CHAPTER NINE Two days after Thanksgiving, and her daughter’s condition wasn’t improving. Selma Frazier wrapped herself up warmly for the trek to the subway for her daily visit to see Louisa in the hospital. She shivered at the mere thought of being out in this weather today. But she loved her daughter fiercely, so she would brave both the temperatures and the crowds to do right by her. She tucked Louisa’s apartment key safely into the purse she wore cross-body to ward off any purse-snatchers, then pulled on her gloves and headed downstairs.
