[Maeve] I fluttered my eyes open once again but this time, it was …. Different. Although I was relieved I was not in the woods, I was also… shocked to find myself in the new environment. I guess I had passed out again. A sigh escaped my lips as I managed to sit up but every part of my body ached like it was going to detach itself from each other. “Here. “ A husky voice suddenly interrupted my thoughts as a tray of food was pushed to me through the little space that was between each metal bars that formed the door in the rat hole I was put in. He had a frown etched to his face as he looked at me. He was one of the soldiers who had captured me and accused me of being a spy. I was quite skeptical if to have the meal or not. What if it was poisoned? I arched my brows and stared at him, trying to read his facial expressions to be sure he had really not poisoned it. “You claimed to be hungry so eat this right now and you can decide not to. It isn’t my business anyway. ” He muttered and walked out quickly, grumbling and muttering some words to himself. As soon as he was out, I devoured the meal quickly and almost choked on it. I was starving and it seemed like I was going to pass out. A couple of seconds later, he brought in a jar of water and scoffed upon seeing me. I was brought to an halt at that moment. “Did you poison me?” I questioned. He scoffed once again and walked away almost immediately, not uttering any more word. I shrugged. It doesn’t matter anymore after all, I had eaten a large part of it. On the realization of where I was, I looked around quickly once again. I had been locked up. In a small room, perhaps a prison? Because I had come to seek refuge? Having eaten to my fill, I sat back to try to strategize and perhaps, wait for interrogations from them. Just like I expected, I suddenly heard a door push open which I believed to be the main door and yes, I was right as I heard footsteps of someone approaching me. From his garment, I could tell he was the Alpha or perhaps, related to the Alpha? “Why are you here?” He questioned with a frown etched to his face. Despite his facial expression, he was still handsome. His jet black hair complimented his Florentine features and his ocean blue eyes! One could drown in it. He had his hands crossed behind him and his brows raised. “I just needed help. I needed food and water” I responded and bowed. He didn’t seem convinced enough. I silently hoped and prayed he would not punish me. Despite trying so hard, his handsome face popped in my head over and over again. ‘He is going to hurt you. Forget the beauty or whatever it is you see' My wolf reminded me and I nodded. She finally seemed to be awake after what.. three nights? “Really? Where? How? Where have you always been before now? What pack are you from?” He questioned and crouched to look at me. I was lost for words as I knew I could not give myself away. I could not tell him the truth as I would only be putting myself in danger. What if he was no different from the other Alpha? “I… I do not have a home. Several Alphas did not grant me access into their pack. “ I spoke softly, trying to sound as pitiful as I could. “And we cannot grant you access here too. “ He responded and stood up. “You will be given the grace till morning. Afterwards, you will leave this pack.” “Please….” I held him by the hem of his garment. “I do not have anywhere else to go. I heard you are a compassionate Alpha and you are a very nice man. Please, have mercy on me. I can work as a maid for you if you want me to. All I need is a roof over my head and food as well as water. I am not asking for anymore thing. “ I pleaded. There was no where I could go. I hoped and prayed within me that he would have mercy on me. “Well, I guess you heard wrong. ” He turned to look at me and yanked my hands off his garment, releasing a gasp from me. “I am not the Alpha of this pack and that simply tells you I am not compassionate neither am I nice. You leave tomorrow. ” He answered and turned to leave. A sigh escaped my lips as I bent in frustration. Where was I going to go? That was my only hope and now, he was taking that away from me? “What is your name?” I suddenly heard him call out to me and I raised up my head. He had returned? Some hope seemed to be lit up in me as I hoped he was going to help me. I was quiet for a while as it felt like my tongue had cleft to the roof of my mouth. “Do not make me repeat myself. ” He stressed each word, more like reminding me. “Marissa” I responded and he scoffed before walking out again, leaving me even more shattered that I initially was. The walls as well as the gates of the room I was locked in seemed too ancient to be able to escape from. Seconds rolled into minutes and minutes into hours but with each second that passed, I felt better. A couple of hours after lunch had been served, the young man returned to the room. I had no idea what he wanted this time but I hoped it was something positive. “We will be having a party tonight. If you want to stay here, prepare to serve as a maid. ” He responded and walked out. A smile formed on my face as he walked out. Freedom!
