This girl was not even scared of me. She does not cower like the rest. Instead, she got close and touched me. She was curious. Gentle and smelled of vanilla. I have been keeping an eye on the rest of the towns' people that were not killed. I regret allowing that woman into my life and my kingdom, but there is nothing I can do about it now other than keep those remaining alive and take care of them as best as I can. This girl, though, has been curious and watching me since she was young. There is something about her that is not normal, unlike me. She is not a beast, but she is not what she seems either. Her knowledge of the world is greater than a mere 20-year-old. She has knowledge of generations, and know how that would put my best mage out, like a student learning. There is something about her that just intrigues me and, apparently, that can be said for her as well. I want to see her again, but as the rest of the villagers are, so are her parents too, scared and unwilling to allow me to be close to anyone.
As I back away from her touch, she gets an almost sad look on her face which makes me sad too. Before I know it, my stomach is speaking to me and I have to go hunt. I would hate to harm her due to me not feeding. The look on her face really bothers me though, and I need to know why she is sad when I leave. Her name alone is familiar, but I just can't place where. I have a feeling when I find out it's going to be a roller coaster for sure.
I headed out into the woods to get a deer. I haven't hunted in a while and though I eat steak regularly, and I am healthy and fed occasionally, I like a fresh deer steak. I stalk the ground and find a good hunting area, the scent is strong, and the tracks are abundant. There are large deer here as well as elk. In my main house, people stalk the land with wildlife, so they can have food for themselves as well as for me to hunt when needed. We don't demolish the population, but we do make sure everyone is fed for the year. I am tracking a large elk now and his smell is getting stronger. My hunting is superb, and I am ready to take him down. However, I can't get Annabeth out of my head. Something about her just calls me and I have to watch and make sure she is OK. Dinner will have to go fast tonight, so I can get back to watching her. I feel that she needs protection and, at the same time, I feel like she has been protecting me somehow. I absolutely have to figure this out.
As I sink my teeth into the elk's neck, I can taste the warm blood and the metallic flavor. It is amazing to catch, dine, freshen, like this, but we need to regulate meat for the whole village, so I don't do it often. As I drag the Elk away, I see a beautiful white witch in the tree line, glowing and like nothing I have ever seen before. Her hair is jet black and her eyes are a glowing green. She is watching but not threateningly, more of a protection way and there is something about this witch that is very familiar to me. I continued on to the castle, wanting to eat quickly and get back to Annabeth. I reached the dungeon and put the elk in the corner. After ripping a leg off and eating it to the bone, I am satisfied and ready to make sure the curious one is doing okay. As I get back to where her house is in the village, I see that witch again, only this time she is at Annabeth's house, and she is not glowing anymore. I can still tell it's her by those glowing green eyes and hair, but her aura is no longer glowing like it was before. As I get closer to the house to finally get a good look at her and to check on the family, she lifts her head, only for it to be Annabeth. She is a witch, and now when I think about her as a child there were times when I thought I saw her as bigger than she was and grown, but when I turned back around she would be a child again. Something is definitely going on here, and I have to know what.
I approach her and all she does is smile at me and enter the house. Her parents welcome me not like the beast I am, but rather like their beloved king, whom they all used to praise and care for. As I close the door behind me, I look up and see Annabeth as a 10-year-old child again. It startled me so badly that I actually fell back onto the door and let out a shriek. Right in front of my eyes she grew from a girl to a full-grown woman that I know her as now. She smiles big and proceeds to explain. In order to stay hidden and protected, she disguised herself as a child and lived with a family arranged by the elders. She is over 300 years old and is a full witch. She has protected me throughout my entire life and will continue to do so. There is only one problem: I won't be dying anytime soon and this is not the first life I have known her in. She was my mate in our past life, meant to be again until the Lycan found me. I was never meant to be turned, and now that I have been our story has been rewritten. There is a whole new adventure awaiting us and I have no idea where it goes from here.
As she continues to talk, I realize that my kingdom can be saved, and I can be what I once was to the people. There will, however, be a price to pay, and I am not going to enjoy it, according to her. I want my life back, but this curse is not going to go away. I take what she says into account and ask for time to think about it. All she says is that she is not going anywhere and hasn't this whole time, so I can take all the time I need to think about it. I thanked her and her family and left to head back to the castle. This is a big decision and knowing who she is does make my choice a little bit easier. I will let her know soon. I just have to make a choice about a few things. My people come first, so that isn't even a problem. My choice to stay like this will result in my life being happy and me getting a real mate to rule with. My choice to get rid of the curse and the beast will result in total happiness for the kingdom still, but I will be alone and only have my people to keep me happy and remembered through the years. I know what I want, I just don't know if i can be this beast every night for the rest of my life.
