Chp 7: Push 'n Pull

1706 Words
POV: Mia Driving down from York, MI, to Boston, MA, was chaos. I was cursing as I went to the nightclub left and right. Even when I was trying to find parking. Luckily, Ji-Yong gave me a black card, enough money to pay for parking. I was so glad I changed at a pit stop area to fit the club's dress code. I wore black shorts with fishnet tights, a white tube top, and a black biker jacket. I even let my curls down to help me be able to hide my identity. When I went to the entrance of the W.S. building, I was stopped by a bouncer who towered over me. "Business or Pleasure?" I handed him my I.D. and smiled at him. "Pleasure." He looked over my I.D. to ensure I was of age before returning it and signaling for me to go in. "Enjoy your time at Waking Shade." That was all he said after pointing to the purple rug. I noticed he was signaling which path to take since there were red and purple pathways. Honestly, this didn't surprise me since it was customary for supernatural buildings to have a business to cover up the nightlife. So, humans that had no idea of the realm couldn't interfere. If anything, they thought it was the W Hotel and felt it was too rich for them. I followed the purple carpet to an elevator door with security guards on each side. I held out with my palm face up and took a deep breath. Luckily that deep breath did help me make my eyes glow electric blue, making one of them come up and stamp my wrist. As the other one pressed the button to open the elevator doors. Having some access to my abilities was working in my favor. However, it left me wondering if I was finally tapping into my mage abilities or if my dragon was awakening inside me. I walked into the elevator where an attendant was waiting to send both of us to the 38th floor. When the doors opened, the music slapped us in the face. I entered the nightclub to see blackout currents covering the windows and plants hanging from the ceiling with fog machines and strobe lights. The place had two floors with a bar on each one. The bottom floor was for everyone, so there was a dancing crowd. No idea if anyone was sober. It was the top floor that was reserved for V.I.P. that caught my attention since I spotted the beautiful man who abandoned me and left me at the SSC's mercy. I just stared at him, making out with two succubus surrounding him. I allowed a low, soft glow to escape my lips, but it seemed some people heard it and looked my way. I walked over toward the V.I.P. stairs and was stopped by a guard. “Name!” He shouted so I could hear him over the music. Fuck, I completely forgot you had to be on the A list. It makes me wonder how the dragon got up there. “Mia Drake! I’m one of the heirs to the SSC.” I shot in the dark to see if my name could work or if I needed to fight these strong guards that could snap me in half. I was holding my breath as he looked at the clipboard. The guard stopped looking when one of his colleagues said something in his ear. He nodded in understanding and moved as he signaled me to go up. I blinked at him, confused, and he sighed before leaning in close to my ear. “We checked with the SSC. They said you’re here to capture someone as punishment. So go before we change our minds.” He grumbled before pushing me closer to the stairs. Glad to see my supposed crimes work in my favor for once. I went upstairs and saw people dancing or chilling in booths, practically having s*x through their clothes. I just shook my head and made my way to stand before the dragon asshole I had to capture. I crossed my arms in front of me while waiting for him to come up for air. Once he did, he froze the moment we made eye contact. “Surprised to see me, you piece of shit.” His shocked expression washed away as he raised an eyebrow. “I would use your name, but you sacrificed me to the SSC before I asked,” I said smugly before snatching the bottle of vodka off the table and chugging half it down. The succubus clapped their hands, impressed at my drinking abilities. I slam the bottle down before him as I lean in closer. “I don’t care now though. You see, I don’t even care that I’ve been sentenced to death in two weeks because of you, either.” His eyes were glowing the beautiful electric blue mine did. “What? Who dares to sentence you to death?” It was almost heartwarming to see him get angry over my death, but even I knew he was making sure it wasn’t my grandmother. “It doesn’t matter because I must make you complete the familiar bond or turn you back in. That’s the only way I can escape my death.” I said flatly as I stared at him. “Sweetie, why don’t you sit down with us and drink? Take your mind off all those pesky worries of yours.” One of the succubus said as she patted down beside her. I glared at her and saw my eyes shimmering against the glass mirrors behind her. She got rigid as she moved closer to the dragon. “If you’re simply going to be a buzz-kill, go away and die. I don’t care now that I’m free.” I looked at him in disbelief as the succubus cuddled up to him again. “Yeah, leave our sweet Tyson alone. You’re ruining all our fun.” I sighed heavily. In annoyance, I took back the bottle from the table. “Then your sweet Tyson can get you a new bottle. Since the least, you could do is let me get black out drunk before I jump from the roof.” I said, pointing out that I rather kill myself than deal with all this bullshit. Gaining even an ounce of my powers was starting to feel pointless now. Every moment since I met him was slowly sending me into a spiral of depression. I looked at the man they called Tyson in his beautiful dark blue eyes before chugging the rest of the bottle and heading to the bar. I don’t know why the SSC believed I could pull this off. It was as if they set me up to die anyway. I was granting my grandmother’s wishes from the beginning. I could feel the dread of my damnation wash over me slowly as I sat at the bar. I ordered whiskey, not caring that I was mixing dark liquor with light. I wanted to black out and forget everything. I started to think about my family and how my choice would blindside them. My mind became foggy as I drank, and I noticed a figure sitting beside me. I had a bad feeling about this new presence. . . . POV: Tyson I could finally return to enjoying my time with the ladies keeping me company, but that woman kept stealing my attention. Did she foolishly not know you shouldn’t mix light liquors like vodka with dark liquors like whiskey? She was drinking herself to death, leaving me wondering why someone wanted her dead so badly. I just shook my head to ignore her, but my attention was snatched again when I noticed an incubus beside the drunk woman. He was looking at Mia like prey as she swayed in her seat, giving away the fact that she had become too drunk to function. I could feel my shoulder burning as the danger increased. “Excuse me, ladies, but I must leave now.” They whined and grabbed at me as I walked away from them. They didn't have to worry about the tab since the owner was an old friend and covered everything. I approached Mia as the incubus tried to slip something into her drink. I grabbed him by his throat right before he had the chance. “Get lost!” I growled at him, using my aura to show the amount of power I possessed. He ran when I let go, just in time for me to catch Mia as she fell out of the chair. I sighed when she groggily opened her eyes. My breath hitched when I saw my past lover, Tia, in Mia’s body. “Don’t go.” That was all she said before blacking out. I swear that Tia was reincarnated and in my arms right now. I wasn’t going to be able to leave her alone, and here I was, trying to escape repeating history. Yet here I was, falling into the trap of fate in my arms. I picked her up bridal style and looked at the bartender. “Put her drinks on my tab.” He nodded before I carried her out of the nightclub. I went to the roof, though, so I could fly us over to the Mandarin Oriental Boston hotel. The supernatural usually checked in from the rooftop anyway, so they didn’t have to deal with hiding themselves from the humans. Times these days are so different from 2000 years ago. Humans used to fear us and bow to the supernatural. Dragons were the royalty of Middle Earth, and Mages were our advisors until Tia appeared. I looked down at Mia in my arms and felt my heartache since it was like looking at a modern version of Tia, the love of my life—the woman I was framed for killing. The bond was still there. How was I going to handle dealing with this version of my mate? Would this woman even realize I’m her mate, not just her familiar? Who was even trying to kill her this time, too?
