REINA'S POV “Marry me.” “Excuse me?” I scoffed as Marco slid a file in front of me. He said he wanted to talk business but I wasn't expecting him to propose some like a marriage. “You're kidding me right?” “I'm not.” He shrugged while gesturing to the file in front of me. Does that mean he already had plans for asking me to marry him before I came up here. “I need a fake bride and I find you interesting.” “You could easily get any woman you want and you want a plain server as myself? Oh please, you're just like the rest of them.” I rolled my eyes while folding my arms across my chest. “I think you need me as much as I need you, Reina. You just rejected Theodore and I don't think he'll let it end just like that. The only way I can protect you in my territory is you becoming mine.” He said, oddly calm about this entire ordeal. “I refuse. I was called up here to entertain you and not listen to whatever uncomfortable thing you have to say. Do you know what a marriage is, even if it's fake?” I said through gritted teeth. “And besides, it's not the first time they've come after me because I rejected them.” He didn't say a word and just stared at me with his cold gaze returning. The same fear I felt when I set my eyes on him in the office overcame me again but I wasn't about to let him intimidate me into a marriage of all things. “If that's all, I'll take my leave.” I said while standing to leave. “The offer is always open when you change your mind.” He said and I didn't even bother paying him any attention and just walked out of the room. I bumped into Black on my way out and he just stared at me as I walked away. Those good for nothing rich men, thinking they could get anything they wanted. The doors of the elevator closed but before it completely shut, I saw him standing at the end of the hallway while looking in my direction. Hissing in discomfort, I looked out at the bright city from the transparent walls of the elevator. There were sometimes I wished I wasn't caught up in this work where I have to meet up with these men daily. My father just like them was a wealthy man but he treated my mother however he wanted. He maltreated her and beat her up at any slight discomfort. It was what made me this strong enough to stand up against anything I was uncomfortable with. Despite being all rich, he was stingy and when he died, his lawyer said he owed millions of dollars and his entire fortune was used in paying uo his debts. Others might not have huge debts like him, but the way my father treated my mother just because he knew she couldn't leave if she wanted a good life for me, stuck with me. I prefer a humble man who can provide a simple life for me. It was all I wanted. The last thing I wanted was to get caught up in the lifestyle of a whole mafia head who doesn't even bat an eyes before killing people. “So how did it go?” My supervisor asked in eagerness as I walked into the dressing room. “I'm taking the rest of the night and tomorrow off.” I said to her, not interested in any conversation about what happened up there. “What? Tomorrow is Friday, and you know we have a lot of people who request for your service tomorrow.” She tried speaking me out of it but I just stared at her blankly. “Did something happen with boss? You can serve…” “Xyla, please. I just need a time off. I might even consider resigning depending on how I feel after tomorrow.” I replied while heading out through the staff's entrance. Thinking about my father and how these men were just after me because they wanted to use me soured my mood. I spent the whole day in my apartment finally having some me time after spending my nights serving in the Savino Luxury Club while their boss called me over to talk s**t about me getting married to him. His words still rang in my head and I wondered if it was all a lie but something in me didn't want it to be a lie either, that a man like Marco would even be interested in me to think I'll be worthy of being his fake wife. There were much prettier and wealthy girls in the city while I just entertained people with my body even though I didn't allow s*x and physical touch. The doorbell rang and my attention was drawn towards the door. Pulling the door open, I saw no one but I saw an envelope on the floor. Opening the envelope, I suddenly dropped it. Written in blood was a “You will be MINE!” I might have stalkers all the time but this was the first time this was happening to me. And to think someone would know where I was living after trying to hide that all these years. Could it be Theodore? I didn't want to think a situation where by what Marco said would end up being true. What exactly do they want from me? Maybe it was a bad idea to actually stay in the club all these years and keep on working there. Looking out of the window, it was just getting late and I had to get some things outside. Discarding everything, I walked out of my apartment and headed down the street. I soon realize that was a bad idea as I noticed a few men in black walking behind me. They kept their distance but I could tell I was the one they were tailing. Letting out a breath, I picked up my pace and tried keeping my composure as I headed into the convenience store. Walking out, I was suddenly grabbed by one of the men and reflexively, I kneed him straight in the stomach and he lost his balance. “Who sent you guys?” I asked, not in the mood to be joked with. “Let's round this up quickly.” One of them said and he finally walked forward. From his build, I could tell he was the leader of the crew. “We're in the Savino territory and not in the Lanza territory, so get her.” Lanza. I guessed right, it was Theodore. “Whatever Don Theodore wants with me, tell him I'm unable to give it to him and let's just settle this like adults.” I don't even want to have anything to do with a man who can't accept the fact that he was rejected by me already. Two of the men headed towards me to grab me but I swiftly grabbed their arms and twisted it with all my strength while kicking one of them into the other. Living in a dangerous environment, it was natural for me to have martial arts skills but it wasn't enough. They grabbed my arms and the one who was their leader lifted me off my feet, throwing me over his shoulder. “Tell the boss we got her.” “Where do you think you're taking my wife?” I heard a cold and dangerous voice that I would never forget the owner. Looking up, I could see Marco standing there with his hands in his pockets. He was leaning against Black like he was some wall with an icy look in his eyes. “Hive, get rid of them and present them to Theodore.”
