Chp 4: Hidden Power

1823 Words
“Stop lying!” Amelia yelled at me. “You’re the one doing that, Ji-Yong. I suggest you stop since she will never come into her powers. It’s pointless being familiar with a mere mortal.” Amelia growled as she stepped forward. I noticed Quin flinch behind her as if she was coming at him instead of me. “I’ll help you… you help me.” The sweet voice sounded off again in the back of my mind. I stood up to Amelia and crossed my arms. “Why are you so insecure?” I said as I looked at Zane as well. “You both really think you’re all mighty and can get away with murder.” I glanced over at the head counselor. “And before you call us out on fighting. These two have been bullying me since we were kids.” O’Neill sighed as she shook her head. “Shut your mouth, you piece of shit.” Zane spat as he came closer to me. I looked at Ryan and saw a glowing green link tying him to Zane. “How about I show you how truly powerless you are,” I smirked at Zane and grabbed the luminous green thread between him and Ryan. They both stiffened, but Ryan looked startled as Zane looked angry. Everyone was looking at my hand, holding the magical cord connecting them. I snapped the line between my fingers and watched it turn into magic dust that faded away. They both gasped for air, but Zane dropped onto one knee in pain. I looked up at Quinn before me and saw hope dancing in his eyes. “She really is abusing you, Isn’t She?” My words had everyone’s attention, especially Quinn and Amelia. ‘Do it again… set them free…’ The smooth voice granting me access to my powers spoke in my mind. “How dare you accuse me of harming my familiar.” Amelia screeched before moving to slap me. I just caught her wrist and twisted her arm. She cried out in pain as I looked at her. I felt powerful but could feel someone else’s presence taking over. “Sorry, sweetheart. I can’t afford you harming her.” My voice dropped about two octaves as the other presence spoke. I then grabbed the glowing white thread and broke it, which allowed Quinn to be free from the bond. Amelia collapsed onto the ground in pain. I let go of her wrist and looked around at everyone. Sora ran over and tackle-hugged Quinn, crying. Quinn stared at me in shock that he was free from his oppressor. ‘Now… set me… free…’ The sweet melody begged before a strong embrace grabbed me, disconnecting me from what was unlocking my magic. “Thank you! Oh f*****g, thank you! I love you so much, Mia.” Ryan held me and nuzzled his head into the nape of my neck. I just giggled and patted his head. “I told you Mia was the better Mage,” Ji-Yong said as she came over to me. “I have a feeling. You’re going to be the Mage that breaks this curse.” I looked around and even saw the head counselors looking hopeful. “Let go of her already damn pup.” I was still processing what I had done, that I didn’t notice Hazel trying to free me from Ryan. “No! She is going to be my new Mage. I don’t care. Curse or not, I’m choosing her every damn time.” Ryan cried, trying to hold on longer. “No! She mine, I’m her bestie, I get dibs.” Hazel argued as she pulled. “Can I be your Familiar?” I looked up to see Sora and Quinn looking up at me. “Sorry to all of you, but she already connected to a Dragon,” Ji-Yong said while smirking. “Not you, though, right?” Hazel said with a pout, as she hoped it wasn’t him. Soon, a wave washed over me, and my head started feeling numb. “Hey, Ryan.” He looked at me as the tingling, numbing feeling got more robust. “Don’t let go, please.” He seemed confused until I became limp, and the room went black. ~x~x~X~x~X~x~x~ I woke up to bright lights above me and groaned. I knew right away I was in the infirmary. I blinked a bit before looking around to see the clock on the wall. If I was reading it correctly, I only had two hours to wash up and get to my group. “Let me at her! I will make her wish she was never born!” I heard Amelia screech somewhere in the room. “How dare she steal my familiar!” Zane was in here as well. “This is a place of healing, not attempted murder. Now return to your cabins and get ready to tend to your assigned groups.” I heard someone say as they shoved the people, giving me a headache. I slowly sat up and brushed my hair back with my fingers. “Oh, look who’s up.” Said someone with a bitter tone. I looked up to see the Nurse, who was reading my chart. “If you are feeling better, the door behind me. Don’t care if you let it hit you.” I just shook my head at her terrible bedside managers. “Do you have anything for a headache? If not, I will go since I’m such a bother.” I returned her tone, earning her attention. “Don’t dare be disrespectful, you little brat. You’re the one causing trouble on the campground. I don’t even know how you learn the ability to break bonds, but I suggest you don’t. Unless you want to deal with the magic council, you damn muggle.” She snarled with a British accent. I just glared up at her as I realized she was a Mage. “Bring on the council then. Maybe they’ll save you from my wrath.” I tried tapping into whatever power I hoped I had unlocked. Luckily, it worked because I could see my eyes glowing in the Nurse’s eyes. The Nurse had become concerned as she stepped back before storming away from my bed. I just got up and headed to my cabin. Everyone was asleep, so it made getting ready easy. I avoided the Mages like the pledge they were and went to tend to my group. I hadn’t heard the voice for an entire week, and I kept the mage group at bay. That was until I was summoned to the head counselor’s office. Amelia, Zane, Dean Rizzo, and Head Counselor O’Neill stood around O’Neill’s desk. I looked at the desk to see my grandmother, Scarlett Drakes, Witch Chair Holder of Supreme Council, sitting at the desk. Her arms crossed as she glared at me with icy dark ground eyes. “Hello there, child. So glad you could grace us with your presence.” Grandma Scarlett was my mother’s mom and never liked me. She wasn’t afraid to tell my mom she should never have given birth to me in front of my face. “I hear you are causing trouble here at camp.” She stood up and strutted over to me. She gripped the bottom of my jar to make me look her in the eyes and nowhere else. “You, child, are the blemish on our family name. What is this? I hear you came into your powers?” Her hand slipped from my jaw to around my neck and squeezed. “If you have powers, then use them to save your life. If not, I will have to tell my daughter I did what she should have done when you were born.” Grandma snarled as she began to squeeze. I saw Amelia and Zane smirking viciously, Rizzo looking like he wished he was choking me, and O’Neill’s torn expression on whether she should stop this. I grabbed her wrist, fighting for air as my vision blurred. My own flesh and blood was taking sick pleasure in seeing my life slip away. Just when I thought I was a goner, I felt a rush of warmth run over my body. My vision was clear, and I pulled Grandma's hand away from my neck. She looked stunned as I tilted my head to the side. “And you’re supposed to be her grandmother?” The warm presence was talking through me. They had me shove my grandmother away from me and into the desk. “You’re trash, just like those two mages. I can’t afford to have her harmed any further. So how about a game of high and seek.” My body turned around and ran into the forest until the warmth presence left my body. ‘Help me.’ It said before it left. I looked around only to find I was lost in a forest in Maine. I groaned as I realized I was the one hiding. A warm gust of wind brushed past me, making me look in the direction it came from. I could hear a faint grumble, but it felt like it was calling me for some reason. I walked in its direction as I pulled out my phone to use the flashlight. It was getting dark, so the phone’s flashlight was a need. The closer I got, the more the temperature dropped until I found a cave. The cold air was coming from the entrance, making me shiver. I texted Hazel, freaking out about walking into the cave, and just like my knight in shining honor, she was by my side. She used her vampiric ability to find me and come to my rescue after I texted her. “I f*****g love you. You know that, right?” I said, smiling at her. Hazel hugged me and petted my head. “Love you too. You going to tell me what's going on?” I looked at the cave and then back at her. “Something is calling me in this cave.” Hazel looked at the cave and then around us. “Well, you must walk in before the hunting party arrives.” She said, making me worry a bit. “Hunting party?” She pouted at me as she looked around. “Your grandmother is looking for you. She not happy with whatever you did.” I sighed heavily as I looked at the cave. “Then this is safer than that b***h. She’s my family, and she tried to choke me.” Hazel growled at hearing my grandma assaulted me. “Well, you better get going in.” Hazel pushed me lightly, encouraging me to explore. I took a deep breath and entered the cave, only for the floor to collapse underneath me. Leaving me to fall into the darkness.
