Chapter 2

1914 Words
Kate P.O.V. I laughed a little and said, “He didn’t say much of anything. All he would tell me was that I should come here when I felt I had nowhere else to go. That I would find true friends that I could rely on. To be honest I didn’t fully understand what he was talking about.” Liam chuckled to himself and said, “Why don’t we go down to my office so we can discuss everything before we have dinner and introduce you to everyone else?” I looked at him a little funny and said, “Everyone else? How many people live here?” He laughed and said, “Our community has about 100 people or so. Most live in their own houses across the territory. Only about 15 people or so live here in the house.” Wow, that’s a lot of people here. I don’t know what my brother did, but he was very well liked and respected to be able to have that many people around who followed him. We went back down to the first floor and went into a spacious office that had a beautiful teakwood desk with chairs in front of it. Next to that was a couch and chairs with a coffee table in the middle. Behind the desk was a couple of filing cabinets and a bookcase full of books. There was a large window that looked out into the forest. He sat down at the desk as I sat across from him. He reached into the desk and handed me an envelope with my name written in my brother’s handwriting. I took the envelop and opened it to see a letter to me that read: My darling Katherine, I know this is probably not what you were expecting, but this was the only way to get you here. I know you aren’t happy with our mother and father; I’ve been trying to get them to let me bring you here, however they would always refuse. There are some things you never knew about us, and even more you didn’t know about me. I’m sorry that I’m not there to explain the truth. Liam knows everything, so trust him. I know that this doesn’t really help solve your problem, but hopefully it will help. I know you are confused about all of this, and I wish the explanation could be better, but it can’t. I love you more than anything, please just believe me when I say this is the best way for things to happen. Love you always Austin I read the letter 2 more times before I fold it back up and place it in the envelope. I look up to Liam who has been sitting patiently this whole time and asked, “What is it that I need to know?” He smiled and said, “How much do you know about the supernatural world?” has he gone crazy? Supernatural world? None of that stuff exists. I laughed at him and said, “What do you mean? Like werewolves, vampires, witches and all that stuff?” He just nodded so I continued, “None of that stuff is real. It's all myth.” He just hung his head as he said, “Goddess help me, this will not be easy.” He looked back at me and said, “Everything you know is a lie. Supernaturals exist. That’s just the truth.” Again, I laughed at him as I said, “There has never been any provable facts of any supernaturals ever having existed at all. I know my brother said to trust you, but you can’t just make a statement like that and expect me to believe you without something else to go on.” He smiled and said, “I didn’t expect you to just believe me. I do have proof, but I’m going to need you to keep an open mind about all of this. Can you do this?” I took a minute and thought about it. I have always wished for something awesome to happen to me. I wished I could be something more than myself, something other than an unloved, unwanted little girl. Maybe this is my chance. I looked him in the eye and said, “Yes, I can keep an open mind. Are you one of these supernatural beings?” He smiled and nodded his head. I asked, “What type of being are you?” He laughed and said, “I am a Lycanthrope, which is basically a werewolf. But the myths have it wrong. We don’t need the full moon to change. We can change at any time, it is called phasing. We are at peace with our counterparts, we can talk to them. We do have heightened senses and superior strength. What else would you like to know?” I looked at him for a second, would it be alright for me to ask? I’m still trying to wrap my head around all of this, but I always wanted this type of stuff to be real. It couldn’t hurt to ask him since he wanted to know what I wanted, so I said, “Would it be possible to meet your wolf? Does he have a name?” He looked shocked for a few seconds before he smiled and said, “His name is Greyson, and yes you can meet him. Let's go outside so you can see him. He is very interested in meeting you as well.” We stood up and walked through the kitchen into the backyard. We continued until we reached the forest and walked in a few meters. He motioned for me to stop, and I did but he kept walking a few more paces. He looked at me over his shoulder as he started to remove his clothing. I turned my head to the side but I still saw the rippling muscles of his back as he took his shirt off. I tried not to pay attention as he took off his jeans and placed it in the pile with his shirt next to his boots. I heard his bones crack and break; I looked over and saw a massive light grey wolf with glowing amber eyes. The sunlight shone down on his fur and made it look and shine like the softest silk. He wasn’t snarling or growling but just standing there with a wolf version of a smirk as I just stared at him. He sat down on his hunches and c****d his head to the side as if he was saying, what are you waiting for? OH MY GOD!!!! His wolf was huge, at least triple the size of a normal wolf. He towered over me, granted I wasn’t very tall to begin with. I mean I only stand about 5’4” and weigh about 125. I walked over to him and placed my hand over his snout, he made a rumbling noise at me. If he was a cat, I would’ve thought he was purring. I stroked through his fur, and it felt like silk sliding through my hands. I said, “Hello Greyson, I’m Katherine. You are very handsome. I’m not sure why but for some reason I feel very safe and comfortable around you and Liam. Can he hear everything that I say to you?” He nodded to me and just laid his big head against my shoulder to pull me close to him. It almost felt like a hug. I felt so warm and safe. It was just like the hugs Austin used to give me. The thought of Austin made me tear up. I missed him so much. I sniffled as I tried to pull away, but Greyson just kept his head on my shoulder and didn’t let me move. It almost felt like he was telling me it is ok to cry, that he was there for me and to let it all out. That’s exactly what I did too, I let out all my emotions that I kept held in. I clung to his fur and cried until finally there was nothing left inside. My sobs died down until there was only a few hiccups left. I pulled away and rubbed his snout. “Thank you, Greyson, apparently, I really needed that. You reminded me of my brother for a few minutes. I miss him so very much.” I turned around and before I knew what was happening, I felt warm arms wrap around my waist and hold me tight. I turned my head to see Liam with tears in his eyes as he whispered into my hair, “I miss him too. His loss was felt by the entire pack. Everyone misses him and yet, no one wants to mention him. Sometimes I just wish I could talk to someone about all the memories I have with him.” I leaned into him and said, “Yea I know the feeling. But hey, you can talk to me now. I bet I have some stories that will make you laugh.” We stayed like that for a few minutes before he pulled away. When I turned around fully, I realized that he didn’t bother with his shirt and his abs were on full display. I couldn’t help but stare at him until I saw the smirk on his face as he said, “Do you like what you see?” I felt my cheeks heat up as I nodded. I looked away as he pulled his shirt on and led me back to the house. This time I saw a bunch of people in the kitchen getting everything ready for what I assumed was dinner. He called a lady that I would say is in her late 20’s and introduced her as Maggie. She was very pretty, a little taller than me, I'd say around 5’7” and had a decent figure. She had dark blonde hair, ivory skin, pouty pink lips, all set in an oval face. But her eyes were a pretty honey color. He said, “Maggie this is Lady Katherine, she is Austin’s little sister.” And just like everyone else I’ve noticed that when his name is mentioned they all stand a little taller. She gives me a warm smile and tells us that dinner will be ready in about half an hour. She seems so nice. I hope we can be friends in the future. We head back to his office, and I say, “So who was my brother to you guys? I notice that everyone stands a little straighter when he is mentioned. And why did you call me “Lady Katherine”? to my knowledge I’m nothing around here.” He laughed and said, “Well you are half right, you may feel like you are nothing, but I’m here to tell you that you are very wrong. Your brother was our Alpha, which is the leader of the pack. I called you “Lady” because to the people here that’s exactly what you are. People stand taller in recognition of how great a leader your brother was. As I said we all miss him. He wasn’t Alpha very long but in the short time he was here he made everyone feel welcome and like family. He left you the pack, YOU are the next Alpha.”
