Chp 3: All Fun & Games

I softly groaned when I felt someone shaking my shoulder. “Mia, you gotta wake up. The kids are almost here.” Hazel said as I recognized her voice. “Do I have time to clean up?” I asked while sitting up. “Yeah, you got time.” She said as I looked around the dimly lit room. We were all grumpy as we got up to get ready. No one avoided me, but no one gave me the time of day except Hazel, who braided my hair. Ryan finally came over to us. He touched the top bunk bed railing and leaned close to me. I squinted at him, confused about why he was staring into my eyes. “I knew it. Your eyes are brown.” His words made everyone in the room stop what they were doing to look at us. “Kind of looks like milk chocolate. Making me hungry now.” He complimented me, making me feel flushed. “Are you trying you figure out what happened last night, too?” Hazel asked as she looked around to see everyone confirm. “I was until she made me crave chocolate. Now I just want chocolate.” I looked away from him as my stomach hosted a kaleidoscope of butterfly feelings. “Aside from Ryan’s wolf hunger. Mia has no idea what happened either.” Hazel spoke for me when the Kitsune, Sora, stepped between Ryan and me to grab both my hands. I looked up at her, confused, to see her eyes shine a fire orange. “From her aura, it wasn’t her magic.” I glanced over at Hazel, a bit concerned now. “Mia, what creatures are your family’s familiars?” Sora tilted her head to the side as she asked. “Dragons.” I didn’t hesitate to answer since I was raised to be proud. She leaned in closer, squinting, but stumbled back into Ryan, afraid of me in seconds. “She a hybrid.” Hazel, Ryan, and I looked around, confused, as fear danced along everyone’s face. “Wait, when did Hybrids become a bad thing?” Ryan asked as he helped Sora stabilize. “They’re not, but there are still some deadly combinations.” A hybrid named Luci answered. “Is a Mage/Dragon hybrid a deadly combo?” Everyone but Hazel and Ryan looked shocked before slowly leaving the cabin. Their reaction alone answered my question, though. “But you’re powerless.” Hazel defended me as I sighed and headed out. “At least you know no one will mess with you, Hazel. They’re afraid of her.” Ryan said, escorting us out of the cabin. “Repeat. Powerless.” Hazel was forever my knight in shining armor. They both knew I was a hybrid, but we all believed that was why my powers never triggered. I looked at the woods once we all gathered, curious about that voice I heard. I had chosen to tell no one. Afraid people would think I was crazy. A hand landed on my head, making me turn it to face the buses rolling in. “Pay attention, little hatchling.” I looked up at the tall man who was smirking at me. “What is your name?” I asked, thoroughly intrigued by him. “Name is Ji Yong. Now focus, Hatchling. They’re coming off the buses.” He said and winked at me. I listened and gave my full attention to my group of humans that hadn’t come into their powers yet. They all looked around with nervous reactions. We went to their cabin, which, thankfully, they had all to themselves. I had them all settle in before we headed towards the benches by the water. “It’s alright. First off, no one is allowed to harm you here.” They all looked at me, as some had expressions of relief. The others still looked concerned. “My name is Mia Drakes, and I am your counselor for your time at camp.” I introduced myself as I pulled on my sorority purple and gold jacket with ADO embroidered in gold. “Wait, you’re from the Alpha Delta Omega house down south, with the infamous stepping team?” One of the kids asked as they smiled at me. “Yeah, that's my sisters.” I nodded proudly. “I’m part of the supernatural branch step team. We just won state last month.” The group finally stopped looking scared and looked at me in awe. “So why not introduce yourselves to me with your own dance moves? If not, tell me your name and favorite activity if you feel too shy.” They all took a shine to this idea, and eight out of ten showed their dance moves. The other two just told me they prefer computers and anime over dancing. “Anime and Computers are art forms, too, so I am glad to see my group being so talented in the Arts,” I said with a warm smile, glad they were finally feeling comfortable. I was about to have them tell me what part of the supernatural world they came from when a fireball flew past us. Gratefully, it missed me and my group by a millimeter. “Dang, I missed the counselor.” I turned to see a smug teen standing next to Zane and Amelia. Behind them was the rest of the group that seemed to want nothing to do with whatever their counselors were attempting to do. Zane patted the teen on the head before it registered that he was Zane’s kid brother, Connor. “It’s all good. By the end of the camp, you will have put her out of her misery.” Zane looked up at me with a nasty smile. “You want to put me out of my misery? Then just tell your w***e of a woman to take the air out of my lungs. It’ll be faster.” The smile on his face faded as Amelia just looked at me with disgust. “I honestly don’t give a f**k what you do to me anymore. Just don’t bring the kids down to your level.” I went to turn my back to them when a gust of wind took hold of me. It felt like a hand. I was wrapped around my throat as the wind lifted me off the ground. I could feel my lungs seize as they struggled to grasp for air. I briefly felt that wave of power come over me before I fell from mid-air and into Hazel’s arms. I coughed for air as I noticed Ryan had slugged Amelia in the face. “Now that was sexy, Ryan,” Hazel stated while setting me down on my feet. Zane growled as he used his magic to force Ryan to submit to him. “What is going on here!” Right as Zane was getting ready to punch Ryan, the head counselor, O'Neill, came over with her team. “Just some miscommunication,” Amelia said, trying to cover up their actions. “Really? Were lying now?” O’Neill said as she crossed her arms. “I was warned about you, Zane, and Amelia.” They looked at each other before at Ryan, Hazel, and me. “Connor, if you keep up this behavior with your brother and his boo thang. I will have all three of you removed from the camp.” She shooed the mages away as Ryan came over to check on me. “You’re not hurt, right?” I just smiled at him as he checked my neck for bruising. “I’m good, Ryan. Thank you both for helping me protect my kids.” I turned to smile at them. Even mentally, I thanked Zane, Connor, and Amelia for helping me prove to my kids that I would protect them with my life. “See, I told you no one will harm you,” I said as I addressed the kids. One of them ran over to hug me before the rest came. I couldn’t help but chuckle at the love I was getting from them. “Um, excuse me?” We all turned to see a few kids from the Mages group. They kept looking around, scared, as if it was wrong to be over there. “We are sorry for how our counselors treated you. Our parents raised us better than that.” One of them apologized for the incident. I broke free from my group to give the mage teenagers hugs. It was refreshing to see some Mages were decent people. “Ignore their ignorance and learn as much as possible. They may be assholes, but they are talented in magic. Find a way to learn from that.” They all nodded their heads before running away. “Look at the Hatchling being so popular.” I did not hold back my giggle at Ji-Yong's nickname for me. He came over with his group of dragons, imps, and a few hybrids. “This person, children, is a beautiful Dragon/Mage hybrid that hasn’t found the need to show us her true powers.” He waved his hand towards me before smirking in my direction. “Don’t let anyone tell you that Counselor Mia is just a harmless human. She just badass with class.” Ji-Yong's description of me had Hazel and me laughing. I managed to stop, though, to smile warmly at Ji-Yong. “Yet you keep calling me hatchling.” I pointed out, earning a soft chuckle from him. “That’s because you are one. Until you show me, you are more Dragon or more Mage. Then you are just simply a hatchling.” He then came over to me and kissed the top of my head. I heard the kids cooing over his actions. Yet, instead of feeling embarrassed, I felt safe and home. “I swear I will always love Dragons,” I whispered as Ji-Yong pulled away. “Good, 'cause we love you.” He replied lowly before winking and going back to his kids. Hazel, Ryan, and I just had all the Humans, Vampires, Night Imps, Felines, and Canine teenagers spend time getting to know one another for the rest of the days. We let all the kids have downtime once it was lights out for the Day teenagers. Since some of them were jet lagged or just from a different time zone. We wanted them to have time to adjust to the camp’s schedule. After washing up, I returned to the trunk under my bed when Hazel hopped over to me. “So… Head Counselor O'Neill wants us to gather in the cafeteria. She thinks bullying would stop if we all get to know each other better.” Hazel and I laughed at the statement since we knew it was bull s**t. “Does everyone have to go?” She pretended to think as she started braiding my damp hair. “You know I honestly don’t want to, nor have you go, but we have to.” I sighed along with her before we headed to the cafeteria. We saw some seats were making a circle. Counselor O’Neill was already seated as we were all spilling in. Amelia and Zane sat together across from her. Ryan groaned as he sat down next to Zane. Our Fae counselor, Quinn, with amazing braided green hair, sat beside Amelia. His lovely ocean-blue eyes looked clouded as if he was being tortured. “Quinn is actually Amelia’s familiar, and apparently, Amelia is abusing him,” Sora whispered to us before she sat next to Quinn and patted his shoulder. We all moved to take our seats. Hazel sat next to Ryan to give him a sense of comfort as I sat next to her. Someone came up behind me and kissed my head before sitting beside me. I almost jumped before realizing it was Ji-Yong. He just winked at me, earning a massive smile from me. Once we were all settled in, the Head Counselor stood up and clapped her hands. “It’s nice to see that most of you have already met, but this gathering is to complete that. It is for the best that we have you all know each other. This way, we do a better job of being counselors for the youth we are trying to guide through our messed up world.” Head Counselor O’Neill wasn’t wrong. We needed to help guide and protect the campers. “So, how about we start from the left? Tell us your name, what your supernatural tides and your talents are.” She turned to Jaya, the counselor helping the Imps and floating between Hazel and Ji-Yong groups. Jaya stood up when O’Neill gave her the floor to kick-start us off. Jaya was a beautiful olive-tan girl with long, wavy black hair with red highlights that shimmered with her reddish-brown eyes. “Namaste, the name is Jaya, and I’m a Scorpion Imp.” She smirked deviously before making fire with her hand. “I’ve been blessed with the element of Fire and have yet to find my Mage.” I noticed a few people winched when the Mages curse was mentioned. It was so unfair that every supernatural being had to be tied to a Mage, or they would have a short life span and slowly become weak until only human. Jaya sat down and allowed Felix to go next. He stood up, looking grumpy, before being bothered to introduce himself. “Salve, call me Felix. I’m a Demon with elements of fire as well. Thank you.” He sat back down and rubbed his tan fingers through his short, multi-blue color hair as he closed his dark brown eyes. Not surprised he was annoyed. I didn’t want to do this either. Luci jumped up, smiling from ear to ear. She was too excited to introduce herself. She was a curly redhead like our head counselor but had it tied back in a bun. “Halo ya’ll, I’m Luci, a proud hell-hound hybrid. I haven’t discovered my magic yet, but excited to learn with my group and help Felix.” She smiled at Felix beside her with her golden hazel-green eyes. We saw a slight smirk appear before he looked away. After Luci sat back down, Sora stood up. Her black hair was pulled back in a high ponytail, revealing more fair skin. She made her eyes glow orange-red before bowing. “Swasdi, I’m Sora, and my family are Kitsunes. We all have a different element. Mine just so happens to be Electricity. She made the lights flicker before offering a hand to Quinn. I caught Amelia's glare, resulting in Quinn smacking Sora's hand away. Sora just pouted before sitting back down. I could see her heart breaking in her eyes. Quinn stood up for his turn to speak. He looked as if he was on autopilot. “Quinn, I’m a Fae, Amelia Familiar, and that is all.” He sat back down and looked down at the floor. Hazel and I looked at each other with concern before giving Amelia attention. She stood up and flipped her pasty pink hair over her shoulder as Zane stood beside her. “Hi everyone, I am Amelia, and this is my fiancée, Zane. We are the Mages of this camp. Don’t let the human counselor lead you to believe they’re one of us.” She pointed it out as she gave me a smug look. I just rubbed the bridge of my nose and groaned softly. “Nah, Mia is better than you two. She a Dragon/Mage that you shouldn’t mess with.” Ji-Yong pointed out, making everyone look my way. I looked up to see everyone staring at me. “Ha, nice joke, Ji-Yong. She a lowly human with no powers.” Amelia laughed off Ji-Yong's statement. “Oh, I can prove it to you all. Mia actually does have access to her powers. She has a magic spell blocking it.” Amelia and Zane looked annoyed, but I gave my attention to Ji-Yong. “How so?” My interest was peak as he smirked at me. “I believe it's already happening.” He said before using his phone to show me my eyes were glowing on it. “That is all you. You have a familiar somewhere that is being blocked from you. That is why you can’t tap into your powers.” He said as I looked over at Hazel and Ryan. “H…el…p me…” I looked back at the dark forest through the window. “I… want… out…” The voice was weak, but I could still hear the sweet melody. Who was this calling out to me?
