Aunt Sapphire was so kind. She woke up early to make me breakfast before encouraging me to get outside and lay in the sun. As I stepped outside, the warm rays of the sun bathed my skin, and a soothing breeze blew across my face. I lay down on the grass, closed my eyes, and basked in the peace and quiet of the early morning. Aunt Sapphire was right, I needed this. I had been so caught up in my work lately that I had forgotten to take care of myself. As I lay there, I couldn't help but think about how lucky I was to have Aunt Sapphire in my life. She had always been there for me and had never judged me for my flaws. She was like a mother to me, and I cherished her. Suddenly, my peaceful reverie was interrupted by the sound of footsteps coming towards me. I opened my eyes to see Aunt Sapphire standing there, looking down at me with a smile on her face. "I thought you might like a little company," she said, sitting down beside me. "Thanks, Aunt Sapphire," I said, smiling at her. "You know, waking up this morning, I actually feel hopeful? Like it doesn't matter what happens, I will love this baby." "I know you will, dear. That's a sign that you're becoming a mother. The shift inside you is happening and you will feel more and more attentive to its needs. Speaking of, we need to go search for the herbs for the protective spell." I nodded in agreement and got up, feeling a newfound sense of energy and purpose. Aunt Sapphire and I headed towards the forest, our eyes scanning the ground for the herbs we needed to complete the spell. As we walked deeper into the forest, we could hear the rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds. The air was cool and fresh, and I could feel my senses heightened. I felt alive. Suddenly, we stumbled upon a group of fairies, their delicate wings fluttering as they danced around a tree. They didn't seem to have noticed us yet, so Aunt Sapphire motioned for me to stay still and quiet. As we watched, the fairies began to sing, their voices like tiny bells ringing in the air. It was a lullaby, a sweet melody that was so soothing that I felt my eyes closing. I didn't know how long we stood there, listening to the fairies' song, but when I opened my eyes again, the fairies were gone. Aunt Sapphire and I continued our walk, picking up the herbs we needed along the way. We talked about the spell and what it would do to protect my baby. Aunt Sapphire explained that it would create a shield around the baby, keeping it safe from any harm or negativity. After we gathered all the necessary herbs, we headed back to Aunt Sapphire's house to begin the ritual. We lit candles and incense, and Aunt Sapphire began to chant in a language I didn't understand. The air felt charged with energy, and I felt a sense of protection and love wrap around me. As she finished the chant, Aunt Sapphire placed her hand on my belly and whispered a prayer for the baby's safety. I felt tears welling up in my eyes. I was overwhelmed with gratitude and love for Aunt Sapphire, for this protective spell, and for the promise of a new life growing inside of me. As we sat there in quiet reflection, Aunt Sapphire turned to me and said, "You know, my dear, this spell is just the beginning. A mother's love and protection is the most powerful magic of all. You will always have the power to keep your baby safe, no matter what comes your way." I nodded, feeling a sense of responsibility and strength within me. Aunt Sapphire was right, I was becoming a mother, and with that came a newfound sense of purpose and determination. We sat in silence for a few more moments, the candlelight flickering around us, before Aunt Sapphire stood up and said, "It's time for tea. Oh one more thing, this spell is bound to me. Should anything happen to you, you will be protected and it will drain from my life force first. So if you're feeling in danger, please take care to run, as fast and as far as you can. I can withstand much, but I am not impenetrable." She paused, "should I die, you will be left without my protection." I felt a shiver run down my spine at her words. I knew that Aunt Sapphire was powerful, but I never realized just how much she was willing to sacrifice for me and my baby. "Thank you, Aunt Sapphire," I said, my voice choked with emotion. "It's my pleasure, dear," she replied, smiling kindly at me. "Now let's go have that tea." We made our way to the kitchen, where Aunt Sapphire brewed a pot of tea and served us each a cup. As we sipped our tea, we talked about the future and what lay ahead. Aunt Sapphire assured me that she would always be there for me and my baby, no matter what. I felt a sense of comfort and calm wash over me as we talked. Aunt Sapphire's presence was reassuring, and I knew that with her by my side, I could face anything. I loved my mom, with all my heart, but my aunt was one of a kind. She was special in a way I'd never known anyone could be. The silence was suddenly broken by a loud bang, followed by a cacophony of shouting and screaming. Through the window, I saw bright flashes of light illuminating the night sky. Panic filled me as Aunt Sapphire sprung into action. "Dear, that's it for our time together. You must go now. Run, run and don't look back, no matter what you hear. Keep running until your legs give out and then run some more. I will protect you until my last breath." "But what about you?" "Go, now dear." She managed a kind smile while pushing me to the back door just as the front burst open. I didn't have time to argue. I trusted Aunt Sapphire with my life, and I knew that she would protect me and my baby at all costs. I raced through the woods, my heart pounding with fear as I heard the sounds of angry shouts drawing ever closer. More bright flashes of light penetrated the darkness and cut through the air. I could barely breathe, but I kept going, hoping that my aunt's promises would prove true and keep me safe. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my side, and I stumbled, falling to the ground. I looked up to see a figure standing over me, a dark shadow with glowing eyes. I tried to crawl away, but it was no use. The figure was too strong. Amarin. They had found me. As it reached down to grab me, I closed my eyes and whispered a prayer to Aunt Sapphire. Suddenly, I felt a surge of energy, and the figure was thrown back, its body slamming into a tree. I opened my eyes to see Aunt Sapphire standing over me, her eyes blazing with power. She had come to my rescue once again. "Run, dear," she said, grabbing my hand and pulling me to my feet. "I can't hold them off forever." We ran as fast as we could, dodging trees and jumping over rocks. The sounds of Alpha Braden whooping and hollaring as they were pursuing us echoed through the forest, but Aunt Sapphire was always a few steps ahead, leading us to safety. Finally, we reached the edge of the forest, and Aunt Sapphire turned to me. "Go now, dear. Keep running until you reach the next town. There, you will find someone who can help you. I will distract them as long as I can." "But what about you?" I asked, tears streaming down my face. "Don't worry about me, dear. I will be alright. Just take care of yourself and the baby. That's all that matters." "Come with me, please." "I cannot dear. This is my duty. No, it is my honor. You are everything and more. Protect your son and be well. Goodbye dear Avery." She gently kissed the top of my head before pushing me and summoning a barrier to protect me as I ran. My feet pounded into the ground while my heart weighed me down, heavy with grief and fear. I could hear the sounds of battle behind me, the clashing of spells against magic littered with the screams of those who fought. I didn't dare look back, knowing that Aunt Sapphire was sacrificing everything to protect me and my baby. As I ran, I felt a sudden pain in my abdomen, and I stumbled, falling to my knees. I clutched at my belly, feeling the life inside me stir. Panic rose in my chest, and I felt tears streaming down my face. I couldn't do this alone. I needed help, someone to guide me and protect me. I closed my eyes and whispered a prayer to Aunt Sapphire, hoping that somehow, she could hear me and help me find a way, but there was no answer. Just as I was about to give up hope, excited howls filled the air. "This is it little one. We've nothing left... we were so close to making it. I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you." The world began to spin, but just before I descended into darkness, a pair of strong arms lifted me from the ground. "Mate."
