Chapter 9Ben had to admit that their scheduled charitable afternoon amongst the teacups was exceedingly useful to their cause. Rather than Jo having to exert his charm to interest various bored ladies and gentlemen of the ton to assist disabled soldiers, everyone in the Bloomsbury drawing room was already actively engaged in charitable endeavours.
Ben found himself deep in conversation with an officer’s wife who had done a great deal more nursing than hostessing abroad and continued her efforts when she and her husband returned to England. As they compared useful medical contacts, Ben began to feel all the more assured about the value of banding together their individual good causes.
