Chapter Twenty-Two -

Thomas’ POV As people started to leave the party, I noticed a lot of the omegas had already begun cleaning up. It was nearly 1am. No one deserved to stay up this late cleaning when it wasn’t necessary. I walked over to them slowly, realising how heavy my body felt now that the adrenaline of the night was fading. They paused, confusion flickering in their eyes as I approached. “All of you are dismissed; go home and rest. I don’t want to hear of anyone in here cleaning before 10am tomorrow morning. You’ve more than earned a break. Tonight was amazing—thank you.” The audible gasp that followed caught me off guard. My brow furrowed. Had I really been so blind that I’d never properly thanked them before? Their work had always been there, quietly seamless in the background. Did I just… take it for granted? “Uh, Alpha—what about breakfast? We can’t make and serve with the ballroom like this.” “The pack can make their own breakfast. Besides, there’s leftovers in the fridge. I think they’ll survive.” I chuckled at the thought of Stefan trying to flip Jade’s morning omelette and setting the pan on fire. They’d manage—at least for one morning. The omegas smiled at me, their shoulders visibly relaxing, before finally leaving the pack house. Watching them go, I felt strangely lighter. It was worth every second to see them so happy. Closing the doors behind me, I headed upstairs toward my floor, where I knew Shannon would already be sleeping. Just the thought of her calmed me. Walking into our bedroom, her scent hit me instantly—sweet, grounding, addictive. It wrapped around me like a blanket. My chest ached with how much I wanted her, how much I needed her. I showered quickly, changed into clean pyjamas, then slid under the covers beside her. She stirred as I wrapped my arm around her, rolling into me like she always did, hooking her leg over mine and pinning me against her warmth. My hand drifted to her thigh, stroking without thinking. The softness of her skin was intoxicating. That’s when her arousal hit me, sharp and unexpected, and Atticus roared in the back of my mind. “Mate. Mate now.” His hunger was almost unbearable. My chest tightened as I forced myself to shove him down. Not yet. Not like this. I slipped from the bed and straight into the cold shower again, clenching my jaw, letting the icy water ground me until the fire dulled. Why did she have to undo me so easily? She was driving us both mad. Still, I knew—when the time came, the wait would be worth it. Eventually I returned to bed. This time I didn’t touch her, just curled close enough to feel her warmth. My gaze lingered on her sleeping face, so peaceful compared to the chaos of my own mind. Her chest rose and fell softly, her hair tumbling like silk across the pillow. How could someone so human hold my entire world in her hands? My angel. My Luna. My reason for every fight. Breathing her in, I let the comfort of her presence wrap around me until my eyes drifted shut. For the first time in a long time, sleep felt like peace. The sun crept into the room, warming my skin and pulling me from my dreams. I blinked awake, still tangled with my beautiful mate. My arms and legs locked around her, like I’d been afraid she’d slip away in the night. Ignoring the familiar ache stirring low in my body, I carefully untangled myself and headed for another cold shower. Goddess, it was getting harder every day to control both myself and Atticus around her. I hadn’t touched myself since the moment I first laid eyes on Shannon—it all felt wrong now, incomplete without her. I wanted her and no one else. After dressing, I leaned down to nudge her awake. “Shannon, angel, it’s time to get up.” She stirred, rolling over to clutch my pillow with a sleepy pout. I almost laughed. “Come on, sweetness. Today we start your Luna training.” That woke her instantly. She shot up and hurried into the bathroom, still half-asleep but suddenly determined. I groaned under my breath as her shorts clung in ways that had my self-control cracking. She glanced back at me, confusion in her eyes at the sound I’d made. “Is everything okay, Tom?” “Yeah—everything’s fine. I’m going to make us some breakfast, okay?” I pressed a hand over my trousers, trying to hide the evidence of my thoughts, and escaped to the kitchen. Rummaging through pans, I managed scrambled eggs on toast. Simple, but it would do. By the time I plated it, Shannon walked in wearing black leggings, a vest, and an oversized checked shirt. Effortless. Stunning. Mine. “I made scrambled eggs on toast,” I said, suddenly nervous. “Nothing fancy, but enough to start the day.” She smiled at me, eyes warm. “Oh wow—thank you. Why aren’t we eating downstairs?” “I gave the omegas the morning off. They do more for this pack than anyone realises—they deserve a break.” Her lips curved into something soft. “That’s really kind of you, Tom.” We ate together before moving to my office. I explained the files, the orders, the endless paperwork. As Luna, she’d eventually know every member—where they lived, who their families were, the struggles they faced. She didn’t seem overwhelmed, though. Instead, she leaned forward, genuinely curious, eager to learn. “Tom… there’s at least fifteen warriors, five elites, and countless omegas with young children. Where do they go when their parents are working?” I frowned, caught off guard. “I’ve never really thought about it. Normally the mothers just stay home until the children are old enough for school. Why?” Her eyes lit up with determination. “What if we built a daycare? We could train omega staff to care for the little ones, freeing up parents for their duties. It could double as a panic room during an attack—safe, secure, somewhere we wouldn’t have to worry about the vulnerable.” My mouth fell open. “Angel—that’s brilliant. I can’t believe I haven’t thought of it. It’s so obvious now!” My heart swelled with pride. “I’ll call a meeting with the contractors upgrading the gym. But you should be there too. This is your first project as Luna.” Her smile widened, and it warmed me straight through. She already wanted to build, protect, nurture. She was already becoming exactly what this pack needed. My chest tightened with love so fierce it almost hurt. I leaned back, watching her beam, and before I could stop myself, the words slipped free. “Angel… will you go on a date with me tomorrow night?” Her lips parted, then curled into the most radiant smile I’d ever seen. “I’d love to, my Alpha.” The way she bit her lip as she said it, eyes dark beneath her lashes, sent a shiver through me. I couldn’t wait for tomorrow night. For once, it wouldn’t be about duty or training or the pack. It would be just us—Thomas and Shannon, as the moon goddess intended.
