Chapter 28

Astrid “The human now lives in the east wing.” My maid announced and my eyes dilated with shock as I rose from my bed. “A… Are you sure about this?” I demanded with shock and she nodded, taking a step back. “Argh!” I snarled, tossing my goblet on the ground, its pieces splashing around while I puffed. “No! That human can’t continue to remain in this pack, there’s no way I’ll let her take what’s mine! Something must be done about the human, swift!” I growled and my maid fell to her knees. “What would you have me do, mistress?” “Kill the human, I don’t care if the beast will cause trouble in her absence or even kill half the pack, as long as I’m getting rid of her, I don’t care what happens!” I replied and she swallowed. “I… That’ll be difficult, there’s no way we can easily enter the east wing, I can’t talk to any maid because they’re all terrified of king Nikolai.” She explained and I squinted my gaze, pacing around for a moment. “That human needs to die today, she’s slowly taking over. The beast now protects her, there’s no reason why King Nikolai moved her to his palace. What is so special about her? Why does the beast want her? Why can’t beast find another slave?” I demanded, clenching my fists as my thoughts wandered. I need to crush that human but it has to be discreet, without immediate involving too many people. It must also be perfect, if my accomplice gets caught, I need to find a way to bring myself out of the mess, goddess knew King Nikolai would kill me if he finds out. “Get the strongest poison you can find, I’ll be leaving for the easy wing soon.” I ordered and she bowed before dashing out. I grinned. I’ll watch her get poisoned and killed, glancing at the huge clock, now was the time for slaves to get their meals. With her getting poisoned and King Nikolai busy at the council, they would never be able to trace it to me. Moments later, I changed into my regal attire and with a grin, I stepped outside. “Astrid…” Mother called and I frowned. “Yes, mother.” “Don’t you think it’s time you stop parading yourself around the pack as the King’s girlfriend? If he wanted to make you his, he would’ve claimed you a long time ago…” “Mother, he is the king, do not rush him, have a little patience.” I cut her off and she inhaled deeply. “We’ve gotten some proposals on your behalf… Your father and I are going to choose the best suitor for you and have you married before the next full moon.” She announced and my jaw dropped as I shook my head vehemently. “No! You will do no such thing…” “Enough! You’ve spent two decades with the king, he is uninterested in you, Astrid, make peace with the truth!” She snapped and I scoffed. I shook my head vigorously and without a word, I dashed out while she screamed behind me. “That human, I’m going to kill her and now King Nikolai would not be bothered anymore.” I vowed as I entered the carriage. Arriving at the east wing, I was pleased to find the house empty. I stopped at the kitchen, glaring at the lowly cooks and maids who scurried around, bowing their heads at me. They were a bunch of pheasants. “Get me the maid in charge of the meals.” I ordered and moments later, a maid trembled as she walked behind me while I went to the carriage. I entered her carriage, beckoning for her to do the same before my guard began strolling around. “I want you to kill the human.” I ordered as my maid brought out poison and the maids eyes widened. Her hand began to tremble as her body turned pale, she swallowed, her lips quivering as she tried to form words. “I… Mistress… I’m sorry but… I can’t.” She stammered and I scoffed, raising a brow. “You will kill the human, it’s not a plea, it’s an order.” I replied and she began to tremble. “I… I can’t… She serves the beast and the alpha… the beast protected her from the slave master, what if he stops her? The beast is going to tear me to shreds if I do anything to her, I’m sorry but I can’t carry out this request.” She pleaded as she pushed back the poison to my maid and I chuckled. “The beast isn’t going to do a going and you’ll poison her now. You have two options, your life or hers. If you fail to do what I want, I’ll have the king inflict your entire family with diseases and toss you into the beast’s tower as prey for him. You won’t last a day… An hour, the beast has always been nasty, he’ll devour your entire family in minutes. You either do my witches or face my wrath. It’s your words against mine, nobody will ever believe a filter maid like you… You’ll never be able to escape me.” I threatened and her face dropped as she took a moment to think about my words. “Do it now, while the king is away. Get another maid to serve the meals while you come up with an excuse. You’ll escape it and the king will never find you…” “But… But… What… What if she survives it? What if I get caught? What if the beast steps in? I’m scared…” “Well I guess you’re ready to trade the life for hers. That’s perfect, I’ll get another person to do it. Have the guards find out the family she’s from and everything there is to her.” I instructed my maid and her eyes widened with horror. “Mistress… Please…” She whimpered and I stared at her intently. “Make a decision in the next minute or else watch your family suffer for your actions.” I deadpanned.
