Chapter 9 Madeline opened her eyes, immediately registering the unfamiliar surroundings and the time-traveling experience. Unlike the previous trip with Arik where they had been transported to the past in an instant without losing consciousness, this time was different. It seemed as if they had traveled through a passage of emptiness. There had been no sound, no sense of anything—and certainly there were no memories.
