Chapter 5 As Ethan continued to open up to me about his part relationship and mentioned that her name was Charlotte. I couldn't help but notice the similarities between his ex and my cousin sister, who had gone missing for several years ago. The way in which ethan spoke about his ex manipulative nature, the way she had used him for her own gain, it all sounded very familiar to me. My mind began to wander back to my cousin sister, who had always been a bit of a wild, mischievous child. She had a reputation for being deceitful and manipulative, always getting what she wanted by any means necessary even if it meant hurting others. One time she had gotten pregnant for the son of a wealthy family because she knew they were desperate for a heir, she got pregnant for the sole aim of getting monthly allowance and special treatment from the family, so she could fund her luxurious lifestyle, she ended up aborting the child, having the family heart broken and moved to her next target. I had always tried to distance myself from my cousin's antics, but i couldn't help but feel a sense of responsibility for not being able to stop her. I listened to Ethan's story, i couldn't share the feeling that there was more to the story then meets the eye. I began to dig deeper, doing some research and asking questions, Do you know her age? I asked Ethan, she should be twenty seven, he said. What about her body size? I asked, she should be a size 10, he answered, Do you remember the colour of her hair? I asked impatiently, waiting for the right answer, so i can confirm that she's my cousin, she has a blonde hair just like yours. He said, disappointing me. We tried to search for her on social media with her name, but only different people popped up, i was at the verge of giving up when suddenly it crossed my mind that he or his friends might have a picture of her. Do you still have a picture or does any of your friends have her picture? I asked, he thought about it for a while and reached out for his phone, calling his friend and thankfully he provided a picture, here she is, he said handing over the phone to me. That's my cousin sister, i gasped. It turned out that Ethan's ex and my cousin sister is the same person. It seemed, she had been using multiple identities and had a history of manipulating and exploiting men for her own gain. She had a talent for presenting herself as vulnerable and innocent, but beneath the surface, she was a master manipulator. I was horrified by the revelation, and i couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt for not being able to stop my cousin's antics. At the same time, i felt a sense of relief, finally having answers about my cousin's disappearance. But Ehan was devastated by the news. He had thought he was over his ex, but learning that she may have been using multiple identities and manipulating multiple men was a harsh reality check. He began to question everything he thought he knew about himself and his relationship. "How could i have been so blind?" He asked me, his voice filled with anguish and hurt. "I thought i knew her, but i guess I don't even know a thing about her at all." As I took Ethan's hand, squeezing it softly, I felt a spark of connection that seemed to grow with every passing moment. "You couldn't have known," I said softly, looking deeply into his eyes. "She was a master manipulator. You weren't the only one she fooled." My words were meant to comfort him, but as I gazed into his pleading eyes, I couldn't help but feel my own heart fluttering. I was unconsciously falling deeply in love with this man, and it scared me. I knew I should get going, but my feet seemed rooted to the spot. Ethan's eyes held mine, and I felt like I was drowning in their depths. "Can I drive you home?" he asked, his voice low and gentle. I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I should accept his offer. But something about the way he looked at me made me nod my head in agreement. As we drove, Ethan asked if I listened to music. I smiled, and he surprised me by playing my favorite song. We both sang loudly, our voices blending together in perfect harmony. Laughter filled the air, and for a moment, I forgot about my doubts and fears. I was having so much fun that I didn't want the ride to end. But eventually, we arrived at my destination. Before I could step out of the car, Ethan rushed out and opened the door for me, ushering me out with a gallant gesture. He held my hand passionately, his eyes locked on mine, and I felt like I was melting into his touch. "Thank you for today," he said, his voice low and husky. And then, in a move that left me breathless, he landed a gentle peck on my forehead. I felt butterflies in my stomach as my face turned red, and I couldn't help but blush. As Ethan turned to leave, I watched him go, feeling a sense of longing wash over me. I waved goodbye, my hand lingering in the air until his car disappeared from view. And then, I stood there for a moment, my heart still racing from the encounter. As I walked in, I caught Sarah peeping through the window, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Spill, babe, are you two now in a relationship?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes popping out of her head like a cartoon character. She giggled like a little kid, her excitement infectious. I laughed out loud, feeling a blush rise to my cheeks as I thought about Ethan and me being in a relationship. "Can I at least get changed first?" I asked, trying to stall for time, my voice laced with amusement. Sarah wouldn't let up, yelling jokingly from the other room, "Don't keep me in the dark!" I chuckled, shaking my head as I headed to take a shower. "No, we are not in a relationship," I called out to her, the sound of the water muffling my voice. As I washed away the day's events, I couldn't help but think about Ethan and our encounter. My mind kept wandering back to his gentle touch and his piercing eyes. I felt a flutter in my chest, and I couldn't help but wonder what the future held for us. As we sat down to dinner, Sarah suddenly winced in pain, her hand flying to her temple. "Migraine," she groaned, her face contorted in pain, her eyes squeezed shut against the sudden onslaught. My chair scraped back against the floor as I shot to my feet, worry twisting in my gut. "I'll get something," I said quickly, already moving towards the door. I burst out into the inky blackness of the night, a desperate urgency propelling me forward. My eyes darted around, searching for the familiar glow of a pharmacy sign. But a cold dread washed over me as I took in the deserted street. The nearest pharmacy was at the junction – a significant distance, and the digital clock on a nearby shopfront flickered to 10:17 PM. The silence was heavy, broken only by the distant hum of unseen generators, and a prickle of unease crawled up my spine. A knot of fear tightened in my chest, but Sarah's pain overshadowed my growing apprehension. I started to run, the slap of my sandals against the rough pavement echoing in the stillness. My head swiveled constantly, my gaze sweeping across the deep shadows clinging to the sides of the road, searching for any flicker of movement. The silence felt oppressive, amplifying the frantic thumping of my heart against my ribs. Every rustle of leaves, every creak of a gate sent a jolt of anxiety through me. I hated being out alone at this hour in Ifo, and the thought of the long walk to the junction gnawed at me. But Sarah needed help. I pushed the fear down, forcing myself to run faster, my breath catching in ragged gasps. Just as I rounded a dimly lit corner, headlights suddenly blazed in front of me. A car screeched to a halt, blocking my path. Before I could react, two figures in masks materialized from the darkness – one stepping out in front of me, the other appearing silently behind. A rough hand clamped over my mouth, stifling my cry, while another arm locked around my waist. I thrashed wildly, a desperate struggle against their superior strength, but it was futile. They dragged me towards the open back door of the car, and the world tilted violently as I was shoved inside
