I slumped on the ground immediately as I entered my room. My heart was hammering heavily and my head pounded.
“What the hell have you done? Are you crazy? Please tell me this is a dream, God please let it be a dream.” I whispered as I slapped my cheeks, trying to wake myself up but nothing happened.
It was f*****g real, I called the beast and King Nikolai my mates. I knew very little about what it meant but I knew it was a gem wolves and Lycans used when they found women who they eventually got married to.
I burst into laughter, my throat aching from the forced, bitter laugh.
Married to? Like they weren’t a few steps away from killing me, they’d kill me before we had a proper conversation.
This was a joke, I don’t know what their goddess was up to but she had no good thing for me in store, maybe she hated humans.
Maybe she was trying to humiliate me in front of everyone, no wonder it happened at the party.
“Are you happy now, moon goddess? Isn’t this what you’ve always wanted?” I asked, staring up at the sky.
I inhaled softly as I folded my legs to myself. Only god knows what my life is going to become now.
What about king Nikolai? He said nothing, he didn’t order for me to be locked up or whipped, does this mean he’s planning something bigger?
My death perhaps? Argh! This is so insane.
“Why? Why me? I’m an innocent human who had no hand in the fight, why do I get to suffer? Why can’t you reincarnate my grandparents and make them pay?” I demanded, still staring at the sky but I bowed my head slowly as a thought occurred in my head.
“What if I’m the reincarnated version of my grandmother or grandfather, maybe that’s why I’m suffering alone.” I whispered as I got tears gathered in my eyes.
A knock came in on my door and I bolted to my feet, wiping my tears away hastily as I swallowed.
I pulled the door open slowly and Ashley stood outside. She had a furious expression on her face and almost immediately, a slap landed on my face, the pain stinging so hard that I bit my lips, trying to force back the tears that threatened to slip out.
“How dare you! A mere human claim to be the mate of our king!” She thundered, hitting me again and I staggered back, this time tears rolling down my cheeks.
She scoffed as she burst into laughter, taking a long glance at me.
“You filthy human, do you know how old our king is? He’s more than a century old, what makes you think you can be bonded to him? A weak human like you has the guts to want the king, you’ve been on your high horses ever since you started serving the beast, it’s high time you learned some manners!” She barked as she yanked my hair, pulling me out of my room.
“You’re a mere human, didn’t you make enquiries before you started cooking up your lies? A human can never be mated to a lycan, it’s impossible, it has never happened! You lying piece of trash! Humans are so full of lies and deception!”
I wailed as I followed her, moving as fast as possible. She threw me into a cold room, scoffing as she glared down at me.
“You’re going to stay here until you regain your senses and know your place.” She ordered as has shut the door tightly, chuckling softly as she walked out.
I folded my legs against myself, my lips quivering as I looked around. It was a dark creepy room and fear brewed inside of me as I hoped there would be no good creature inside with me.
I bowed my head, inhaling softly as I wiped my tears, I couldn’t do anything, I was scared and terrified.
I was shivering vigorously, my teeth rattled as my body went cold, it felt like I had been put inside ice, I was freezing to death.
from the looks of things, I wasn’t going to last the night, it was for the best.
Only God knows how long I stayed there but moments later, I heard King Nikolai’s loud growl and footsteps approaching.
I pressed myself against the wall, knowing he was here to inflict more pain on me.
“I… I’m sorry, your majesty.” Ashley cried out as she opened the door.
I was slightly surprised to see her walk in with King Nikolai.
I was shaking visibly, I couldn’t feel my hands and feet. I was expecting him to laugh, gloat and talk about how unworthy I was to be his mate.
But something else happened, the Lycan king didn’t laugh or mock me, rather he bent to my level.
I pressed myself more against the wall, trying to force myself into the wall, he was so scary and I couldn’t stop myself from shaking.
I flinched with horror when his hand shot out, waiting for him to yank my hair or hit me but he didn’t.
Rather he wrapped his hand around me, scooping me up in his arms. Gasps rang out, I was mortified.
It felt unreal, I felt restless in his arms, it didn’t seem right, I tried to get down but he only tightened his grip around me, pressing me to his chest as he glared down at me.
Maids parted around as they gave way, letting him pass with me,
I shut my eyes, knowing I was in a dream, it was impossible. I was hallucinating.
The king would never touch me, he hated me to the core, he’d rather die than touch me, I knew this.
Maybe I was in the arms of a guard, my brain was probably frozen. Deciding that it wasn’t the king, I pressed my head against his chest to relax slowly.
We arrived at my room and the guard placed me on the bed tenderly.
“Thank you… So much… only the god knows what I’d have done without you… I wasn’t on the verge of death and you saved me, you’re like my knight in shining armor, just like the beast, he always comes to my rescue whenever I’m in danger, he didn’t come this time around, maybe he no longer wants to help me… Maybe he wants me dead.” I whispered softly with my eyes tightly shut.
The guard didn’t react, he only glanced at me for a moment, a few seconds and he turned around, shutting the door softly and I let myself drift to sleep.
