angel of death and darkness, her soul filled with the same blackness I felt was filled in me.
She almost exited the hallway that connected the tables and the bathroom when I realized I was gaping at her. I felt my heart speed up at an unnatural pace. I felt my insides coated with a sense of possession as they melted for the woman in front of me.
And then, the most fascinating thing happened.
Our gazes collided.
Blood rushed south to my c**k, straining the zipper of my pants as I watched her watch me. Her eyes flared, the dark eyes colliding with my blue ones as I felt her gaze tug at my heart. My nails dug into the felt of my palms in my pockets as I felt myself still from her gaze on me the first time.
Her gaze lowered down to the dustbin to toss the tissue as they looked up again at me. I was faintly aware of my creepy staring at her when a goofy-looking dude pinned her to the wall of the hallway, the wall hiding them from the rest of the people in the room but me. My instincts kicked in to slay that dude's throat for touching what was mine as his one hand rested beside her head, the other groping her ass. "Why wouldn't you date me? " I heard him say to her with a grim expression on his face.
I took a step forward to protect her but stopped in my tracks when her eyes darkened.
She narrowed her gaze at the guy, and made a practiced defensive move, elbowing his face. He groaned, his face sideways as she pulled out a small blade from her jean's back pockets with the speed of light and pointed it aggressively to his neck in warning, her face a fearless mask.
My c**k hardened from the simple action, surprise flickering in me that a woman as petite as her could manage to take down a man double her size.
" I told you to stop following me, " She gritted out. My heart fluttered from hearing her honey voice for the first time, Pause, " Touch me again without my consent and I will feed your f*****g heart to crows, " was all she said as she slashed his palm which had held her ass before, her eyes holding his, and a hiss escapes his lips.
" Next time you try, this knife will go into your f*****g eyeballs. " The threat lingered in the air, quiet and strong, heat shooting straight to my d**k.
She glared at him one last time before releasing him as she walked toward me, throwing the blade in the dustbin on her way. Her face is an emotionless mask again, as she walked to me like the angel from hell.
For a second, I almost thought that she was walking toward me. But the thought shattered as soon as it arrived.
She walked past me, not even sparing me a glance at me, who stood captivated by her presence.
Being ignored by someone was never so disturbing.
I turn to see her take a seat so casually as if someone didn't secretly try to invade her, as if she didn't almost shove a blade into someone's neck, as if she didn't cut someone's palm without batting an eye.
Fu*k.
She is so impressive.
Could anyone ever see someone and decide that they were hers?
Because I did. The moment I laid my eyes on her she became mine, now that I just witnessed her darkness, now that I just got a taste of her presence. I was so attracted to her the moment my eyes fell on her that trying to not shift my gaze to her small frame was so difficult. I stared at her back as her fingers flung over the keyboard as though she was playing piano, writing the codes again.
The most stunning element about her was the darkness that clung to her, which gave me a shiver down my spine.
Her darkness called to mine. It begged me to make her mine.
And I was going to do it exactly.
I was going to make her mine in every way possible.
Body, heart, mind, and soul.
All of her secrets will be mine to know, fantasies mine to meet, her desires mine to fulfill, her concerns mine to solve, her fears mine to destroy.
I am going to be the light in her darkness.
She is going to be mine.
I moved to my seat, from where she was directly visible to me. I took out my mobile and clicked a photo of hers and sent it to Ben.
Me: Send me every single detail about her within the next hour.
Ben: Do you like her?
The message came instantly.
Me: f*****g do what I say.
Ben: The predator has finally found his prey.
I ignored the message and focused back on my dark angel. I didn't know for how long I sat there, watching her until I received a text from Sebastian about the meeting I was supposed to attend.
Fuuk, I have to leave.
I typed a quick text to Sarah that I was leaving, stood from my seat, my expresso forgotten, gazed at her one last time, and exited the cafe.
We are going to meet again, my dark angel.
