Selene’s POV The air was thick with tension as we rode into the heart of the Black Moon Wolf Pack’s territory. I couldn’t help but feel the countless eyes on me—curious, suspicious, and judgmental. The pack’s territory was vast, stretching across rolling hills and dense forests, with buildings that blended old-world stone with modern structures. It was both impressive and intimidating. As Derek led me inside the main house, I caught a glimpse of the pack members. Everything my pack no longer was. My heart pounded in my chest, my palms clammy with nerves. I had to keep up the act. I had to make them believe I belonged here, or me lying and trying to stay alive—everything I had survived—would be for nothing. My parents death might be for nothing. The house itself was cold, both in temperature and atmosphere. Stone walls and dim lighting gave it an almost eerie feel, as if the very walls held secrets. I was ushered to a room at the far end of the hall, a small, sparsely furnished space with a single bed, a wooden dresser, and a window overlooking the forest. It wasn’t what I had expected for a Luna—if that was even what I still was. Derek had been distant ever since we arrived. He’d barely spoken to me, and when he did, his words were clipped, his tone detached. I could feel the frost in every glance, every move he made to avoid me. It stung more than I wanted to admit as I was technically still his supposed bride. I stood by the window, watching the trees sway in the breeze, my thoughts racing. I had lied to him and now, I was trapped in this deception, living a life that wasn’t mine. But I had no choice. If I didn’t play the part, I would be sent away—or worse. I clenched my fists, the memory of my parents’ deaths burning behind my eyes. Kieran had taken everything from me. He’d betrayed me, killed my father, my mother and shattered my world. If I was going to survive, if I was going to get my revenge, I needed power. And the only way to get that power was to become Luna. But Derek... it didn’t seem like he was going to make it easy. I sighed, sinking onto the edge of the bed, my fingers digging into the rough fabric of the blanket. I had tried to be what he wanted. I had tried to please him, to convince the elders that I could be the Luna this pack needed. But nothing I did seemed to matter. Derek barely acknowledged my existence, and when he did, it was with a coldness that left me feeling like I was invisible. I stared down at my hands, the faint tremble in my fingers betraying the fear I was trying so hard to suppress. The door creaked open, and I looked up to see one of the elders—an older man with graying hair and sharp eyes—standing in the doorway. He didn’t bother to hide the disdain on his face as he stepped into the room. “Alpha Derek has made his decision,” he said, his voice cold and formal. “The wedding is canceled.” The words hit me like a blow to the chest, knocking the air from my lungs. “What?” My voice cracked, betraying the panic rising in my throat. The elder’s eyes narrowed, as if he were speaking to a child who had disappointed him. “You have no wolf. You cannot be Luna. Alpha Derek has no need for a bride who cannot serve the pack.” I stood up, my legs shaky beneath me, but I forced myself to hold my ground. “But—there must be a mistake. I can still—” “You will be sent away,” he interrupted, his tone leaving no room for argument. “It has already been decided.” Sent away. I felt the blood drain from my face, my heart hammering in my chest. If they sent me away, I would be defenseless. Kieran would find me. He would kill me. “No,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “Please. I—I can help the pack. I can still be useful—” The elder scoffed, turning on his heel. “You will leave tomorrow. Make your preparations.” The door slammed shut behind him, leaving me alone in the cold, empty room. The walls seemed to close in around me, the weight of everything crashing down all at once. My knees buckled, and I sank to the floor, my hands trembling as I pressed them to my face. He was sending me away.. They all saw me as nothing—just like Kieran had. Tears burned behind my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I had to be strong. I had to find a way out of this. But how? How could I possibly survive without the pack’s protection? Without the power I so desperately needed? As I sat there, the panic slowly giving way to exhaustion, I felt my eyes grow heavy. The weight of the day—the terror, the grief, the lies—was too much to bear. Sleep dragged me down into its depths, pulling me away from the waking nightmare that was my life. In the darkness of my mind, the memories returned with brutal clarity—Kieran’s betrayal, my father’s blood staining the floor, my mother’s screams as she was taken from me. I saw it all again, felt the cold steel of helplessness and terror slice through me like a knife. “No!” I cried out, thrashing in the bed, my heart racing as the nightmare consumed me. “Stop! Please!” I could feel it—the despair, the overwhelming grief suffocating me, pulling me under. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t move. I was drowning in the memories, in the fear. “Kieran…”I cried out.
