Ella's phone buzzed on the coffee table, breaking the comfortable silence between her and Tracy. Lucas's name flashed on the screen, and Ella's heart skipped a beat. "Speak of the devil," Tracy said, raising an eyebrow. Ella smiled, picking up her phone. "I should text him back." Tracy nodded. "Go ahead. I'll grab some water from the kitchen." As Tracy disappeared into the kitchen, Ella quickly typed out a response to Lucas's message. "Hey, want to grab dinner this week?" Lucas asked. Ella's fingers moved swiftly over the keyboard. She hadn't mentioned Tracy's request to meet him yet, maybe this was a sign that the universe is in favor of their bond. "Actually, I was thinking...my best friend Tracy wants to meet you," Ella typed, hesitating before hitting send. Lucas responded almost immediately. "Sounds great! I'd love to meet her. When were you thinking?" Ella's eyes widened as she showed Tracy the exchange. "Looks like it's happening," Ella said, trying to contain her excitement. Tracy grinned, walking back into the living room with two glasses of water. "I'll behave, I promise," Tracy said, winking. Ella chuckled, feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation. "Thursday work for you?" Ella texted Lucas. "Perfect. Where and what time?" Lucas replied. Ella glanced at Tracy. "How about dinner at that new Italian place at 7 pm?" Tracy suggested, it would be her day off. Ella nodded, typing out the details. "See you Thursday," Lucas responded. Ella's phone slipped from her fingers, and she met Tracy's gaze. "It's happening," Ella repeated, her voice barely above a whisper. Tracy's expression turned serious. "I'll make sure to be on my best behavior," Tracy said, "but if he's not good enough for you, I'll let him know." Ella rolled her eyes. "I can handle myself, Tracy." Tracy smirked. "I'm just looking out for you, girl." The two friends clinked their glasses together in a silent toast. Thursday couldn't come soon enough Ella sat back on the couch, taking a deep breath as the reality of the situation sank in. This was it—the moment she'd been both anticipating and dreading for weeks. Her worlds were about to collide: Lucas, the guy who had made her heart flutter, and Tracy, the friend who had been by her side through thick and thin. "I wonder what they'll think of each other," Ella mused aloud, her voice barely above a whisper. Tracy raised an eyebrow, falling down beside her. "Why are you worried? Don’t tell me you're scared that I'll steal him away." Ella laughed, but it was tinged with nervousness. "As if. But you can be...intense." Tracy gave her a playful glare. "I prefer the term 'protective'." Ella sighed, sinking deeper into the couch. The soft glow of the table lamps cast a warm ambiance, and the scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered in the air. Thursday arrived faster than Ella had anticipated. The morning of the dinner, she found herself fidgeting throughout the day—checking her phone every few minutes, pacing her apartment, and overthinking every detail. She had already changed outfits three times, debating whether to go for casual or dressy. By the time she met Tracy at the Italian restaurant, Ella was a bundle of nerves. The soft ambient lighting of the restaurant cast a warm glow, and the smell of garlic and freshly baked bread filled the air. "You okay?" Tracy asked as they sat at their reserved table near the window. Ella nodded, fiddling with her napkin. "Just...nervous, I guess." Tracy reached across the table and squeezed her hand. "Relax. Everything’s going to be fine." Ella took a deep breath, appreciating the gesture. Tracy was right—there was no use stressing over something she couldn’t control. Lucas was amazing, Tracy was her best friend, and tonight would just be about the three of them enjoying good food and company. At exactly 7 p.m., Lucas walked through the door, scanning the room until his eyes landed on Ella. She waved, and he made his way over, flashing her that signature smile that never failed to make her heart flutter. He looked effortlessly handsome in a crisp button-down shirt and jeans, his hair slightly tousled as though he'd just stepped out of a magazine shoot. "Hey," Lucas greeted them as he reached the table, his eyes softening as they met Ella’s. "Hey," Ella said, standing to hug him. Lucas turned to Tracy with an easy smile. "You must be Tracy. I’ve heard so much about you." Tracy stood, giving Lucas a firm handshake. "And I’ve heard a lot about you too. All good things, I promise." Lucas chuckled, glancing at Ella. "I’ll take that as a good sign." As they sat down, the conversation flowed easily at first. They exchanged pleasantries—Lucas talked a bit about his job, Tracy asked him about his hobbies, and Ella found herself relaxing more with each passing minute. Lucas was charming and funny, and Tracy seemed to be warming up to him quicker than Ella had expected. By the time their food arrived, Ella was feeling much more at ease. The three of them laughed over shared stories and jokes, and even Tracy seemed genuinely impressed by Lucas's wit and intelligence. "So," Tracy said, taking a sip of her wine, "Ella tells me you’re really into hiking as one of your hobbies. She’s been talking about trying it. Maybe you two could plan a trip?" Ella shot Tracy a grateful smile. It was a small gesture, but it showed that Tracy was making an effort to connect with Lucas, to find common ground. And it was working. "I’d love that," Lucas replied, his eyes lighting up. "There’s this amazing trail a few hours away. We should plan something soon." As the night wore on, Ella realized how natural it felt to have the two of them together. The nervousness that had plagued her all week was gone, replaced by a warm sense of contentment. This was exactly what she had hoped for—a meeting where both worlds meshed perfectly. When the dinner finally came to an end, and they were saying their goodbyes outside the restaurant, Ella felt a wave of relief wash over her. "That went well," Tracy said, nudging Ella as Lucas walked ahead to get the car. Ella smiled, her heart full. "Yeah, it did." Tracy gave her a sideways glance. "I approve." Ella let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. "Thank God." Tracy laughed. "He’s a keeper, Ella. Don’t let this one go." Ella watched as Lucas pulled the car up to the curb, her heart swelling with affection. Maybe, just maybe, things were finally falling into pla
