"I don't want to go there", I said with a disappointed groan as I knew nobody is going to listen to me.
"You will be in good hands there and since you already know your aunt, it will not be like a new city to you. She insisted me to send you there". My father came from behind and continued "I agree I was not comfortable sending you there as well, but living in new city can be problematic since I know how you are".
"But Dad, my classes are too far from there". I quickly tried to find an escape, but as I expected someone had to step in. My big brother came in and said Aunty has promised that she will send you in car and you will have no problem.
"But Max, did you not hear about Mr. Arrogant? He is not an easy person to live with".
"Don't worry about him, you are not going there to live with him and besides he leaves for office at 7 am and comes back after 10 pm. You will not even notice him." Said my mom with a smile on her face. "But.... but.... but....." I finally ran out of excuses and said "OK I will go". What other option I had.
My flight landed early morning and Aunty was there to pick me up. Although I was glad to see her, I didn't want to take anyone's gratitude but still here I was. It took couple of minutes to reach their house which looked like a mansion with a marvelous garden. Wow, this house is big, not just big, its huuuuuge. It can fit my whole street. I said to myself.
"Hey Nicolle", I snapped out when Aunty tapped my shoulder. She was the one who brought me to her house in the city so I can attend my classes and have exam after 2 months. My Dad didn't want me to stay at my aunt's but the only other option was a room, which made him more concerned.
I went to my room, and as expected its bigger than my house. I tried to contain my amusement but she saw it and smiled. "I know its big dear, I was feeling the same when I first came here after marriage, but trust me, people that are living here have bigger hearts and that's all that matters."
"I heard something else", I said as I moved inside and placed my bag on bed. "I heard that the man who runs this house is different. He hardly talks, and when he talks its only business. He does not speak to his brother and sister, and calls his mom by name. I don't know if he will be able to guide me in my studies. I know I will need his help but will he do it?"
"Aunty, you called for me....." A heavy yet soft voice came from behind, I turned to look and God he looks so sexy. His eyes, subtle beard. He can pull anyone towards him. And his voice, just cherry on top. I immediately came out of my thought as I was already engaged to Jack.
My Dad and Jack's father were friends even before I was born and when we were in college, they asked us. I don't love him and he too considers me as a friend only. But when they asked, we agreed, since its better to marry a friend than a stranger.
"Yes, I need your help. She is my niece. She has her exams in 2 months and she can use all the help she can get. Can you guide her till exams? "
He looked at me as if I am a ghost but he said OK and smiled at her. Well, this is different from what I heard. He is talking with Aunty in a very nice way. May be I was wrong about him.
He proceeded towards me and said "I usually don't deny what Aunty says and she asked me to help you, so just text me if you need anything. I don't pick up calls when I am in office". He stopped for a second and said "Do you want to join as an intern in my office? You can study in your free time".
"OK, I will be there before lunch. I had a long flight and couldn't sleep and moreover its just 8 in the morning".
He looked surprised and said "Then don't come today, join from tomorrow. I don't allow anyone to enter my office late". He left as soon as he finished.
I looked puzzled to my Aunty and she laughed "Yes, he is a workaholic. He is leaving late today as I asked him to stay until I come back. Its ok, you take some rest or a bath whatever you wish. Come for breakfast by 9, we always eat together. That's a rule you will have to follow and No, he never eats with us. He take all his meals in office". She said even before I could ask and left.
I closed the door and gave my room another look. I loved it. It had a balcony with a great view of garden. "Perfect place to study", I said to myself.
