There was a knock at the door of Lillah’s quarters. It woke her from her nap. The day had been turbulent, full of hard painful, tiring things but also full of new exciting things. After exploring her new rooms and jumping on the bed, Lillah had happily snuggled up under the covers as drifted to sleep. She dreamt happy dreams involving a certain dragon-shifter. The knock had her excited until she remembered that it was unlikely to be Beta Gaz at the door. It was going to be the Vermale she had ‘chosen’. The one she would have to breed with – and they would be starting tonight. Other than that snag everything else about being part of the dragon pack had been amazing so far. Alpha King Keegan had been so kind and gentle with her, even letting her still be able to shift and promising her the opportunity to go for runs. She had her own rooms. In her old pack the omegas had a handful of rooms between all of them and they had to share everything from clothes to beds. It wasn’t so much that she had minded sharing with the others but that it was out of necessity and not choice. The days were long and hard, full of endless chores and then when she became of age the nights had become hard and endless too. Thank the Goddess she had been chosen as tribute. Then there was Gaz… he was so dreamy. Lillah had resolved herself to produce a baby ice dragon as quickly as possible, then she could be with Gaz. With a surge of enthusiasm, she bounded to the large door and opened it. “Hello Lillah, I am Rhyland.” The gorgeous dragon-shifter at her door crooned. He was bigger than Beta Gaz in every way. Taller, with broader shoulders and larger hands. It made her shiver and her insides turn to jelly. Lillah gulped, suddenly concerned about the logistics of it all. Rhyland smiled, pushing his blond hair back out of his blue eyes. “May I come in?” “Yes, of course.” She squeaked in a small voice, her mouth dry. “I have prepared you a meal,” he announced, stepping inside. “I have also brought you a gift.” Rhyland offered out a box. It was heavier than she had expected but the contents weren’t a surprise. “Oh, what a beautiful rock.” She smiled, trying to sound genuinely appreciative while looking at the grey lump. “Here,” Rhyland, unconvinced, plucked it from the box and turned it so she could see the rock as it was intended to be displayed, “a fire agate geode.” “It’s so pretty,” she whispered, touching the highly polished, brightly coloured surface. Layers of red in all different hues that reminded her of Breeth’s eyes. “I’ve never seen a rock like this.” Lillah inspected it more thoroughly wondering why the rest of the rocks in the room were so dull. “Are you hungry?” Rhyland asked in a warm tone. The Omega seemed pleasant and he was very pleased that she had not only accepted, but had been enthralled with his gift, but she was not his type. Being chosen to help repopulate the ice dragons was a great honour and he was more than happy to do his duty but the female form was simply not to his taste. Chosen Vermales were made fully aware of how a female Omega was constructed and while Rhyland was sure she was a perfectly lovely wolf-shifter he did not understand the appeal of a woman. “Starving.” Lillah’s stomach rumbled to emphasise the point. “I will heat your food.” Rhyland moved to the stove, giving Lillah a chance to look at his ass. It was exceedingly muscular, to the point where she was thinking he could probably crack rocks in half with it. Perhaps that was how the geode the had gifted her had come to be. She giggled. Rhyland peered over his shoulder at her, a little confused, but made no comment. Stop drooling, Lillah. Neeri chuckled. Am not. Are too… Neeri rolled her eyes. “Do you have anything you would like to ask me?” Rhyland enquired after there had been a few minutes of silence. He had been told that Omegas were inquisitive but due to their timid nature required some encouragement. “I’m sorry, I don’t really know much about dragon-shifter culture. I wouldn’t know what to ask without being rude.” This dragon-shifter, who we have just met, is going to be intimate with us and put an ice dragon baby inside us – I don’t think we should worry about being ‘rude’. Neeri told her sternly. “That is no worry, I am aware. It is a new culture, full of strange customs but you are part of the dragon pack now. The Nest is your home.” Dishes clinked as he grabbed a plate from the cupboard. “You will need to learn it’s ways. The best way is to ask questions.” He turned with a full plate of food in his hands. Lillah’s body responded unexpectedly. A male was bringing her food, well a Vermale but still, it made a warmth spread between her legs. She was confused when he set the plate in front of himself and sat down. “Come.” He patted his lap. “It is customary for one to feed an intended s****l partner, an act of courtship.” Rhyland’s words made Lillah feel tingly all over, the warmth turned wet and she was aroused. Alpha Aaron would just grab her and toss her down where ever and whenever he wanted. Demand through the mind-link that she attended to him and so forth. He had never been kind or thoughtful – like Rhyland was being. “How old are you?” Lillah sat on his lap, looking up at his chiselled face. He didn’t look much older than herself, she would have guessed 18 or 19 but one of the few things she knew about dragons was that they lived for a very long time and aged very slowly. “I am 50 years old.” He smiled, placing a hand on her waist. It was large and hot; she could feel it through her clothes. “It may seem old to you but for a dragon-shifter it is young. I am only just considered an adult at this age.” “I’m 18.” Lillah told him shyly, “I’m also only just considered an adult.” Rhyland probably knew that, the dragon-shifters seemed very well informed on wolf-shifters (well except for the rocks), but she felt like it was a point of commonality and voicing it felt right. “That’s when I got my wolf, Neeri. Did you only just get your dragon?” “No, we hatch with our dragons present, shifting in the egg before we have even hatched. My dragon is Sarmin, he is blue.” Sarmin huffed in Rhyland’s head not impressed with being referred to as just ‘blue’. “Here, eat.” Rhyland hovered a spoon of food at Lillah’s lips. She went to take it, excited to be fed and taken care of, just like she had seen happen between Mates but a thought struck her and she stopped. “Beta Gaz said that you would bring a potion to induce my heat… is it in the food?” “No, it would be impolite to deceive you. Would you like it now?” He asked, perplexed. “Not just yet, it’s nice getting to know you first.” Lillah smile and ate the food Rhyland offered with confidence. “I am understanding that you had such a question but in line with your concerns about being rude – it is impolite to mention a male that is not part of a courtship when interacting in an intimate setting such as this.” Rhyland, like all dragon-shifters was protective of what was his and until Lillah produced an ice dragon hatchling, she was his. Mentioning another dragon-shifter while sitting on his lap being fed made him bristle. “No need to apologise, you are learning.” He offered another spoon of food. “B-” She realised she was going to mention another dragon-shifter again, well the same dragon-shifter and reworded her question. “My understanding is that dragon-shifters mate in throuples? Am I keeping you from your special someone?” “No, I have not found nor chosen my Mates yet,” He answered as she ate the food. “As I am to understand it, wolf-shifters usually find their mates quite soon after turning 18, dragon-shifters, however usually find theirs over the 50 to 70 years following maturity.” Rhyland debated with himself for a moment as to whether it would be insensitive to ask before deciding it would be insensitive not to ask. “Did you have to leave a Mate to be here?” “No,” She shook her head, “I didn’t meet my Mate yet, didn’t even sense them so they must be far away. Regardless in my old pack, Omega’s weren’t allowed to keep their Mates. If I had found mine, he would have been made to reject me.” Lillah said sadly. Most weren’t even forced to reject their Omega Mates – they did it out of disgust. “The Goddess would not be pleased with such behaviour.” Rhyland stroked her blond hair; her words having made him feel even more protective. “I am glad we have saved you from such a fate. I wish we could do more.” Rhyland fed her until the plate was empty. “Good girl.” He patted her belly. Lillah giggled and Neeri huffed. Don’t be like that, he is petting me not you You can like it all you want but if he pets me I’ll nip him! Neeri warned “I should like to bathe you now.” While Rhyland had not been instantly attracted to the Omega, following the usual steps of courtship was helping. The gift, the meal, the feeding was bringing his nature to the surface. “Is that part of the courtship?” Lillah asked, excited and nervous. She had washed not that long ago but if it was part of the customs then she wouldn’t deny him. “It is.” Rhyland looked down at her, his blue eyes full of patience. “Alright then,” She went to stand but Rhyland caught her, pulling her back on to his lap. She squealed at the suddenness. “Ehem, my apologies, it is usual for one dragon-shifter to carry the intended around once the courtship has started. I acted on instinct, but if you should like I will refrain.” Rhyland was a little embarrassed. “It was just unexpected; you didn’t hurt me.” Lillah reassured. “I’m happy for you to carry me.” She blushed. Neeri settled back in her mind. The wolf wasn’t overly please with how much Lillah was enjoying Rhyland’s attention, but it was about time they were treated nicely and while she was partial to the Beta, Neeri understood that they needed to do their duty first so there was no need to give Lillah a hard time over enjoying herself.
