We have a spy.

LIANA I had no choice. Refusing an Alpha's command meant death. Slowly, I took off the thick, dark jacket covering my chest, and placed it on the damp grass. His cold, blue eyes were focused on me, unwavering and intimidating. Taking all the time in the world, I started opening the buttons on my black, full-sleeve shirt. Though it was pretty dark, with only the moonlight falling upon us, I was still anxious to the core. What if he noticed the press pads I had been using on my chest to look flat? “Quick, Lancaster!” He whispered, sending a shiver down my spine. Once the shirt comes off, he would see the white pad wrapped around my chest like a bandage, tight and pinned. Moon Goddess, help me, please. Just when all the buttons were opened, I slid the sleeve off my left shoulder. Moon Goddess, please. The sleeve was almost at the bottom, when suddenly, Jacob came running, drawing Kyran’s attention to himself. “Alpha.” He bowed. “How dare you stand here without my permission?” A glow evoked in Kyran's eyes, dangerous and enraged. “A-Alpha, forgive me. The three elders are here and asking for an audience. Gamma Anthony gave me permission to enter the Silver Pool.” Without a word, he stepped out of the cold lake, and I instantly buttoned my shirt. Jacob quickly dressed him like a super-fast engine, and he left. My eyes quietly watched him until he completely disappeared in the dark. “Lancaster!” Jacob’s voice snapped the silence. My gaze switched to his confused face. “Why are you dressed in a lake?” He rested his palms on either side of his waist. “Nothing. It's just…” I came out of the water. Jacob picked up my jacket from the grass and handed it over to me. “Alpha was forcing me to bathe.” I wore the jacket over my wet shirt. “You reek of blood,” Jacob said, pinching his nose tightly. “You should have enjoyed the bath when you were allowed in the Silver Pool. “I am a little feverish.” He came inches closer, resting his palm on my forehead, and startled me. “You're cold.” “The fever is inside me.” A foolish smile stretched on my lips. “Come, let's go.” I walked out of his shadow, running straight to the Silver Quarters. Jacob followed me. The packhouse was more like a military base, with heavily guarded quarters, one huge common bathing area, and a canteen that could fit more than a hundred people. It was divided into three areas. Firstly, the Golden Quarters, where Alpha, his mother, and the Gamma lived. Secondly, the Silver Quarters, where the Alpha's important officials, like me, lived. Lastly, the Plain Quarters, where the maids, cooks, and guards lived. Except for the Golden Quarters, the other two quarters had common places to bathe and eat. Alpha, his mother, and Gamma had private washrooms in their rooms. Kyran's mother never stepped out of her room. Two maids always took her food to her room. She was still not healed from her husband's death. I heard Kyran has other relatives staying up there but I haven't seen them yet, especially his younger sister, who bullied me with him in school, Evie Salvatore. Since there were no women in any official position, only the Plain Quarters had a separate common bathing and eating place for maids and the cooks. The maids were busy because the three elders came unannounced. Their bathing place was empty, and I didn't miss the chance. When everyone was in the main hall, I took a shower in the last washroom of the bathing place. Coming back to my room, I changed clothes and headed to the main hall. Kyran was seated on his king-size, dark throne, whereas the elders and Gamma Anthony were perched on a long couch below the three stairs, facing him. His sharp, blue eyes spotted me among the rushed maids. “Lancaster, come here!” I walked over to him and stood on his left. The elders scanned me from top to bottom but didn't say a word. The pressure on my shoulders felt too heavy. “An aide should always be next to the Alpha.” That's the rule. Don't forget.” He whispered. My head nodded. “Continue the discussion,” Kyran ordered. The elder in the center rose to his feet. “I think it's high time you should choose a Luna. The pack has been waiting for a long time.” “How many times should I say it? I have no intention of getting married.” The words roared beneath his voice. “Alpha, you still haven't found your true mate, but we can't wait for long. You're 28 this year, a perfect time to choose a Luna.” He stayed quiet, yet standing next to him, I could feel the heat of his rage. “Do you have someone in mind?” Gamma Anthony inquired. He was Kyran's uncle, older than him, and a head. “Alina Winston. She's the only daughter of Daniel Winston, the business tycoon. Alina is the perfect candidate for Luna.” The other two elders stood on their feet. “Let Alina stay with you here. You two can get to know each other. Once you're ready, we will finalize the date for your wedding.” The three elders were superior to everyone. They always had the last say. Kyran didn't speak a word. Instead, he walked away. Gamma Anthony rushed after him. So he doesn't want to get married? Strange. In school, he was always surrounded by girls. After taking a stroll in the garden, I decided to visit his study to ask him if he had any orders. When I reached the door, voices came through the ajar gap. My eyes peeked inside. Kyran wasn't alone, he was with Gamma Anthony. “We have an enemy pack's spy in the packhouse?” Anthony twitched his brows. “Who do you suspect, Kyran?” “Who else? Leon Lancaster.” He said coldly. Wait. What? Why suspect me?
