Emily’s POV,
After closing my clinic, I was waiting for a cab when a car pulled up in front of me.
It’s Alexander.
"Hey, Emily. Are you heading home? I just got back from a meeting, and I am heading back too. Let's go together."
I tried to decline.
"No need to worry, Alexander. I need to visit the supermarket to get some groceries. You go ahead.”
"You're unlikely to find a cab right now. I also need to get some groceries, let’s go together. Come on."
Alexander insisted.
After some hesitation, I got in the car.
Just right after I got to his car, my stomach started growling. And I could still feel my cheeks turning pink.
A tiny smile appeared on his face.
Today, Max ruined my appetite, then I had a serious patient in my clinic, so I got too busy to eat.
On our way, we passed by a nice restaurant.
Alexander stopped in front of the restaurant.
"Why did we stop here?"
"I was busy all day today and couldn't eat. Now I am really hungry. I'm sure you are hungry too after working all day. Let's eat here. My treat."
Alexander said with a smile.
We entered the restaurant, finding a cozy seat by the window.
A waitress came to take our order.
I ordered a bowl of medium-spicy ramen and an orange juice, and Alexander ordered some Thai food and a cup of coffee.
I could see the waitress was giving Alexander Starry eyes. Which, for some reason, made me feel uncomfortable and… jealous!
But when he paid her no attention.
Disheartened, she left, giving me a look of contempt. Like I robbed her of some kind of happiness.
But I think I know where she is coming from, because Alexander… he is definitely one of the most handsome guys I have ever seen.
He is tall, handsome, and rich. He has a perfectly built body and such beautiful blue eyes.
He is the epitome of the perfect man. One would certainly fall in love with him. Maybe I was falling too!
I was attracted to him from the very first day for some reason. And I still can’t forget the shiver I felt when he touched my hand. That feeling was… awesome!
That’s something I never felt before… Not the awkward kind, but an unexplainable feeling that I didn’t hate.
So seeing that waitress throw herself at him, “I was feeling… jealous???”
While I got lost in my thoughts, he asked,
“How was your day, Emily? Is everything good? You look really tired today.”
His voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
“Nothing that I can't handle. But today someone brought a cat. Poor thing fell from a high place and got injured. Someone rescued it and took it to me. But it's doing fine now.”
I said, keeping Max out of the story.
“Great job today. I also have a pet. I’ll show him to you some day.”
“Sure. What type of animal is that?”
“That will be a surprise for you.”
“Come on, give me a hint.”
“I won’t give you a hint, but I’m sure you’ll like it very much.”
He is surprisingly easy to talk to. I never thought I would enjoy these small talks with someone like him.
After a while, our food came, but this time another waitress brought our food.
Throughout the meal, I never saw that waitress again.
And that made me happy.
We enjoyed our food and then headed to get some groceries.
The supermarket is just near our apartment complex, so he parked the car in its original place.
And then we both walked to the store.
We took our time picking up our groceries.
After buying everything we needed, we came back. I thanked him for the dinner and for carrying my groceries.
He replied with a beautiful smile, "My pleasure."
After coming home, I started arranging the groceries, and even while doing so, I couldn't keep Alexander out of my mind.
So I decided to do something to distract myself and stop thinking about him.
And the best way for me to do this is by reading…
Fantasy romance novels are my go-to distraction.
I'm a big fan of fae, vampires, werewolves, dragons, and other supernatural things.
I have a dedicated bookshelf for these books that I've collected over the years.
Maybe I can call this my small library. A peaceful corner in my house.
Sometimes I really wish for these supernatural things to be real.
I mean, who wouldn’t like a person who can grow wings out of thin air, or turn into a wolf or a thousand-year-old rich vampire…
I know they are just fantasies.
And I am really pissed about that.
I mean, if they were real, I would definitely choose a werewolf.
Why?
Because why not? Who wouldn’t like a loyal dog, the kind that has only one mate in its lifetime?
So romantic…
Lily and I both share a love for these books and the same love for werewolves.
I opened my current read, and as I was enjoying my werewolf romance, my phone rang.
It’s my mom.
"Hey there, Mom. How are you?"
"I am fine, darling. How are you? Did you eat? You are not on a diet again, are you?"
"Yes, I had my food, and no, I am not on a diet. Right now I'm chilling with my new novel."
"That is good. You have to eat well, baby. I called to ask when you would bring your boyfriend home. It’s been a long time since you both visited together."
With everything happening, I forgot to tell my mom about my breakup with Max.
I stayed silent for a few seconds and then told her everything that happened between Max and me.
Mom was really upset after hearing all this.
"Don't worry, dear. You will find a much better guy."
Dad passed away when I was 5. Mom said he died in an accident, but never told me anything more than that.
I don't remember him much, but I know he loved me. After Dad, my mom is the only family left to me, and to my mom, I am everything.
We share everything with each other and are like best friends.
After talking to my mom, I closed my book and went to sleep.
I was somewhat anticipating seeing that wolf in my dreams again.
I really hope to see it again.
I know it's all my imagination, but who cares? I like that dream, so I want to see it again.
Thinking about this, I fell asleep. I was tired, so I slept soundly.
I dreamt again, but this time Alexander was in it too.
“I was standing in a flower field surrounded by trees on a full moon night. Everything was bright, practically glowing in the moonlight.
The gray wolf was playing and jumping around. It looked like a big happy puppy, and I was smiling at whatever it was doing.
Then I heard a noise from behind.
I saw Alexander coming out from behind the trees, wearing a loose white shirt and black pants.
He looked… happy. I could see his smile reach his eyes.
He was glowing under the moon.
Then he hugged me from behind, and I melted in his arms. I didn’t even try to resist. Just melted in his arms.
Then he whispered in my ear, - ‘YOU ARE FINALLY HERE. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU FOR AN ETERNITY. NOW THAT I HAVE FOUND YOU, YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME.’ Then he looked into my eyes and gently put a kiss on my lips."
Right at this moment, I woke up blushing from my alarm…
“Wow, that felt so real…”
