Chapter 16

Svetlana I opened my eyes weakly, shutting them instantly, pain spreading round my body as I frowned. I wasn’t dead. I was alive and I survived it. Why? Why was death being so cruel to me? I opened my eyes again, this time glancing around to find myself in an infirmary. Tears rolled down the sides of my eyes. My body was in great pain and in between my legs felt like it was being scalded every minute. I remained in the same position, still wishing death would give me a chance. The images flashed in my head, my screams echoed in my eyes. It sent terror round my body, it was nerve wrecking and I began to steer on the bed against my will as my heart began to race. “What is happening!” A healed screamed as she rushed over, she ran through the bottles of medicine at the side and picked out one, pouring out a little bit into a cup. She fed it to me as I trembled, it spilled at the sides of my lips but a few entered my mouth. I was rasping for breath, it seemed like I had forgotten how to breath, slowly, I felt my body relax as she dropped me back. She caressed my hair softly while I stared at the ceiling, unable to utter a word. She exhaled softly. “You’re so strong for a human.” She mumbled as she walked out, stopping at the door for a few seconds. She returned with a towel which she used to dab my face. The room smelled of fresh herbs, spicy and somewhat choking. “You’ll remain here for a few days so you can heal properly. I thought you wouldn’t make it. Poor human.” She mumbled, she was probably a human to have sympathy for me. I said nothing, my lips felt too heavy to move, just like my body. The aura changed suddenly and glancing at the door, my heartbeat spiked when King Nikolai walked through the door. His eyes were focused on me, it was terrifying, I felt my skin crawl as it felt like he was here to give me more punishment. My hands began to tremble and she grabbed them, bowing before him as she took some steps back, still holding and rubbing my hand softly. “She’s not dead.” He muttered, staring at me and she nodded. “Yes, your majesty. She’s really strong and brave for a human. She’s still shaken from the event, her body can easily go into a panic attack at any moment, if she doesn’t get help immediately, she could die.” She explained and he shrugged. “Don’t die while we’re still searching for your replacement, filthy human.” He ordered as more tears streamed down my cheeks. I wanted to curse at him, scream and call him all sorts of names but I moved my lips, opening my mouth but no word escaped. It felt like I had lost my ability to speak. “When will she be ready to serve the beast?” He demanded and her eyes almost popped out in shock. She tried to contain her dismay. “It’s uncertain, alpha. She’s brutally damaged, she has a tear that could turn into something bigger if she’s not properly treated. She’s going to be here for at least ten more days, Alpha.” She replied and he scoffed. “Let’s just hope the beast doesn’t get aroused, I’m not going to lose any of my men because of this human.” He muttered as he turned around, dashing while she exhaled with relief. “I know you’re terrified and I pity you for much. Nobody should undergo what you experienced. You’re so small.” She whispered as she walked away. She returned five minutes later with food and my stomach grumbled, reminding me of my lack of food. “Honestly, you’re stronger than I can imagine. Taking the beast on a full moon. The only woman who has ever satisfied the beast alone in all my decades was his Luna… due him to have left you at that stage, he must’ve been satisfied.” She muttered as she brought the spoon to my lips and slowly, I opened my mouth. “I really wish things hadn’t changed, the kings used to be very nice people. Their Lunas were blessings to this world…” She exhaled deeply. “We used to protect humans rather than hurt them…” She had a sad expression on her face. I was moved and more tears began to roll down my eyes. She was the one lycan out of a thousand who wasn’t interested in death, she wanted peace. “You don’t have to cry or worry about anything. I’ll keep you here until you’re perfectly fine. You’ll be healed in the next three or five days but you’ll have some time to yourself here. If the beast touches you again and you return here, I’ll still keep you for long, you won’t face him with a weak body.” It felt like she was making a vow. Her words were meant to comfort but it hurt, deeply. I would keep repeating a pattern, serve the beast, go through death and return here for her treatment for a repeat. Why isn’t there anything in my future unrelated to the beast? Why does my life have to circle around him? “I know you feel hurt but you don’t need to cry, there’s nothing that can be done. Nobody can rescue you from the beast, he would find you even before you leave the borders.” She whispered, feeling sad and folded my hands against her fingers, forcing a smile to my life even though I had forgotten how to smile. She exhaled softly, flashing a sad smile at me. “Everything is going to work itself out, the goddess will help you.” She muttered before leaving with the plates while I stared at the ceiling, wondering how many days I have left before my body gets used brutally again.
