No f*****g way. Impossible. Whatever phrases you could use in the dictionary to describe this situation. She could hardly believe any of this was real but standing there with her rapid heartbeat seemed to have proven she wasn't dreaming and what was even more surprising was that this breathtaking man before her was hers, her mate. Damn. “Mate” she could hear Alya moan out in her head and she could feel her excitement and by the moon goddess she felt the need to pounce on him too. A sharp scream jolted her from her trance and that was when she noticed ‘her mate’ had thrown the man who he held in his grip away and he was now inching closer towards her. Something seemed to have clicked in her head and she covered her mouth, stepping away from the man that screamed danger despite Alya’s objection. Dorothy didn't know when he closed the distance that was once between them but his arms found their way to her waist, pulling her towards him before holding her by the chin as he moved closer and took in her scent. “Impossible” her legs felt like jelly when she heard his cold voice and a shiver went down her spine when he seemed to pull away in disgust with a look of confusion and anger. “Alpha Ace” Lucas, who she had met earlier, called out as he looked between them with widened eyes with Sofia by his side. What was that? She seemed to be deaf so repeat that again. She gulped and looked around, much to her dismay, the expression of everyone seemed to have confirmed that she wasn't deaf. Shit, what was going on. “Did you hear her say mate". “The king has another mate but that isn't possible” The sounds of whispers filled the room and everyone looked in horror. In the crowd, Killian seemed to have frozen in his steps as he watched the event unfold. “There seemed to be a mistake” Dorothy turned to the owner of the voice and she had never been this happy to see her father. “I think you must have been mistaken, Alpha, my daughter here can not be your mate” Dorothy’s father said as he bowed his head. But Ace paid him no attention, his eyes were solely on her and his gaze alone made her freeze in her spot, she found it hard to breathe. Dorothy wanted the ground to swallow her up right now. She had just been sold to one Alpha and now she's mated to a ruthless one. Can this get any worse? Her answer is answered when Killian walked between her and Ace, his back blocking her view from the intimidating man before her. She looked at his hand holding hers and then looked back up in surprise. “Alpha Ace, I am sorry for the disrespect but we here all know that no one can have more than one mate in their lifetime so this must have been a mistake”. Killain said, though he appeared confident, Dorothy could feel his hand tighten around hers. Ace didn't utter a word and she raised her head up a little to see him staring at Killian’s hand that was intertwined with hers. Even when everyone insisted it was absurd, she knew the truth—they were mates. How else could she explain the undeniable bond she felt toward him? Alya had been going crazy from the moment she saw him and from his scent alone, she was finding it hard to breathe. Her scenes were getting dull as the minutes passed by. Ace didn't say anything, his wolf wasn't doing any better either. Damien had been trying to fight against his restraint to rip the man before them apart. How dare someone touch their mate? “Get your f*****g hands off her before I rip you into shreds” It was a dangerous growl that didn't come from Ace but from his wolf. Killian released his hand but didn't move from his spot, and the two Alphas challenged each other. Dorothy moved back in fear, her eyes wide and she almost shed tears. What sin did she commit that was so bad that the Moon goddess gave her a cruel mate? She wasn't even desperate for a mate in the first place so why? Ace groaned and rubbed his temple, finally restraining Damien. His piercing eyes looked at the girl who seemed afraid of him and he frowned in disapproval. After years of seclusion from the world, the first thing that was thrown at him was a mate, why was the Moon goddess so cruel to him? He stalked towards her and as Killian tried to block him, Ace pushed him with one hand and Killian went flying to the wall stunning everyone. Gasps filled the hall and everyone backed away from Ace, scared they would be caught in the middle of the brewing conflict. Dorothy’s eyes widened in fear. She tried to run to Killian when she saw him cough out blood but Ace held her hand, pushing her harshly against the wall. She gasped, staring into his emotionless eyes. “Please– I-” she tried to find her words. f**k, she was scared out of her wits but what shocked her was that despite the fear she also felt drawn to him even when he looked like he was about to murder her in any second. “Mate” Alya moaned again and Dorothy felt like smacking her wolf. Why was she this happy when the so-called mate wanted to kill them? Ace tilted her chin up and suddenly smiled coldly, that kind of smile sent a chill through her. “I don't know what the Moon goddess must be thinking” He paused, leaning in closer– so close their lips almost touched. She yearned for it, the contact of his lips against hers but his next words snapped her back to reality. “But I will not partake in this nonsense” He growled, eyes narrowed with killing intent. "I, Alpha Ace, reject you as my chosen mate.".
