Svetlana My lips quivered as I stood before king Nikolai. He stared at me, saying no words while his eyes burned my skin. “What are you?” He finally spoke and I swallowed; losing my head. “A… A human.” The answer didn’t feel right and I feared he was going to hit me but to my shock, he said nothing. He paced around for a few seconds, eyes locked with mine temporarily as I averted my gaze. “What have you done to the beast? Why aren’t you dead? Why did he heal you? Is there any power you’re using against the beast?” He demanded and I shook my head vigorously. “I… I’m a weak human, there’s no way I would be able to be able to use any powers.” I muttered and he scoffed. “Bring the human.” He ordered his guard as he walked out and Zina flashed me a sad smile as I hugged her tightly before letting myself get taken away. I was taken to the throne room and I swallowed as I knelt on the ground, wondering why he was suddenly interested in me. Just when I thought I would be facing the beast alone, he comes into the picture, making things even more difficult. He walked around me in a circle, making my heart pound heavily while I tried to mask my fears. “Do you drug the beast? Is that why he wants only you? Why aren’t you dead? The beast has killed more than five ladies after you, what makes you so special?” He demanded and my lips quivered as I tried to think about the best way to answer his question. It was impossible to think of anything and I just bowed my head, breathing heavily while hoping he doesn’t get angry and hit me. “Tell me, human. Are you hypnotizing the beast? You’ll not serve the beast for a week, the beast would only be served by others.” He announced and I heaved a sigh of relief. Joy spread across my face as I almost smiled. This news was the beast I had heard in weeks, hell in months. I wanted to jump for joy and dance around the pack house. Goddess knew I had never been this happy about anything in a long time. “You will remain here.” He declared and suddenly my smile disappeared. I raised my head to stare at him, disbelief written all over me as my eyes dilated. I shook my head softly, trying to convince myself that he was talking about something else. Astrid walked into the throne room, tears rolling down her cheeks as she flung herself at King Nikolai who looked irritated. “I am busy.” He snarled and she sobbed harder, trying to look as pitiful as possible. “You now refuse to see me because of a human.” She muttered and he gritted his teeth, clenching his fists while she fell to her knees. “Your majesty, have I done anything wrong? Have I been terrible at satisfying your needs lately? Is that why you’ve been punishing me?” She whimpered and he shook his head. “I’m busy with the human, Astrid. I do not want disturbance.” He insisted and she glared at me while increasing her cries. “I really wish things can be different, your majesty. It seems like this human has taken up the better part of your time. You focus on her too much.” She pointed out and he shrugged. “Leave, Astrid. I’ll be with you very soon.” He ordered and dejectedly, she nodded, forcing smile on her lips as she dashed out. Once she was outside, my heart began to race more as I stared at him, wishing he would dismiss me and make me return to the east wing. “Come, Human.” He ordered and with shaky legs, I moved towards him, my heart almost exploding as I neared him. I patiently waited for him to stop me but as I stood a few inches away from him, he said nothing, he only glanced at me impatiently. I forced my legs to move more and I stood so close to him that I felt the heat emanating from his body. It was scalding and terrifying. I lowered my head and I almost jumped in fright when his hand touched my jaw. He lifted my face, his rough hands pressing against my skin as he made me look at him. I couldn’t tell why he was doing this, it was strange but all I wanted was to be free of him. “You will serve me this week, I’ll see how the beast reacts to that and if he’ll try to kill me.” He announced and my eyes almost popped out in shock. I couldn’t believe him, my lips quivered as tears rolled down my cheeks subconsciously. I couldn’t pleasure him, I was barely hanging in with the beast; not to talk about him. He was aggressive, he had inflicted me with disease the first time I had seen him, there was no telling what he would do this time around. “What’s wrong? Your powers won’t work on the beast again? I’ll f**k you tonight and when that’s happens, I can’t wait for the beast to try to kill me. I’ll kill him first then finish you up later. You’ll regret using your evil powers in this kingdom.” He threatened and I swallowed. My skin had gone pale and my hands shook. I was trying to hold myself together and his hands that was pressed to my jaw was aflame as his claws dug into my skin. I was trying everything possible not to collapse in front of him and without another word, he let go of me, making me fall to the ground. My head remained bowed for a few moments as the tears flowed freely. “Guards! Have her prepared for me.” He instructed and a guard walked inside, pulling me out while I sobbed quietly, knowing no amount of protest could save me.
