CHAPTER TWELVE
February 2011 arrived in Seattle with its usual mercurial mix of rain, gray fog, and sunshine – sometimes occurring all in the same day. But the daily highs and lows remained level; for the most part, residents enjoyed high temperatures in the mid to upper forties and overnight lows only occasionally reaching the twenties.
In Fort Worth, February 2011 was marked by extremes – the lowest temperature recorded in decades at the beginning of the month, offset by a few highs of eighty-two degrees as March approached.
Rapid City, however, remained resolute, supplying constant proof that winter wasn’t over yet. Eric Nibless checked into his hotel room in downtown Rapid City after braving the day’s welcoming high temperature of seven degrees.
