One reckless night

(Zara) The ride to his place stayed quiet. Not awkward. Just quiet enough for me to think too much. Streetlights passed outside the window while I sat beside a man whose last name I didn’t even know. A few hours ago I was throwing cake at Ryan and trying not to cry in my car. Now I was in the back of a black car with a stranger who looked far too calm for this situation. I looked toward him again before I could stop myself. Sebastian noticed immediately. “You keep staring at me,” he said. “You keep noticing.” “That usually happens when someone stares.” I rolled my eyes and looked away again. Annoying. The car turned through large gates before stopping in front of a massive mansion. Lights glowed through tall windows, and the place looked like something out of a movie. I stared at it openly. “You live here?” “For now.” I laughed once. “Rich people really say things like that.” His mouth lifted slightly. The driver got out first, but Sebastian opened my door himself. I stepped out and looked around while trying not to seem impressed. I failed. Inside, the mansion was quiet and modern. Black, white, glass, marble. Everything looked clean and untouched. “No dramatic gold statues?” I asked. “You sound disappointed.” “I expected billionaire nonsense.” “You watch too many movies.” “That’s fair.” He loosened the top buttons of his shirt while walking farther inside. My attention followed the movement before I caught myself. Dangerous. “What do you want to drink?” he asked. “Water.” “One responsible decision tonight?” “One attempt at one.” He handed me a glass before leaning against the kitchen counter across from me. His eyes stayed on me again. I was starting to understand why women probably lost their minds around him. It wasn’t just that he was attractive. It was the attention. The way he looked at people like he already knew what they were thinking. “What?” I asked. “You’re nervous.” “I’m in a stranger’s mansion.” “You got in the car willingly.” “I make bad choices after betrayal.” That earned a quiet laugh from him. “I noticed.” I took another sip of water while trying to ignore how aware I was of him standing there. The silence came back again. Different this time. Hotter. God. I needed to stop thinking like that. “You can still leave,” he said. That caught me off guard. “What?” “If this is revenge against your ex, you’ll regret it tomorrow.” I looked at him carefully then. Most men wouldn’t say that. Most men would already be trying to get me upstairs. “You want me to go?” I asked. “No.” The answer came fast. “But I’m giving you the choice.” I set the glass down. “What if I already made it?” His eyes held mine for a second before he pushed away from the counter and walked toward me. Every bit of confidence I’d been pretending to have started disappearing. He stopped in front of me. Close enough that I remembered exactly how he kissed me back at the bar. “You think a lot for someone making reckless decisions,” he said quietly. “I’m trying to make sure this stays a mistake.” His hand touched my waist. “You say that like you’re convincing yourself.” Maybe I was. I looked up at him. Then I kissed him first. His hand moved to my back immediately, pulling me against him while his mouth took over mine harder than before. The glass of water was forgotten somewhere behind me as both my hands grabbed his shirt. This felt nothing like kissing Ryan. Nothing. Sebastian kissed like a man used to getting exactly what he wanted. And right now he wanted me. The thought alone made heat rush through me. He lifted me onto the counter without breaking the kiss. My dress moved higher against my thighs while his hands settled on my waist. “You still thinking?” he asked against my lips. “Barely.” “That’s better.” I laughed against his mouth before he kissed me again. Everything after that happened fast. Not rushed. Just impossible to stop. Kisses turned into hands moving everywhere at once while he carried me upstairs. By the time he reached his bedroom, I was already too far gone to care about making sensible decisions. The room was huge. Dark walls. Tall windows. City lights in the distance. None of it held my attention for long because Sebastian closed the bedroom door and looked at me like he planned to ruin whatever control I had left. “You’re staring again,” he said. “You’re very aware of yourself.” “I’m aware of you.” That did something to me I didn’t want to think about too closely. I reached for him first this time. His mouth crashed into mine while his hands moved down my back and pulled me against him. “Tell me if you want me to stop,” he said quietly. I shook my head. Definitely not. Then my bra and panties landed beside the bed. Then his pants. After that, nothing stayed organized for long. The sheets tangled around us while his mouth moved against mine again and again. Every kiss made it harder to remember why this was supposed to be a bad idea. His hands moved across my waist and thighs while he kissed me like he had no intention of stopping anytime soon. I lost count of how many times he made me forget my own thoughts. At one point I laughed against his mouth because this whole night felt insane. “You still thinking about leaving?” he asked. “You talk too much.” “That’s not an answer.” I pulled him down to kiss me again instead. That seemed to satisfy him. For the first time since opening Ryan’s bedroom door earlier, everything else disappeared. No cheating boyfriend. No fake best friend. No humiliation. Only this. Only tonight. Hours later, I woke up in darkness. For a second I forgot where I was. Then I felt an arm around my waist and remembered everything immediately. Right. The stranger with the mansion. I turned my head slightly and looked at Sebastian beside me. Still asleep. Good. Because leaving suddenly felt harder than it should have. I slipped from the bed carefully and grabbed my dress from the floor. My heels sat near the chair beside the dark wig and glasses I’d almost forgotten about. Seeing them again snapped me back to reality fast. This wasn’t real life. This was heartbreak, alcohol, and one reckless decision. Nothing more. I got dressed quietly before looking around for my purse. Then my attention landed on the watch near the bed. I stared at it for a second before spotting a pen and small notepad nearby. An idea came to me immediately. I wrote quickly. Thanks for the distraction. Try not to miss me too much. I placed the note beside the watch and grabbed my purse. Then I walked out before I could change my mind. The mansion stayed quiet while I headed downstairs. Somewhere in the distance, I heard movement that was probably staff starting their day. Once I stepped outside, cold air hit my face immediately. I took out my phone and ordered an Uber before looking back at the mansion one last time. Bad idea. Very bad idea. A few minutes later, headlights appeared near the gates. Perfect. I got into the Uber quickly and gave the driver my address. As the mansion disappeared behind us, I leaned back against the seat and closed my eyes. One reckless night. That was all this was ever supposed to be.
