Julia POV I took a deep breath, forcing a calm I didn’t feel. “I’ll give you two a moment to talk,” I said quietly, slipping out of Ethan’s hold and heading down the hallway toward the bedroom. I could feel Lila’s eyes on me, triumphant and appraising, but I refused to look back. In the sanctuary of the bedroom, I closed the door softly behind me and sat on the edge of the bed, my mind racing with what I’d just witnessed. My chest felt tight, a prickle of tears threatening just beneath the surface. I tried to reason with myself—Ethan had chosen me, again and again.
