A new life

A birthday to remember.

I am woken up by a small beam of sunlight coming in through the blinds on my window. I stretch out my arms and legs as far as I can and sit up while rubbing my eyes. Today is my birthday. If I am to get a wolf I would get it today. I mentally check my inner thoughts and don’t find anything different. Getting out of bed I go to my closet to grab clothes for a shower. I grab flared blue jeans, a black tank top and a red and black flannel. I go to my dresser to grab a pair of socks and underwear. I go to my bathroom that’s connected to my room and set my stuff down. I take a quick shower so I can get some breakfast before any plans for the day start.

I make my way down stairs and see my mom making pancakes. I love pancakes. I quickly grab a plate and stack it high full of the golden pancakes. I drown them in syrup while I sit down at the counter. I quickly shove a fork full of pancakes in my mouth. I don’t really want to talk to my mom right now. All she is going to want to talk about is my wolf or lack of one. I don’t want to deal with that right now. I hurry up and finish my breakfast and drop my plate in the sink. I hurry back to my bedroom to grab a backpack and my earbuds. I plan on going to the library to study. I have all my test out tests in a week so I have to get going on my studies. I run down the stairs and leave through the front door of my house.

It’s a beautiful sunny day outside. I start a good pace while putting in my earbuds and turning on music on my phone. The walk to the library is a quick two blocks. I arrive to the library and pick a table in the very back corner. I don’t really want people to see me and bug me. I plan on being here for a few hours. After about an hour I realize I have gotten about half way through my studies. I stretch my back and look around the library. There are more people here now. I can hear whispers but I can’t tell what they are saying. Guess I’m not getting a wolf today. I decide that I am in a good place in my studies and pack my stuff up. I leave the library and decide to head into town farther. I want to see if the shops in town have any updated clothes that I like.

I get about a block away from the shops and my phone starts ringing. I take it out of my pocket and see that Kaine is calling. I answer my phone with a cheerful tone. “Hey babe!” I coo. “Where the hell are you? I have been sitting here banging on the door for 10 minutes!” Kaine yells through the phone. “ I went to study at the library and now I’m going to the shops” I answer quietly. “ I had plans for us today and now you have made us late. This is once again your fault. Why can’t you just be a good woman and wait for me to tell you what we are doing.” Kaine growled. “ I can wait for you here if you want. I don’t need to go to the shops.” I reply. I don’t really want to provoke him more. My mood is already soured after his attitude. “Fine! Stay there!” He yells and hangs up on me. I put my phone back in my pocket and sit on the curb exactly where I am. I don’t want to anger him more.

I am lost in my thoughts when I hear a car squealing around a corner. I look up and see that it’s Kaine. He drives a typical mom car. A small red sedan with four doors. I can hear his radio system thumping. I can see him behind the wheel and he looks very angry. His eyebrows are pinched together and his face is scrunched up in a scowl. I sigh because I know we will be fighting in about a minute.

Kaine slams on the brakes right next to me and stops his car. I quickly get into the passenger side and buckle up. I know he will be driving like a crazy person. He doesn’t say anything to me and just speeds up down the road. I don’t know we are going and I don’t want to say anything to irritate him. After a while I see that we are heading down a familiar road. It’s the road that leads to the lake. I am happy to be going out there. It’s peaceful and quiet. Once we get closer to the lake turn off I notice that there are a lot more cars than usual. I think it’s a little weird because there usually is not enough fishermen to line both sides of the road with cars. Kaine pulls the car into the boat launch area and all I can see is people. There are people every where along the beach connected to the boat ramp, people on the docks, people in the water swimming and on floaties. Kaine stops the car in a spot that is blocking off the bathrooms from being used.

The party went as good as every other day. Kaine spent the entire time dodging me and bragging to his friends about his conquests. Him bragging about all the girls he had been with hurt me. I decided that I would do better in the bedroom to make him only want me.

After a while I got tired of standing around by myself and went to sit by the water. While I was thinking about life, I heard a thud next to me. I turned to see Jeremiah sitting there smiling at me. I squealed and hugged him tight. I knew I would get in trouble for it but I didn’t care. Jeremiah was my oldest friend and he has been away from the pack for so long. We chatted about life and how things have been. When I told him about my life he looked sad. Once he noticed I saw his frown he quickly changed his expression and changed the subject. He has been 18 since January and had been away for studies so I asked if he had found his mate. “No, I have looked but, I can’t seem to find her. I don’t think she is 18 yet.” He said while staring at the sunset on the water. I felt bad for him. If anyone deserved an amazing mate it was him. We sat in silence for a while until Kaine came up and told me it was time to go. I stood up, waved goodbye to Jeremiah and followed Kaine to the car. I knew Kaine had been drinking but I couldn’t say anything. Any comment would get me in trouble with him.

Kaine drove me home. It was some kind of luck he didn’t hit anything on the way to my house. He was really drunk. Once we arrived I gave Kaine a quick kiss and hopped out of the car. I ran into the house before he could say or do anything. I went up to my room and got ready for bed. Nothing really went right today other than Jeremiah showing up. I didn’t get my wolf either so I must be full human. I got under the covers on my bed and got comfortable. I fell asleep easily and dreamt of having a wolf and running through the forest on four paws.
