“What's it going to be, lady?” The blonde lady hovered confidently over her opponent. Immediately the words left her mouth, she felt a sharp pain in her cheeks. The room fell silent for a while and her gasp followed almost immediately.
“Oh, she did not just hit me!” The blonde lady held her cheek while gazing sharply at the opponent. The blonde raised her hand to return the slap that was given to her, then the door swung open.
“What is going on here?” The manager's voice boomed through the room. His eyes darted sharply to the blonde one, and he was surprised to see her hand in the air.
“Sloane Hart!” The director's voice thundered again.
“So that is what you're called?” The other party's eyes located that of the blonde lady.
“Manager Manuel, your choice of employees is really… fancy?” The other party said, exuding arrant arrogance.
“I'm sorry, Miss Calloway. I apologize for her inability to handle situations better.”
“Calloway, huh?!...that's the genesis of this whole s**t”
“Sloane, language,” the director snared at her.
“Manager, she is just a representative. She raised her filthy hands on me, and you're apologizing on my behalf?” Sloane spoke, her hands on her waist.
“I want her fired.” Sloane looked at the arrogant fellow in front of her and laughed out loudly. The grace and poise she had carried before the meeting started was long gone.
She was the Strategic Partnership Director of Monarch International. Dealing with these kind of clients from multimillion- dollar companies took a lot of patience, but this particular one went way out of the line.
“You have no right to place orders in this company, who do you think you are?” Sloane said, dusting her red suit.
“Lady Michelle Calloway, heiress of the Calloway empire whose influence is more than sufficient to kick you back to the curbs where you came from.” Sloane laughed again.
“Whoever gave you that ridiculous title sure has a way with words.” Michelle frowned. “...and who told you I came from the curbs?” Sloane paused, debating on if to bring up her family issues.
“Manager Manuel?” Michelle Calloway turned to look at him. In his case, he was confused. He didn't need anybody to tell him what he had to do but he couldn't risk losing Sloane Hart.
She had taken the company to heights with her good communication and partnership skills. She personally handled major brand collaborations and presented good profit proposals to Monarch's executive board.
“I'm sorry, Miss Calloway but Director Sloane is one of our most productive employees, we can't just let her off like that.” Slaone smiled in victory at the manager's words.
“Is that so?” Michelle Calloway asked and Manager Manuel responded with a nod immediately.
“Then if her job is so important, I want her to beg for it.” Sloane's smile vanished from her face and Manager Manuel's face drained off colour. He knew the kind of person Sloane was. Productive…yes, good communication…yes, perfect leadership skills, no doubt but…..how was he to say this…in more formal terms, she was a little bit of a b***h.
Sloane watched as Michelle Calloway sunk in her seat with a nasty smile on her face.
“Kneel and beg” Michelle Calloway snared at Sloane. Sloane didn't budge instead she raised her shoulders even more and folded her arms standing ever confidently.
“Sloane, please” Sloane turned to Manager Manuel. She wasn't surprised he would say this. 'weak’...she thought to herself. She hated men like him.
“Go on” Michelle Calloway waved her hands at Sloane.
“Please Sloane, save your job and our company. The job means a lot to you right.” Sloane's expression softened at Manager Manuel's words. She did love her job.
Three years ago, she made a choice to build something for herself and that was what she was doing. She couldn't let anybody step in her way but at the time, she couldn't let any body step on her.
If she let her position go, she would lose everything she had fought and sacrificed for. Her life right then was what she had always dreamed about. Cars, properties, parties, fashion, vacation, connections of all sort. All those things revolved round the job she had spent years building.
“Please, Sloane” Manager Manuel begged again. It was obvious he was on a thin rope. If Sloane begged, everything would be normal again but if she didn't, not only her job would be lost, partnerships would crumble with her absense. The company would suffer indefinite loss.
“Never in your damn dreams, b***h” Sloane said. Her decision was already made. Once she gave someone a chance to see her weakness, it wouldn't definitely be taken advantage of. She had to learn that the hard way.
“Sloane, don't be selfish.” Slaone frowned at Manager Manuel but chose not to say anything. She knew where he was coming from but she didn't like it.
“Slaone Hart, just because of pride, you want to throw everything you've worked for?” Michelle Calloway laughed and stood up looking Sloane in the eyes but had to look up because naturally, Sloane was taller plus she had heels on.
“Aren't people counting on you?” Michelle laughed again, the mockery behind it inevitably evident. Manager Manuel already sensed the tension getting heavier.
Sloane looked at Michelle Calloway dead in the eye. Her eyes clearly intimidating.
“I like this view, I mean me looking at you from above” Sloane drew her face closer to that of Michelle's… “you being below” Michelle drew her face back.
“How dare you?!” Michelle Calloway raised her hand just like before but before it could land on Sloane's face, Sloane caught it and locked it in a tight grip. Michelle Calloway screamed in pain as Sloane tightened her grip around her wrist.
“Sloane Hart, you're fired” Manger Manuel's voice thundered at Sloane. He hadn't expected Slaone to grip her hand.
Immediately she did that, he knew once that he had to fire her if not the consequences would be worse than that of letting Sloane go on her own.
“Let her go, you've done enough” Sloane turned a deaf ear to Manager Manuel's words. He was no longer her superior. Michelle continued screaming and all efforts to escape her grip proved pointless.
Manager Manuel lunged at Sloane but before he could hold her, she released Michelle Calloway's hand and stared at him intently making him shrink.
“There’s no need firing me, Manuel. I already quit, remember.” With that, Slaone grabbed her purse and catwalked her way out of the office in sinful confidence. Her hips swaying in perfect sync with her shoulders.
“You are making a big mistake, Sloane” He screamed after Sloane, ignoring the eyes of the other workers present. Soon, whispers and murmurs overtook the atmosphere.
“She will pay for this” Michelle said with gritted teeth holding her wrist.
Sloane walked back into her office, locked the door behind and immediately broke down on her seat. She looked around the office and groaned in regret.
Once again, her efforts all gone down the drain. Tired, she picked up her phone and dialed a number. After a few rings, the line connected.
“Hello, Sloane”
“Hey, can we see later today?” Sloane said, getting straight to the point. She was too drained for pleasantries. She needed a someone at the moment.
“You good?” The voice asked.
“Please, Elliot. Let's just meet.”
“Okay, I'll make out time” The voice said and Sloane dropped the phone from her ear cutting the call.
“Three years of sacrifice and hardwork, this is what I get.” Sloane inhaled deeply trying to stop her tears. She was never one to cry but then, she couldn't help it. She knew Michelle Calloway, after what she had done to her, Michelle Calloway would definitely not let her off easily. It was at that moment she knew she had f****d up.
