In the hallway, my mentor, Dr. Grant, sat alone on a bench outside the lab. He stared blankly at the small black recorder in his hand, his eyes heavy with something that couldn't be put into words. Guilt. Grief. "Dr. Grant?" Sean frowned. "What are you doing here?" "I told him to come." Dr. Grant stepped out of the lab, his expression grave. His gaze swept over Sean and his father, something unreadable in his eyes, before he let out a heavy sigh. "All of you, inside," Dr. Grant said. The lab was brightly lit. At the center, a harsh spotlight fell on the autopsy table, laying everything bare. On the table lay a set of remains, roughly cleaned, every inch marked with damage. It rested there, utterly still.
