the wrong girl

chapter 15 & 16 *Shivaay’s POV | Congo* Congo was hot, loud, and full of deals that never slept. It had been days since I last saw Cristilla. It felt like years. That was better. If I stayed away, I could keep her safe. Keep the business safe. I had already started processing the divorce papers. It was the only clean way out. But until the ink dried, distance was my best weapon. “Boss.” A guard cleared his throat at the door. I pulled myself out of my thoughts. “Any news about the enemies?” He shook his head. “Still on it, boss. But… it’s quiet. Too quiet. Our shipments are moving smoothly. No attacks. No surveillance.” I frowned. “Find them.” “Yes, boss.” He left the moment I nodded. The door closed, but the silence didn’t. Someone who attacked us once didn’t just disappear because things got easy. They were regrouping. Planning something bigger. And I would find out what it was before it reached her. --- *Lilian’s POV I was in my boss’s resort, waiting. The plan was simple: take the girl. I didn’t even know her full name yet. I would get it when my boss arrived. I set my bag down and dialed Zack. “Good morning, boss,” he answered. “Zack here.” “Any update? My boss hasn’t been at the house in days. I think he’s out of town.” “If you want to move on the girl, now’s the time,” Zack said. “She hasn’t been coming to class lately. They’re already drifting apart. What does she do for a living?” “Nothing,” I said. “Just a schoolgirl, I think. Parents have money.” “So how do we ID her for sure?” I didn’t have an answer yet. *The Next Day* The kidnapping went clean. Right after school hours. No cameras, no witnesses. We dragged her into the safehouse. She was shaking, tears cutting through the dust on her face. “Do you think lying to me will solve anything?” I said, circling her. “You married Black Shadow. That’s not for girls like you.” “I swear I don’t know who you’re talking about,” she whispered. She didn’t have the strength to shout anymore. I studied her. Something about her face was familiar. Too familiar. “Please,” she begged. “Just let me go. I don’t know you. I don’t know who you’re talking about.” Annoyance flared. I pulled out her photo and held it beside her face. It matched. Exactly. “Cristilla,” I said. “I’m asking you again—” “I’m not Cristilla,” she choked out. “I’m just a poor girl. I work. Please—” My voice died. What was happening? Did she have an identical twin she didn’t know about? “f**k,” I muttered. I signaled one of Zante’s men to cover her mouth. I pulled out my phone to call Zack. No signal. “How did you find her?” I snapped at Zante. “When you sent the class list, we tracked the girl,” he said. “I recognized her because of the mark on her neck. She’s Jasper’s girlfriend.” Jasper. The thought hit like ice. Jasper was a lawyer. He’d lusted after me once. I’d used him to get my ex out of court. If he was connected to her… this was a problem. “Give her something to make her forget this,” I ordered. Two minutes later, the drug hit her system. Her eyes rolled back and she slumped. “Drop her off,” I said. We left her on a side street, lifeless. And I was left with one question I couldn’t answer: If this wasn’t Cristilla… then where was she? ---
