John Regan's Vengeance

1. The Beginning

Atticus Regan had successfully acquired a new job in one of the prestigious companies in his city, Amberville. He would be appointed as the head auditor of Riverstar Bank, one of the biggest banks in Datrington. He could not wait to share the good news with his wife and only son, he drove safely to his house. On getting home, he discovered his wife's car was not parked in front of their house, very unusual on a Saturday morning. His wife Harley Regan is one of the most popular models in the country, she had dedicated every Saturday to her family. So when her husband Atticus Regan didn't see her car parked in front of the house, he became worried. He quickly parked his car and started heading inside the house so he would call her to know her whereabouts. A heavy wind was blowing, it was falling the containers of dirt of each house one after the other and it started to scatter the dirt up and down. It will be a lot of stress for the cleaning department of the state after the upcoming rain finally falls.

"Honey, am home, Is anyone home," Atticus Regan asked. Instead, the house was very neat and tidy, it was like his wife had gone out immediately after he left for the interview at Riverstar Bank.

He drew his phone out of his pocket and started to dial his wife's number, at first it was not reachable because of the rain that was about to fall. Anytime rain falls phone's network is usually bad. He kept on trying it, on his third trial, the phone started ringing. He was hearing his wife's ringtone from on top of their four-seater chair. Atticus Regan was even more worried than ever before because his wife never forgets her phone when going out. He just remembered his child, he went upstairs to check if the boy was still sleeping since there's school today.

After checking his son's room, he also was nowhere to be found.

"John!, John!!, stop playing with me, come out of your hiding, I have good news, where have your mum gone," said Atticus Regan.

He waited another three minutes when he didn't hear anything from them and it looked like no one was at home. He opted in to call 911 and report the current situation before trying to call her manager. Meanwhile, Harley Regan and her son John Regan were currently hiding in the basement, when they heard the voice of the 911 from Atticus' phone, they gently came out. Harley then went behind Atticus and covered his eyes, at first he was shocked but when he felt her soft hands and also his son hugging him from below he was relieved.

"Did you know how worried I was, I would have been fined for false alarm if I didn't cut the call on time" said Atticus Regan.

Harley Regan was just laughing at her husband because his face had changed he was very worried about her and his son.

"Daddy, you said you have good news for us, come let's sit down, I want to hear the good news," said John Regan.

Atticus Regan then held his wife in her waist with his right hand and held his son's hand with his left hand, they all went to seat on their four-seaters chair.

"For what you both did, you will have to guess what the good news is," said Atticus Regan.

"Ah ah, you didn't even tell us where you were going to before you left the house this morning, all you said was we should pray for you and we did, how do expect us to guess," said Harley Regan.

"Let me guess, you earned a huge amount of money from one of your investments," said John Regan.

"You are very close my son but it is not about any of my investments, let me just let the cat out of the bag because your mom is not ready to guess," said Atticus Regan.

"Before I forget, honey!, What happened to your car, it is not parked outside," he asked.

"It developed a fault yesterday so I know our mechanic to come and pick it up this morning, all am interested in now is the good news you have for us," said Harley Regan.

"The good news is that I have gotten a new job, from Monday I will be working as an auditor at the headquarters of Riverstar Bank" Atticus Regan revealed to his family.

Harley and John Regan immediately started to congratulate and celebrate their father and husband. Harley Regan already is part of the customers of Riverstar Bank, they are a top-notch organization. This is a financial breakthrough for Regan's family. While they were celebrating, the rain started to fall, it was very heavy, some parts of their roof were licking so they gathered buckets at the areas so their house will not be flooded with water.

Atticus Regan has started teaching John Regan his son how to invest. He has even already invested some funds on a platform in his son's name. Currently, John Regan is just ten years and he is wealthier than some average citizen of Datrington. A few moments later, the rain completely stopped, they could hear the government cleaners lamenting how the rain scatter specks of dirt across the street as they were cleaning it. All the streets of Amberville are always very neat except moments like this when rain scatters people's dirt around the roads. Amberville is the capital of Datrington, it is the most populated state in Datrington, most companies build their headquarters in this state.

It was Sunday morning, Harley had woken up very early in the morning to prepare things for the church, they do go to church at seven o'clock in the morning and come back around after eleven. They were all prepared for church, Atticus Regan most especially wanted to thank the Lord for upgrading his life and providing a new and comfortable job. While on their way to church John Regan started a conversation with his dad.

"Daddy I don't want to go to school anymore, they are not teaching me how to become a military man," said John Regan.

"John, you are just ten years, what do you understand about being a military man, when you are of age I will take you for military training," Atticus Regan replied.

"Okay Daddy, Can you take me to the shopping mall to get some toys and snacks on our way back from church," said John Regan.

"Don't worry John, you will get all you want, I have already started enquiring about the best military training center in town" said Harley Regan.

"I hope you both would have more time for me aside weekends," said John Regan.

Harley Regan was pained with what her son said, she didn't show it. She just drew him closer in a big hug and apologized to him. She assured him that things will change very soon that he just has to be a little bit patient with her and his dad. Throughout their stay in church, Harley was still thinking about what John said. She was thinking about solutions but nothing was coming to her head, she couldn't give up her career because of him.

On their way back from Church, they stopped at a shopping mall to get some things for John as he requested. John Regan bought more gun toys than snacks, everything he bought plus the petty kinds of stuff his parents took also was a total of 8530 Ravs. Immediately they got outside the shopping mall, there was a cinema opposite them. John asked his parents if they all can watch a movie together. They agreed, they just want to do anything that will make their son very happy.

When they got to the cinema a movie just ended, another one was about to start so Atticus bought three tickets and three popcorn, they all located a seat close to each other to watch the movie. The title of the movie they were watching was the betrayal, it was not for anyone below fifteen years. John's parents lied about his age so he could watch the movie with them. The movie had started, they were all eating their popcorn as they were watching it. The movie was about two hours thirty minutes, it featured so many scary and bloody scenes. Harley and Atticus Regan were both shocked at the way their son was watching it without any feelings, they themselves couldn't watch every part of the movie but John's eyes didn't leave the screen until the movie was over.

The movie they watched was about three friends who founded a business together, they all invested their life savings for the success of the business. When the business then started booming that it was worth over one thousand percent of the money they invested in it. One of the friends became greedy, he didn't want to share the profit of the business with his other colleagues so they killed them brutally on a trip he organized. He then returned to continue the business all on his own, when the wives of his partners threatened to report him if he didn't provide their husbands, he killed them making their kids by force orphans.

"Daddy, what did you learn from the movie we watched today, I love it so much," John Regan asked his father.

"I learned that will should not trust anyone no matter the condition, all men thoughts are full of evil" Atticus Regan replied.

"What of you mom, what was your lesson from the movie," John Regan asked his mom.

"You have grown so fast John, you are no longer the small boy we knew you to be." "Well I learned that you should never be very opened to anyone, if the wives had reported to the police before going to meet him, they would have not died and he would have not gone Scot free with all his killing," said Harley Regan.

"There are a lot of lessons in the movie, well the one I feel is very important now is to never have a friend when dealing with anything financial and too much friends will surely kill, if they were just business partner and not friends they would have not followed him on the trip that he used to kill them," said John Regan.

"My boy has become very wise, your wisdom is beyond ours, we can't dispute that, John am very proud of you," said Atticus Regan.

They all held each other as they walked inside their house. It was evening already so Harley just prepared dinner for her son and husband, they ate before going to bed. Before Atticus Regan went to bed he prepared all his stuff for his new work. As early as 7 am, Atticus Regan was already at the Riverstar Bank. His resumption time was eight o'clock because he was a new worker. He would be introduced to all the existing staff before he is shown his office. Atticus was nervous, he didn't know how his first day working at Riverstar headquarters would look like.

When it was exactly eight o'clock, all the staff working in Riverstar headquarters were assembled and the general manager introduced him to them as the new head auditor. They were told to do everything he is doing in the bank with clean hands so he will not get into trouble. The head auditor that was there before is currently serving a jail term after stealing a huge amount of money and covering up for some other branch managers. Atticus was oriented thoroughly by the general manager before being handed his office. After entering his office, all his teammates came inside his office to introduce themselves to him, his work had officially begun.

"Good day sir, I am Helen, I am your secretary, my desk is right in front of your office so you can call me if you need anything with the landline," said Helen.

"Thanks, Helen, I will surely need your assistance, can you help me bring the account books of the previous auditor" Atticus replied.

Atticus' secretary is his informant, she is one of the longest-serving employees of Riverstar Bank so she knows everything about anyone in the bank. Atticus started to use her to know the bad-minded colleagues and good ones. His first day of working at the headquarters of Riverstar Bank looked good. Everyone who related to him today seemed friendly. Atticus Regan is hoping that is how the rest of his days there will be.

When he got home in the evening, he told his wife how his day went, his son was fast asleep when he arrived.
