Hazel and I looked at each other before looking at the six chairpersons of the Supernatural Supreme Council, or as we call it, SSC. The chairpersons for Hybrids, Alpha of Alphas, and Heavenly remained sitting as chairpersons of Witches, Dragons, and Nocturnals were standing. None of them looked pleased to be seeing any of us, except for my grandmother. That woman was possibly plotting how to have me killed.
“You were both brought here to defend yourself for your crimes.” My grandmother spoke as she addressed the group. “Oliver the fourth Jasper, you are being accused of aiding and bedding the criminal beside you.” Hazel winced at the mention of his dead name. Another thing that makes me dislike this woman is her homophonic nature.
“Mia Drakes, you are being accused of breaking familiar bonds, assaulting a council member, running away from the knights, and releasing a 2000-year-old prisoner from his eternal frozen prison.” She said with a sinister smirk. I just c****d an eyebrow at her, wondering when I assaulted her. If memory served me right, she attacked me, making my actions self-defense.
“If I may, I’m technically categorized as human in the council's eyes. So I refuse to accept having only the mages and dragon council chairs being my judge, jury, and executioner.”
My grandmother growled and looked ready to kill for my insolence. Magnus, a white-haired man, was smirking this time and stood up. “Do not worry, child. Mage is the only person accusing you of any crime other than the prisoner release. I do not acknowledge the assault charges, running from the knights, or even the familiar bond breaking.” He turned to look at Anacalagon Wang, also known as Andi. “What about you, sir.” Andi looked up at Margus with his dark crimson-brown eyes. “I believe the charges of assault should be dropped as well. The rest should stand.” Andi said while running his tan fingers through his long hair.
I swear I could hear Grandma growling under her breath, but no one else noticed. We locked eyes, and I felt my entire being warm up. “You claim human, but your eyes glow electric blue, and that tattoo on your arm seems to have scales.” The Alphas of Alphas, Akira pointed out to everyone. “That dragon you all inform was a criminal of 2000 years ago, just so happens to be my familiar. What you see if him agreeing with me, the chairwoman of Mages is dangerous.”
Everyone looked at each other before looking her way. “How am I dangerous to an insignificant bug.” She growled as I smirked at her. “The easy, you accuse me of assault when you were the one that attacked me. So I had every right to defend myself since my very own grandmother wanted to kill me in front of everyone.”
My words made Andi stand up, and his eyes finally shine blood red. “How dare you accuse my made of wanting to harm her own family.” Andi was pissed as he stepped forwards. “You even claim that the disgrace of a dragon that killed your ancestor is familiar.” Andi comment piqued the rest of the council's interest.
If he stayed male, an older version of Hazel stood up and smirked mischievously. “Hazel, my sweet grandchild, I have decided to punish you but disallowing you to offer Mia Drake any more help. Especially offering to turn her to save her.” Hazel and I looked at each other as knights came over and set Hazel free.
“My apologies, Scarlett and Andi, but I believe the council will agree when I say you are both too close to case unbiased judgment on Mia Drake,” Magnus spoke next, gaining both of their attention. The rest of the council nodded in agreement, angering my grandmother further.
“Mia Drake, as Heavenly Being's head chairwoman, I believe I have just the proper and unbiased punishment for your crimes.”
An angelic blonde spoke as she stood up and smiled kindly. Leaving me feeling confused about what she truly felt since her smile was so warm. “Magnus, if you agree, we will sentence Mia Drake to death.” Everyone looked at the angelic woman named Victoria in complete shock.
“Hear me out. She will be sentenced to death for setting a 2000-year-old prisoner free in two weeks. This ruling will only be overturned if, in those two weeks, you can seal that familiar bond with the prisoner. Only then will we deem you innocent and free you of the charges.”
After Victoria spoke, I just gaped at the woman’s punishment, especially since the entire council agreed. “And remember, Hazel, you cannot help her at all. If she fails, you will allow us to put her to death, or you will join her.” Hazel's grandfather, Oliver the First, reminded them.
The knights came over and set me free but put a tracker anklet on my leg. Magnus came down to stand in front of me. “That anklet will allow us to find you in two weeks if you fail your mission. You must either get this criminal dragon to be your mate or lock him back in prison.” Unlike my grandmother and Andi, her familiar dragon, this man was at least fair.
“Go now, and don’t worry. We have already replaced you at the camp. So grab your things before heading out.”
He spoke coldly as I started to feel dread wash over me. I had yet to learn where the dragon was located at the moment. The knights guided us back through a portal that dropped Hazel and me at the cabin. It was daytime now, so my group and mages were outside for the day.
“Council Mia!”
We all looked at the human teenagers running towards me. They all pulled me into a group hug and started crying. They didn’t want me to leave, and apparently, neither did the mage teenagers. Since they came running over to hug me as well.
“You kids, be kind to each other. No bullying. Only help build each other to be better, you understand?” They all nodded and let go so I could repack my things. When Hazel and I entered the cabin, we were abused into hugs. “This is so unfair. All you did was correct an injustice.” Sora whined as she nuzzled into me. Hard to believe this badass kitsune was being so soft towards me.
Ryan took my hand and slipped a paper in my head. “I had a feeling the council would be pricked, so this is the address to my house in Boston.” I blinked at him, confused, because I knew he still lived in Vermont. “You can stay there as long as you need.” He kissed my forehead and held me close.
“Gentlemen, you may leave. I have been older by my father to make sure Mia is escorted off the grounds.”
We all turned to see Ji-Yong in the door frame, his arms crossed. His eyes were glowing gold in annoyance at the situation. The knights bowed and left us all alone. Ji-Yong closed his eyes and took a deep breath to calm down. “Hatchling, what trouble have you gotten into now? My father, Anacalagon, never gives me orders from the council.”
He looked up at me with calm golden-brown eyes. “Your father is the Chairman of Dragons!” Hazel shouted out in shock at the new information. “Yes, just like your grandfather is chairman of Nocturnals, Mia’s grandmother chairwoman of Mages, and Ryan’s great aunt is Alpha of Alphas.” Hazel and I both looked at Ryan in shock this time. Ryan just sighed and rubbed the back of his neck.
“I don’t like to name-drop, okay?”
It was my turn to sigh heavily and hang my head. “Ryan, are you helping, Mia?” Hazel managed to get her sentence out before Ryan slapped his hand over her mouth. “I don’t know what you're talking about.” He said as he nodded his head yes. I looked down at the item he put in my hand and saw it was an address, but something told me it wasn’t a house.
I turned around and kissed Ryan on the cheek softly. “Thank you for allowing me to stay in your family home in Boston,” I said with a smile, understanding he was trying to help secretly. So he wouldn’t get in trouble like Hazel. “Mia, gather your things. You really do need to leave the grounds.” Ji-Yong snapped us back to reality. Hearing him say my name felt nice but saddened me because it meant he had to be the bad guy at the moment.
I washed up and changed before packing and heading to Hazel’s car with Ji-Yong. “Hazel informed me that the car should have a full tank.” Ji-Yong finally spoke up once we finally got to the car. I threw my stuff in the back seat before turning to face him. He kissed my forehead before slipping something into my pants pocket.
“Hatchling, be safe and do your best to complete this mission. I want to see you live. So I can swear to be your familiar to piss them off even more.”
Ji-Yong words made my heart skip a beat and made my face feel warm. “You will be surprised how many people are cheering for you to succeed. Go show the council how to get s**t done.” I giggled and nodded before heading to open the car door.
“Oh, head one more thing. Something to help you piss off the dragon that abandoned you.”
I turned to look at Ji-Yong, only to have him crush his lips on mine. Each of his hands held my face so that I wouldn’t dodge. The shock allowed him to deepen the kiss and leave me breathless when he parted. “He’ll hate knowing another dragon trying to claim you.” Ji-Yong winked at me before heading back to the campground.
I took a moment to collect my thoughts before getting in the car and typing in the address Ryan gave me in the GPS. When it came up, I learned it was really a supernatural nightclub.
Oh man, this was going to be rough.
