CHAPTER 20 Possessive “He was just asking about registration.” Hana frowned while following Danish through the crowded exhibition hall. “Then why was he touching your arm?” “He tapped my sleeve for two seconds.” “That’s unnecessary.” “That’s called human interaction.” Danish stopped walking abruptly near the engineering booth. Students moved around them carrying project materials and registration forms, but the atmosphere between them suddenly felt too tight. Too sharp. “You let people get too comfortable.” Hana stared at him in disbelief. “Excuse me?” “You trust everyone too easily.” “That still doesn’t explain why you looked ready to commit violence over booth registration.” “I did not.” “You crushed the files.” “I was holding them.” “Like they personally insulted your bloodline.” Danish looked away briefly, jaw tightening slightly. And suddenly— something inside Hana became annoyed too. Not soft annoyed. Actually annoyed. Because lately he kept doing this. Watching. Interrupting. Acting strange whenever other people talked to her. Then denying everything afterward. Exhausting. “You know what?” Hana crossed her arms. “You’re becoming controlling.” “I’m not controlling.” “You literally answered people on my behalf last week.” “They were distracting you.” “That’s not your decision to make.” For one second, neither of them spoke. Then Danish said quietly— “You don’t notice things.” The sentence caught her off guard slightly. “What does that even mean?” “You think everyone approaches you innocently.” “And?” “And not everyone has good intentions.” Hana blinked. Then laughed softly in disbelief. “Ya Allah.” “What?” “You really think every guy around me is suspicious?” “I didn’t say that.” “You practically interrogate people with your face.” “That’s their problem.” “No, Danish. You make it everyone’s problem.” Something about her tone finally made him go quiet. Good. Because honestly? Hana was tired. Tired of him acting weird. Tired of him getting irritated. Tired of him caring too much then pretending he didn’t. And most importantly— tired of not understanding why it bothered her at all. Before either of them could continue, Mira suddenly appeared beside the booth dramatically. “There you both are.” She immediately looked between their faces once. Then sighed. “Oh no.” “What now?” Hana asked flatly. “You two had another emotionally constipated argument?” “We did not.” “That’s exactly what people say before getting married.” “Astaghfirullah,” Hana replied immediately. Mira ignored her professionally. “Anyway, Hana, the media club people are asking for you again.” Hana groaned dramatically. “Why?” “They want volunteers for campus interview content.” “Why me?” “Because apparently everyone likes you.” Annoying information. Very annoying information. As Hana walked away with Mira toward the media booth, she could still feel Danish watching from behind. Not openly. But enough. And somehow— that irritated her more. Later that night after Isyak prayer, Hana sat outside the female hostel eating fries with Alya while ranting dramatically. “He acts like I’m incapable of functioning independently.” Alya nodded seriously while stealing fries from the plate. “Mhm.” “And every time another guy talks to me, suddenly his mood changes.” “Mhm.” “And then he denies everything like engineering robot.” “Mhm.” Hana stopped mid-sentence. “…Why do you sound entertained?” “Because this is entertaining.” “This is stressful.” Alya grinned slowly. “So you’re affected too.” “I’m affected because he’s annoying.” “Not because you care?” “Absolutely not.” That answer came too fast. Unfortunately— Alya noticed immediately. “Oho.” “No oho.” “You’re thinking.” “I’m not thinking.” “You’ve been talking about him for twenty minutes.” Hana immediately leaned back against the bench dramatically. “Astaghfirullah.” Because somehow— without realizing it— Danish had slowly become part of her daily life too. And honestly? That was beginning to feel dangerous.
