I go over the files sent to me by my subordinates who control our city. I have appointed a guy in every area so that we have control over each one of them. Our borders are now more secure than earlier, but there are still some suspicious killings and illegal drug trade. I have made sure my most trusted men are assigned to those areas.
I spent the last 6 months attending all the functions and events that we were invited to make sure our alliance with all the politicians remained intact. My father, an arrogant bastard that he is, thought he was above everyone and disrespected them in the past. His power got to his head and got him killed eventually. Now it’s my turn to rectify everything.
Every page I go through blurs into the meeting with a certain lady I had dinner with last week. The whole dinner she kept quiet but whenever her father was not paying attention, her claws came into play. I don’t get why she is so scared of her father. I mean I get it, he is the don, but I think there is something more to it. The only person I saw smiling at was her chef, who was in her 60s, a sweet old lady who loved to feed others. Dishes were perfect, but instead of staring at the wrong sister, I tried to have a conversation with the one I’m marrying and it sucked.
Myra, is your typical queen bee who doesn’t care about anyone but herself and her appearance. The whole conversation was based on her favorite brands and her social group at the country club. I hardly spoke anything because I know nothing about either of these things. She was as superficial as they get, and my eyes would wander to her sister, who nibbled on her lips while eating, but now that I think about it, she hardly ate anything. She just played around with her plate. If it was my house, I would have force-fed her. No one wastes food around here.
No one knows the importance of food more than my brother and I.
The door to my office barged open and Vihaan strolled in casually, adding the dramatic effect. I rolled my eyes at his tactics.
“Don’t you ever knock?” I asked going through the numbers.
“Please, it’s not like this is your bedroom. Which in a few months, I won’t be able to barge in anyway,” he said, smirking and took a seat opposite to me.
“Why are you here again?” I asked, getting annoyed at his remarks.
“I finished all my work and came here to chat with you. My brother is getting married after all” I don’t get why he keeps reminding me that I’m getting married in 2 months.
“What do you want to talk about?” I asked, closing the files. It’s better I get this conversation over with, he is like a dog who won’t stop digging.
“My future sister-in-law, of course.” His grin is way too easygoing. It soothes my heart to see it after all this time, but he sure uses it to his advantage.
“You met Myra at dinner last week, what more do you want to talk about?” I hardly know her. At this point, I don’t even care. She’s a means to an end.
“She sure is intelligent, fashionable and charming,” he said in sarcasm. So, even he noticed.
“What else did you expect? The girl dresses like a wannabe socialite, her face is packed with make-up and her knowledge of the world is the size of a pea,” I shrugged.
“True,” He laughed. “Are you sure you want the marry her?” His question halts everything.
“I have to, that’s what we agreed on. The contract dictates I need to marry her and I can’t back out from it” I said leaning back.
“You think Sumedh is just trying to get rid of her or hiding something that he needs our assistance?” His question is been running in my head since we signed the contract.
“I have kept an eye on his business, but so far no red flags have been raised. About his daughter, I think she might be more trouble for him than it looks like,” I said.
“But did you notice the younger one? She’s far more natural but has a bite on her. I heard her talking to her sister, she put her in her place more than once” He said chuckling.
Notice her! She’s been on my mind more times that I can count.
“I really don’t care about either of them, all I need to worry about is the trade route. We need to trade our supplies faster and safely. That Shaurya Trivedi is sniffing on our borders and I don’t want him anywhere near my city” I said getting serious.
“That fucker is getting more daring day by day” Vihaan said gritting his teeth.
“It’s not his fault, it’s our father’s fault. He should have listened to me” I told him a year ago that Shaurya is snooping around our city and might be selling his supplies there, but my egoistic father never listened. Now he is very close to infiltrating our city.
“Good thing that bastard is dead.” His smile is evil and I share the emotion.

My bedroom barges open when I’m on phone with cherry explaining to her what happened at dinner last week. My sister walks in like this is her room, which sparks my irritation. I try so damn hard to impress her but her attitude just makes my calmness snap.
“Ever heard of knocking?” I said sarcastically cutting the call.
“Ever heard of minding your own business?” Her sharp voice squeaks out.
I cringed my eyebrows in confusion. What is she talking about?
“And when have I not?” I asked sitting straight.
She strolls into my room and sits on my ottoman like its her throne. I wanted to roll my eyes at her dramatics.
“At dinner, I saw the way my fiancée was looking at you. I don’t know what you are playing at, but stay away from him.” Her eyes narrow at me in disdain.
I was stumped.
“What are you talking about? I don’t have any interest in him and nor does he,” I said still very confused and not knowing what exactly was happening.
“Don’t act dumb! I know what I have seen, stay far, far away and again, it's not like he can be attracted to your fat ass anyway,” she said, getting up and striding away.
That b***h!
I love her, but I swear to god sometimes I want to kill her.
And why in the hell would I even care about her fiancée? That guy is dangerous and not to forget, scary. One interaction with him gave me goosebumps. Sure, he is extremely handsome like I can’t believe someone can be so good-looking, but he is in a mafia. If my father has arranged a marriage with someone, it means he is definitely a killer, so, no thanks. Not interested.
I really hope my sister gets some sense into her.
Shaking my head, I started reading my fiction book.
