Chapter 26At his desk in his cubby hole at Ben’s apartment, Jo worked through the correspondence cursorily, awaiting his friend’s return from his final consultation with Colonel Graham. He heard the slam of the front door. Ben’s shout to Cribbins with a demand for coffee caused Jo to drop his pen and march the few strides to the sitting room where Ben was struggling out of his coat before flopping into his armchair. “How did it go?” Jo asked. “Colonel Graham caught Beaufort red-handed, and the other culprit was arrested as he left the Carlingfords’ mansion.
