CHAPTER SEVENLord Wakefield did not return to the house that evening. Aunt Mary was beside herself with worry as she paced up and down the drawing room after dinner. Viola sat and read while her aunt tried to distract herself. But as ten o’clock struck and Viola said that she was ready for bed, Aunt Mary became more agitated. “I shall not sleep until Hugo is back,” she howled, wringing her hands. “Please, aunt, you must rest.
