"Who is Tate?" A clueless Lucille asked.
"Oh. I forgot you... Tate is the man in that tape," Amir replied to her.
Her eyes widened in reaction.
Then, quietly, she asked, “That very?”
Chloe and Amir nodded.
Her anger flashed. “Where is that bastard now?”
“Okay, Lucille, deep breaths,” Amir said. “We are following a plan and it's a pretty solid one. I promise you, very soon everyone involved in this will not escape their punishment.”
Lucille sighed.
“Can you be patient with me?” Amir asked.
“I'll try. I guess.” Her lips scrunched. “I guess the medications are not really helping. Look at me, still getting angry.”
“It's okay to be angry, Lucille. Don't rob yourself of the reaction you're entitled to feel.”
Amir faced Chloe before Lucile could reply.
He said, “We have to meet Sebastian in an hour. Be ready by then?”
Chloe nodded, her eyes travelling towards the dining area again.
Only Kate was there.
“Do you need me to come too?” Lucille asked, pulling Chloe out of her annoying pondering.
“If you want,” Amir replied, his calmness exhibited in how he sauntered away from them.
“Will you need my help?” Lucille tried to confirm with Chloe.
“I don't think so. But Madam Lugi might.”
“She still comes here?”
Amusedly, Chloe nodded. “Who else would cook the meals?”
“It's just… she's so quiet. Too quiet.”
"Are you going to help her or not?"
Lucille snorted. "I knew you would never be a good gossip partner."
"Gossip is so lame."
"Yeah, yeah. It is good to be back though."
Chloe's brow jerked as she transferred her gaze to the artwork she couldn't complete cleaning.
"Alright. Alright.” Lucille slid away. “I get your message. I’ll leave."
"See you in an hour," Chloe replied, sending her a smile.
Moments later, to speed up her tasks, she immediately went to work.
But she had barely lifted her hand for two seconds when a force pulled her hand and gently dragged her towards God knows where.
She could tell who it was just by looking at the back of his hair which bounced as he pulled her up the stairs.
Once they reached the top, they walked a little more before stopping next to an empty corner.
“Chloe,” his voice boomed, “come. Stand in front of me.”
“No.” Her eyes stayed fixed on their joined hands. “I am fine here.”
With a sharp exhale, he dragged her closer, she had no choice but to stand before him.
While she tried to reflect the displeasure she had towards his recent attitude, his eyes watched her without a word escaping into the air.
Then, Chloe broke the silence. “How can I help you?”
"Our talk was left unfinished,” he answered.
"It was interrupted."
"That it was.” He finally let go of her hand. "We should finish our conversation."
Her lips scrunched, her eyes everywhere but on him, she said, "Actually, I think I made a mistake yesterday. I shouldn't have-"
"You can't take back those words Chloe. I heard them loud and clear and they've been my source of happiness since then.”
"I don't-" She could not even retort.
He was just so good at making her feel good by merely existing and saying nice things.
"So..." He took her hands into his. "Don't even think of taking them back. Okay?"
"I just-" She breathed hard as he leaned closer.
"Just what?"
"I don't want to be hurt."
After she uttered her response, Chloe heard how selfish the statement was.
Once everything was finally over, Nathaniel would be the most hurt.
But at that stage... with what she had already decided recently, she didn't want to back out again.
Being with him, thinking of him, being touched by him… they all felt super amazing.
So, maybe being selfish wouldn't be that much of a terrible thing, she concluded.
"Nathaniel?"
"Yeah?"
"I…"
"Oh wow.” The voice Chloe didn't desire to hear interrupted them. “This is quite an interesting sight."
"Kate," Nathaniel said and pulled his hand away from Chloe.
Before Chloe could react, his arm circled her waist and he pressed her close to his side, his heat teasing her.
“She's the maid, isn't she?” The woman definitely was disgusted by Chloe's presence. “This is quite funny, Nate.”
"What is?" he asked.
"If you were going to replace me with someone, you should have at least picked a woman with some… class,” she answered, her eyes fixed on Chloe.
Nathaniel scoffed. "Kate, when were we ever together that I would replace you?"
"Uh?" Her shock shifted her gaze to Nathaniel. “Wh-what?”
“As Gabriel's sister, you are also my sister. I wish to keep ignoring how clingy you are but if you cross the line, the next time you'll see me is when I'm dead.”
Kate's lips curled angrily.
Nathaniel didn't mind the woman. “Respect yourself, Kate. Stay in your lane. And never ever open that mouth to badmouth my woman. If you do, well, you'll find out.”
Chloe, who felt a tickle inside her because he called her his woman, watched as Kate's fury dissolved into panic.
Her lengthy lashes batting quite hard, she stuttered, “N-Nate, I just… I just want the best for you. I-I-I don't approve-”
"Since when have I ever needed your approval?” He replied. “Once again, respect yourself. We have had enough to talk about after a long while. So, steer clear of me while you are here.” Without paying one more second of attention to the shocked woman, he looked down and called, “Chloe?”
"Yes?"
"Let's go." Without letting her go, he started to walk.
"Where are we going?"
"Your room."
"Why?" she asked, her eyes narrowed.
"I need to finish what I started yesterday," he said, looking down at her mischievously, making her cheeks grow hot.
