I collapsed on the bed, shutting my eyes while impatiently waiting for sleep to take over.
I was exhausted, terrified and weak. Ashley was stunned to see me walking out without a bruise and it only made people more furious.
They stared at me, like I was a witch, like I was doing something to their beast.
Gosh I wanted to leave but it was impossible, I’d die before making it to the forest. The forest was an even worse place to be at.
It was filled with all sorts of creatures, scavenge hunters waiting for their next prey. Beasts that killed without hesitation, beasts whose only primal instinct was hunting.
“God, would I ever make it out alive? What about Ivan, how is he coping with this? Please keep him safe.” I whispered as I shut my eyes.
Shutting my eyes, I peeled my eyes open instantly when the beast flashed in my head. I shook my head, chuckling to myself because it was obviously a mistake.
I shut my eyes again, this time my thoughts wandering to my childhood and to my dismay, the beast appeared in my head again.
I frowned, squeezing my eyes shut while trying to push him out but the way he had stared at me in the evening replayed in my head.
It looked like he had been trying to say something or he could understand and see me. Like he was studying me for reasons best known to him.
“Are you insane? Rather than go to bed, you prefer to think about the beast.” I scoffed as I hit my head, wishing it would change my thoughts.
I turned to the other side of the bed, happy that I wasn’t in the slave quarters. But it wasn’t like I was better than them, I was a pig being fattened for the slaughter.
“Argh!” I groaned, turning around for what seemed to be like the hundredth time. I tried to block out everything from my head but it wasn’t working.
I exhaled as I rose from the bed, moving to the only window as I stared at the beautiful half moon.
“Is there a god watching me from heaven? If there truly is one, why are humans being suppressed and treated like animals by actual animals?” I asked, wishing I could get an answer.
I swallowed as I stood up, heading to the bed but to my shock, something suddenly shifted my direction, making me turn towards the door.
I frowned as it felt like there was something behind the door beckoning to me. I shook my head, trying to go to the bed and forget this ever happened but I found it hard to do so.
My heart was pounding and it felt like there was something pulling me towards the door. I exhaled deeply, accepting my fate if death was what awaited me.
I stepped out of the room, frowning as I glanced at the dark hallway.
I tiptoed towards the exit, unable to tell why I wanted to be outside but it felt like a thing I needed to do.
There was a pressing need inside of me, urging me to walk faster.
Arriving outside, everywhere as quiet, dark and eerie. I swallowed as I robbed my hand. This was a crazy idea… What if there was some creeping beast out here? What if I get attacked?
I stood rooted to the spot, staring at the darkness and slowly, the calmness of the room seeped into my body, making my worries reduce as I pressed forward.
I found a suitable area to sit, staring at the stars and moon, still unable to understand why I was standing outside, exposed to all sorts of dangers.
I was still busy counting and watching the moon when I felt a dark covering over my head.
I could feel the presence of another person and lifting my head up, my eyes widened in mortification.
I froze, my body shaking as I began to sweat. I couldn’t move or tear my eyes away. It was the beast.
He looked deadly, there were blood stains on his mouth and it tripled my fear. I was his next diner, there was no saving for me.
I tried to scream, opening my mouth to speak but words got stuck in my throat. I was hopeless, I couldn’t do anything.
“A… H…” I couldn't say more than the beginning letters, it was horrific, he did nothing, just stared at me while I thought about how to escape him.
There was no running away from him, my legs could fail me at any instant and to make things worse, his strength was more than thrice of mine.
“Argh.” My wail came out as a frail whisper when he collapsed to the ground.
I was shocked, watching as he fell to the ground, lying on his back as he stared at the sky.
His huge shoulders looked relaxed. He was scary but slightly toned down.
I swallowed, shutting and closing my eyes as I stared at him. Was this a joke? Was I hallucinating? Dreaming?
I felt brave being able to remain by his side. He did nothing to my shock.
Was he the same beast who has snarled and growled this afternoon? Was he the same beast who had almost ran into me?
God it felt like I was in a nightmare and I wanted it to be over. My body couldn’t stop trembling and I rose, tiptoeing as I headed to the door.
I didn’t dare look back, afraid that I might have eye contact with the beast and make him attack me.
Arriving at the door, I looked back to see the beast staring at me, his eyes were confusing but one thing was evident.
He could’ve killed me but he didn’t, which leads me to why the beast spared my life? There’s more to this than my tiny head can process. Please let this be a mistake or my hallucinations.
