“So you’re saying you want to take her with you?” Ace asked, pointing a finger at Dorothy, an eyebrow raised in dry amusement.
Dorothy instinctively hid further behind Killian as she felt Ace’s gaze sweep over her for a brief moment. Her heart pounded in her chest, and she froze when she felt the suffocating killing intent radiating from him.
She was scared shitless, even her wolf who seemed to have a brain as small as a mustard seed whimpered and didn't dare say a word.
Now, imagine how Killian must’ve felt. The full brunt of that killing intent was directed at him.
Before Dorothy could process what was happening, she watched in stunned silence as Killian’s legs buckled beneath him, and he crumpled to the ground. Blood sprayed from his mouth, his body shaking violently as he coughed, desperately trying to fight against the wave of pain threatening to consume him.
“A-Alpha!” Dorothy gasped, her eyes wide with horror and disbelief. Without thinking, she rushed to Killian’s side, kneeling beside him to check if he's fine. What had just happened? One moment, Killian had been standing, and the next… he was on the ground, gasping for breath.
Dorothy looked at Ace in fear who stared down at her coldly. His eyes remained indifferent, but his lips curled into a cold smile as his gaze shifted to Killian, who was barely able to lift his head. “Disrespectful. Impudent and stupid”
"You should know better than to make requests like that. Who do you think you are, standing before me and demanding my mate?" Ace’s voice was low, dripping with venom.
The word mate sent a jolt through Dorothy, her heart skipping a beat, but Ace hadn’t realized what he’d just said. His mind was consumed with a burning rage that clouded everything else.
"Do you know what I do to the likes of you who dare disrespect me?" he chuckled darkly, taking a slow step toward Killian. His claws extended, growing at an impossible speed, gleaming with deadly intent.
Killian lifted his gaze briefly, his body trembling, his chest heaving as he fought to stay upright. His eyes dropped back to the ground, unable to meet Ace's gaze as the Alpha closed in.
"I take their heads," Ace continued, his tone colder than ever, "and I'll take yours."
But before Ace could take another step, his claws aiming for Killian’s neck, Dorothy found herself on her feet. In a heartbeat, her arms shot out, positioning herself between Ace and Killian, her body an unwilling shield.
Killian’s eyes snapped open, a surge of panic coursing through him as he watched Dorothy's desperate act. His muscles screamed for movement, and with a burst of strength he didn’t know he had left, he tried to rise, his instinct screaming to pull her out of the way.
But it was too late. He wouldn't be fast enough to stop it.
This was the second time she had acted as a shield for him against the ruthless man. What was he thinking coming here to demand the king’s mate? He hadn't thought this plan through and he regretted it.
But before the terrible scene could happen. Ace halted, his claws just a breath away from Dorothy’s neck, and as he stood there and watched her, the tension in the air grew thick and suffocating .
“What do you think you are doing?” he asked, retracting his claws effortlessly, his voice calm—too calm, as though he were moments away from taking a life.
Dorothy’s eyes snapped open when she heard his voice, and she took a shaky breath of relief when she realized she wasn’t dead. Her legs almost gave way, but she forced herself to stand tall, facing the intimidating man before her.
“I—I think it’s better I go with Alpha Killian, since you don’t want me in the first place, and we can’t break the bond. Then let me leave with him,” she blurted, her heart racing in disbelief at her own words.
For a moment, Ace said nothing. His gaze lingered on her, unreadable, as if he were processing the audacity of her statement. Then, to her utter surprise, without a single word, he moved with surprising speed. In one swift motion, he hoisted her effortlessly onto his shoulder, turned, and began walking away.
“W-what are you doing?!” Dorothy yelped, her voice strained with panic.
Ace’s tone remained calm, almost indifferent, as he responded, “Taking you somewhere where I can deal with this properly.”
Dorothy’s heart hammered in her chest as she struggled to make sense of his actions. Was he serious? Did he just refer to her as ‘this’!
Her eyes flicked to Killian to see if he was okay, and she breathed a sigh of relief when his beta ran up to him. Yet, Killian’s gaze never left Dorothy as she was carried away.
