Chapter 35

Svetlana I opened my eyes slowly, looking around with intense shock and my eyes widened when I realized I was in my room. I sat up immediately, shaking my head rapidly. It felt like a dream and my eyes widened as I realized how I had been brought into the room. King Nikolai had brought me… It was impossible, he would never touch me, talk more about scooping me in his arms. It was impossible. It could be the better or one of the guards. There’s no way he would carry me. “It’s impossible… He hates me, he’d rather watch me die than touch me…” Pushing the thought out of my head, I dashed out of the room, heading into the kitchen. Along the way, I couldn’t help but notice the intense stares I was getting, it was obviously from proclaiming the king as my mate. I wanted to bury myself in the ground and never resurface, I filled with fear as I inched closer to the kitchen. A maid nudged her friend, staring at me. “Isn’t that the human?” One whispered and the other nodded. “Be careful around her.” A lady mumbled and both of them walked away, leaving me in shock as to what was going on and why I was suddenly being targeted. I know it was foolish of me to proclaim the king as my mate but it didn’t give them the right to discriminate against me. I walked into the bustling kitchen and in moments, the murmurs and laughter died down as everyone scurried around. They avoided me like plague, it was disturbing and it felt like the more I moved towards them, the more they ran. “Where is mistress Ashley?” I asked and a few maids burst into laughter, taking one long distasteful glance at me. “Humans have always been deceptive, I’ve never trusted them.” One muttered and the others nodded. “They’re the most cunning animals in the world, they do something and pretend to be innocent, we all have eyes, we’re not blind.” Another added, making me frown with confusion. I couldn’t understand a word that they said and it made me think hard as I tried to deduce the meaning from their words. I moved away and the crowd burst into laughter. “Take a loon at her, she prances around like the pack belongs to her, I’m sure she was brazen enough to call the king her mate because she f***s the beast. She’s so shameless.” “She thinks she’s special because the beast dumps his c*m inside her, she’s different from us, she’s a slut.” “A deceptive, little one. I guess what tricks she has up her sleeve now, and I guess she might make king Nikolai throw another person in the dungeon.” They gossiped and my eyes widened with horror. Ashley was in the dungeon, that cold, creepy place. I felt pity for her instantly, that place was hell and I hope she survives. I couldn’t help but wonder if the king threw her there because of me, it couldn’t be for me, this was probably her punishment for not completing a task or disobeying his orders. It had nothing to do with me and it was best if I butted out of it, before he sends me to an even worse place than yesterday. “I wish the king would banish her and send her out of the pack, at least to get rid of the unwanted human.” “I wish she could be thrown into the forest, where rogues can devour and make sure there’s nothing left of her.” A few maids whispered behind me and I pressed my lips together. I turned back, they glared at me as they slowly dispersed, grumbling to themselves. Gosh I wanted this to be over already, I couldn’t bear this happening for the entire week. A few guards walked inside, looking around. “I need five maids to head into the town.” He ordered and all the maids grabbed something, pretending to be busy while I was left alone. “Come human.” He ordered as he grabbed a few more maids and together, we stepped out. Once outside the pack mansion, we walked down the street, nobody knowing where we were heading to and not daring to utter a word. “Get to work, everyone!” The guard thundered as a large pile of fabric stood at the other end. We were to separate the silk from others and it was a really long process. The idea of acquiring one silk was a dream come true but I shook my head. From being a princess who was always draped in silk, I turned a slave who got the poorest of clothes. Gosh I miss my old life and I’d give anything to turn back the wheels of time. “Do not leave without making sure everything has been properly sorted.” The guard announced as he broke us into different groups. To my horror, more fabrics were added to mine and the rest were allowed to leave. I hit my lips, wiping away sweat as I continued. Astrid walked out, a huge grin on her face as she walked past me. She didn’t stop to taunt me, she merely ignored my presence which was both suspicious and great. By the time I was done, it was sunset and with my head bowed, I headed for the gates. Walking out of the gates, I stared at the street for a few seconds before I began working. I knew my way to the pack mansion but I had an eerie feeling inside of me. I felt my skin crawl as I moved further away from Astrid’s house. My heart was pounding, a few people stared. Some men spat at me, others glared and growled but I managed to walk past them. Walking into a deserted path, my heart began to race, it felt like I was being watched and followed. I glanced back occasionally, trying to make sure no one was behind me. I was halfway into the deserted path when I heard a snarl, I froze on the spot, terror running through my body as I began to shiver. My knees were weak and sweat broke out on my forehead. More frisks came through and looking around, I saw pairs of red eyes. Not two, not three and they were going to devour me to death. I turned around, trying to run out for help but to my dismay, I tripped over a stone, falling to the ground as my knees got bruised. I opened my mouth to scream, assuring myself people world come to my rescue but after parting my lips, words failed me, I couldn’t utter a thing.
