Alex:
I saw her before she was going for dress fitting. She looked very different from what I remember. That Nicolle was full of life, mischievous, chatting in my office, yelling at her brother over the phone, rolling her eyes, trouble maker. This Nicolle, her eyes seem so lifeless. Am I overthinking?
I tried to talk to her, but couldn't. I was feeling bad about not reaching out to her earlier. I didn't even congratulate her when her results came. Neither did I called her when Jack called off the wedding. She was with her best friend Emma. Before coming to Nicolle place, I met Emma.
"Hi Emma, I hope I am not disturbing you."
"No, not at all. In fact I am happy to meet the person who helped my friend so much, although you were the one that caused the problem in the first place."
"Yeah.. Umm, I just wanted to ask about her. How is she? I didn't talk to her in the past 3 years. How is she doing? Is she working somewhere?" Please say yes, she is doing great. I was folding my fingers mentally.
"She is good now. She was a gone case after Jack, you know. She was very upset. It was very hard for us to bring her back. As of now, she is working at a local mall as accountant."
"Accountant? Seriously. I mean she is very intelligent, why is she working as an accountant?"
"I think she lost interest in her life. That's all I can say. See, you are a stranger so I can't definitely tell you everything. I can only tell what everyone knows. Other than that, I don't think I want to discuss her life when she doesn't want to talk about it."
"Sure, I understand. Here, please have my number. Do call me anytime if you think she needs my help. I can't say we are good friends, but I do care about her. I will try to talk to her. And please don't tell her I met you and talked about her. I will tell her myself."
"Sure."
I met Nicolle shortly after and her voice was extremely dull. Thinking about what Emma told me, I offered her to talk later and left for hotel with my Aunt.
I was driving back when my phone rang. I picked up the call. When I heard what Emma said, I pressed the brake so had, the car stopped with screeching noise.
"Alex, what happened?"
"Nicolle" I was unable to hold myself. "... Nicolle is missing."
We reached the café as soon as possible and asked Emma about what happened. She told us about her feeling dizzy. I asked the café manager about the shake and he told the glasses were in trash.
I became restless thinking about what she might be going through and I rushed outside. I looked everywhere but couldn't get a clue about anything. This place was a crowdy street where cars were not allowed. People used to park the cars nearby in a paid parking. If anyone took unconscious Nicolle, someone must have seen her. I checked the security cameras of the parking and found nothing. It was clear, Nicolle was still in the street, but where? And then I saw a motel at the end of the street and it hit me.
I immediately ran towards it and asked if someone checked in recently or if I can check the rooms. The receptionist declined to my request. I asked for the motel owner number which he gave immediately.
"Hello Mr. Owner, I am standing in front of your motel. I want to buy it, tell me the price."
"Sorry? Who is on the line?"
"Alex, Alex Colton, CEO of SC Group. And I said I want to buy your motel, name the price and it will be given to you."
"Sooorr...y S...ir, is there a problem? I am sorry if you are having any discomfort."
"Someone is missing and I think she is kept as a hostage here. So, either you let me check the rooms, or I am going to the police and complain about an illegal racket going on here. Now if that happens and I see her here, don't blame me. I will burn this city to the ground." I threatened him with a low voice, but the intensity was enough to convey my message.
"Sir we can't let you check all the rooms. But if you are suspicious about someone kept as a hostage here, we can turn on the Fire Alarm. That way all the guests can leave the room and you can check them."
"Do it right now."
"Sure." He said in a trembling voice.
I heard the receptionist phone ringing immediately, and as soon as the phone disconnected, he smashed a nearby glass and pressed the button. Everyone left the building in a panic and I was waiting anxiously. After 2-3 minutes the receptionist asked me to enter the building and I hurried to check all the rooms.
I was getting restless as I was checking all the rooms. A part of me wished her here and the other part was hoping she is okay, and not here. And the moment I saw her, in a room my body filled with rage.
She was in a room, tied on a bed, completely n***d, s***n all over her her body and face, multiple bite marks.
I was so angry that if I was not worried about her, I would have killed someone. My blood boiled seeing her condition and all I could do was close my fist so hard, that my nails started to dig the skin. I was standing there, like a statue clenching my jaw because there was nothing I could do. But I had to control myself, for her. I couldn't look at her, but I had to get her out of the room ASAP. I knew she needs a doctor right away as I saw her bleeding down there. But first I need to cover her.
I looked at my left and right, and luckily I saw a blanket. I wrapped her completely in the blanket, untie her and pulled her in my arms. I was thinking how should I get her out of here, when a maid came to me.
"Sir, we heard what happened. We called fire trucks and to everyone its looking like an actual fire here. You can take her out in blanket, everyone will think she got trapped in fire."
"Thanks, Thanks a lot." I didn't know how to thank her. I will come to thank her later, I thought and rushed towards the door.
"Alex, what happened. What happened Alex? Tell me?"
Aunty was continuously asking me, and I didn't know how to tell her what I saw. Emma was sitting in the back with Nicolle who was wrapped securely in the blanket. She was unconscious and Thank God she was, because the thought of facing her in that condition was too much for me. I cant think how she would have reacted.
"Please Aunty, don't ask me. Please wait till we reach the hospital and you can ask the doctor all the questions you want." I snapped at her as my leg was pressing the gas harder. I don't know how fast I was going because I didn't want to waste even a second to look at the speedometer.
