Chapter 17

Svetlana I exhaled deeply as I rose. Zina was busy planting a few herbs and I let out a small smile as I walked up to her. “You should be resting? You’ve got a lot ahead.” She muttered softly and I swallowed, watching her closely, it was three days already and I was yet to get my voice back. I opened my mouth, trying to force out words. I hated how I couldn’t speak, she let out a little laughter. “You don’t need to force it, you’ll have your speech very soon. I’ll crush a few herbs for you, it’ll help.” She muttered as she rubbed my head softly, a smile dangling on her face while her eyes held distant memories. Maybe she was once friends with a human or she married one. “The guard is coming!” Her female attendant whispered loudly, her body filled with fear and she rushed me to the bed, draping a dress over me while she grabbed a kettle like she was pouring out hot herbs. “Is she fine?” He demanded, standing in front of me and I squeezed my eyes shut more, going rigid for a moment. “She’s recovering slowly, she’s a human, unlike us, there’s no telling if she’s not going to be out for more days, it’s important she doesn’t die.” She replied weakly. “The beast is horny, he’s been releasing pheromones on the maids and it’s affecting everyone, she needs to return as soon as possible. If over the next few days nothing is done, she’ll be offered to the beast like that. The beast doesn’t need her face, all he needs is her holes.” He replied, making terror fill my body for a moment. “He’s gone.” Zina whispered and I opened my eyes slowly, tears gathering in my eyes as I tried very hard to hold it in. All I could think about was home and how peaceful I would be now if I hadn’t made the mistake of going into the palace without. I’m doomed forever, there’s no escaping or redemption for me. “I know it hurts, everything will be fine…” She whispered as she pulled me into her arms, rubbing my hair softly. I inhaled softly, wondering if this was what a mother’s affection felt like. If she could treat me this way without being my family, how much more love would my mother shower me? “Do you have a favorite meal? Tell me the things you love to do and I’ll help you make them before you leave, at least have a good memory before you return to that place.” She shivered softly and I exhaled softly, shaking my head slowly. I just wanted to be alone to have time to think about my life and if possible, an escape, whether it would be suicide or with the aid of a person. “I understand you’re hurt so I’ll let you be for some time.” She whispered and I nodded, holding her hand gratefully before she walked out, smiling faintly at me. I guess not all Lycans were beasts, one out of the millions in the world was a nice person who felt emotions. I looked around, there were a few labeled bottles around. A crazy thought spiraled in my head and although I wanted to dismiss it, it persisted. “Wouldn’t it be unfair to kill myself in the house of the one nice person the world had?” I questioned myself as guilt slowly crept in. I shrugged, once dead I wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore. I wouldn’t be a burden to her and I would finally get a cud to be with my parents. Glancing around carefully, I grabbed her the one labeled position and pulling it open, I gulped it down, staggering to the ground as the bottle slipped out of my hand. My stomach knotted as pain spread across my body. I broke into sweat, groaning quietly with all my might as I pressed my hand to my stomach. “Just a while… The pain is nothing compared to the eternal happiness coming my way.” I assured myself as I began to roll on the floor, coughing out blood. The ground was covered in my blood and I let out a loud groan, unable to contain the pain anymore. It felt like my insides were being ripped apart slowly. Zina rushed in, glancing around with shock and her eyes almost popped out when she found me on the floor. “Svetlana!” She screamed as her attendants ran inside. I stared at her with guilt and sadness. I wanted to say something before I died, thank her for her kindness and apologize for parting this way but all I could do was groan and turn on the bed, the cutting pain in my tummy increasing with each moment. She rushed around, grabbing potions as she pulled out a cut. “Get the kettle! Get a new plate! Svetlana hang in there, I’ll make sure you don’t die, I’ll save you.” She promised and I shook my head, trying to assure her that this decision was one I had made peace with. She grabbed me, sitting on the bed as she began to feed me a potion. I clamped my teeth shut, the pain was unbearable but I was going to do everything possible to endure and end it. “Svetlana please… Please don’t do this to me… Please.” She pleaded with tears, her eyes heavy and although a part of me wondered why she was so concerned about a stranger like me. Her determination was compelling. She placed me in the bed. She whispered some words into the ear of her attendant who stood beside me, her hands pressed on my shoulder and I opened my mouth, gasping in shock. At that moment she poured the liquid into my mouth, a few slipping into my throat before I had the opportunity to pour it out.
