One Year Later
“Nate! You cheated!” I yelled at my friend and Commander of the Red Horizon Pack.
He laughed, “I didn’t cheat sweetheart. I’m just that good.” His smug smile plastered on.
“Whatever, I’m done for the day. I’ll see you at dinner.” I waved him goodbye and he shook his head at me.
“Don’t be a sore loser Ivory!” He yelled after me. I stuck out my tongue at him and continued skipping towards the pack house.
One year ago, I left that dreaded place and found my home. Where I am loved, where I belong. Today is my 18th birthday and Alpha Jack and his Luna Abigail were throwing me a birthday dinner.
The last time I had a birthday celebration was the year my father died, I was 8. After he died, my mother tried to hold on for as long as she could but she was never the same and neither was I. Even at that age, I never felt like celebrating, not without my father and it got worse without my mother. But now I had my grandmother Jade with me and this whole pack. They were my family and that was a good reason to celebrate.
I remember a year ago when I first tried leaving Golden Moon Pack, I was hunted down and beaten. They tortured me, asking what I had done to Bryce. That piece of s**t probably never told them we were mates. He let them do it and out of revenge for accepting his rejection, he beat me too and humiliated me. They left me in the dungeon at deaths doorstep but I was saved. No, not by an Angel but by a Vampire.
I still don’t know why he did it. He could’ve gotten killed helping me. I remember he took me to a safehouse of some sort and nursed me back to health. He never drank blood from me. Even without a wolf, he couldn’t. He would say werewolf blood tasted foul, like rotten meat. Gross!
When I got better, one night he left without a word. I only got his name, Lucian. He left me clothes and money, after that I went on the search for my grandmother's pack and luckily, I found it. Lucian had told me that Bryce and his people were looking for me and I was afraid they would find me.
I’m sure my i***t brother doesn’t know I’m here or maybe he does. I don’t know but even though I’m happy and safe. I have a bad feeling about tonight.
As I walk from the training grounds to the packhouse, pack members greet me with ‘Happy Birthday Ivory’, or ‘See you tonight birthday girl’. It was nice and different for a change.
I stepped into the huge packhouse, there were people milling about, Omegas and cooks making dinner. The Luna supervising, making sure everything was going great and my grandmother making my cake.
“Ivowy! Ivowy! Look, look!” Little Abby said as she ran towards me.
“Abigail, leave Ivory alone, she’s had a long day.” Luna Abigail said as she covered her mouth to suppress a giggle.
“It’s okay Luna Abigail.” I said as I picked up her cute little 3-year-old. “Show me.” I told Abby.
“Happy bufday!” She said with a big smile on her face while handing me a friendship bracelet she made.
“It’s beautiful, thank you!” I kissed her cheek and walked to the kitchen and sat little Abby down.
I went to the pantry and grabbed a water bottle. I was beat after the ass kicking Nate did during training. He wasn’t lenient even though it was my birthday. Ever since I got here, I had a crush on him. He was handsome, built and a gentleman. His forest green eyes are gorgeous and his lips look soft and juicy. Now that I’m 18 and without a mate, maybe I could see where things go with him. I’m hoping he isn’t seeing anyone, even though he is a bit of a player, maybe he won’t be afraid of something more serious.
I watched everyone work and took Abby to her mom. They needed to get ready for tonight and I did too. I kissed Abby on the head and went up to my room. My grandmother and I both lived in the packhouse. Along with the Alpha and his family, the Beta family, Nate, the Gamma and a few warriors and Omegas. Needless to say, the place never felt dull.
As I was ascending the stairs and made it to the landing, I was tackled by 2 little 6-year olds. The Beta twins, Elijah and Ezra.
“Happy birthday!” They said in unison.
“Oh goddess, I think you guys broke my back.” I said and they giggled. “So, where’s my present?” I raised my brow and they exchanged looks.
“We, um.” Elijah started.
“We didn’t get you anything.” Ezra said sullenly.
I smiled wide at them and began to tickle them both.
“No present! What! How dare you two!” They both squealed and laughed. “I don’t need a present silly boys. I have you two and little Abby and that’s enough for me.”
When I stopped tickling them, they hugged me tight. “We love you Ivory.” They again said in unison.
“I love you both very much too. Now go, I have to get ready and I’m sure your mom and dad are looking for you.” I got up off the floor and made my way to my room.
When I entered my room there was a box on my bed. I walked towards it like it was a bomb. Who would have left this here? I opened it slowly, in it was a small little wooden box and a note. I opened the note and it said.
Happy birthday my little orb,
I’m sorry I left so sudden last year. I had matters to attend to. Anyways, here’s a little gift I know you’ll soon need. I had a friend make it. Your grandmother knows her and she would probably explain what it’s for and how to use it.
Little orb, you’re no longer safe there. Be very careful, please. That pack I saved you from, their Alpha is getting close to finding out where you are. Here’s my number ###-###-####. Don’t ever hesitate to call me. I’ll always be around to help you.
Your dearest friend, Lucian.
