We walk hand in hand in silence for a while, until the path narrows and we have to separate. Kaine gestures for me to go first, I feel his eyes on me as we continue on our way, the pathway getting progressively more rocky and steep by the minute.

We come up to a fallen tree on the path, too big for me to climb over.

“Should we go back?” I ask

Kaine thinks for a moment. “Do you trust me?” He looks down at me with a very serious look as he begins to stretch his arms, moving his left arm over his head and holding the stretch.

I nod, holding his gaze.

I close my eyes and listen to the wilderness around us. Only it is completely silent. Eerie.

The last time I went hiking the woods were filled with noises of animals all around me. But now, it’s totally quiet.

“Going into the end of fall, a lot of them go into hibernation” I feel his shoulders tense for a moment before they relax.

I look up to see if he saw something that made him nervous, but I see nothing. I rest my head on his back again, closing my eyes. It’s not very often that I get complete silence, so I suppose I should enjoy it.

I must have dozed off, because the next thing I know Kaine is whispering to me to wake up.

“We are here” He kneels down to allow me to crawl off his back. My limbs feel stiff from being on his back for so long. I move my legs around for a little bit to get the blood flowing again.

“It’s beautiful” I whisper. I remove my backpack and take out the water bottle I packed, handing it to Kaine. He takes a sip before handing it to me, I have a long sip before setting it on a rock.

“So what now, you promised to be my hiking guide remember?” I say playfully

“Don’t worry, I have a plan” He gives me a coy smile. Making my heart skip a beat, he is so devilish handsome

“Oh?” I breathe

“Have you ever been to a natural hot spring?” He raises his eyebrows

I shake my head.

“Well today’s your lucky day. It is the perfect temperature for it. Let’s go” He grabs my hand and starts to lead me into the bushes.

“Kaine, wait.. I didn't bring a bathing suit”

"That’s okay, neither did I. I promise not to peek” He winks at me as he continues to lead me down what I can see now is a very old beaten down pathway. If you didn’t know it was there you would miss it all together.

We enter a cave and I’m hit with the smell of sulfur and warmth that immediately makes the fall chill in the air go away. After a moment the smell doesn’t bother me anymore, it’s just there in the back of my mind. The cave is dimly lit, but there’s a hole in the ceiling of the cave, giving enough light to illuminate the cave to let us see.

I see a pool in the middle of the cave, steam coming off it.

“How did you find this place?” I ask, looking up to Kaine who’s watching me

“I’ve been coming here since I was a teenager. I don’t remember how I stumbled across it. As far as I know nobody else knows of it. I’ve never seen any signs of it being used by anyone else”

“Do you take all the ladies here?” I tease
