DEADLY BETRAYAL

Tessa's words echoed in her head as she fled, her foot pounding harshly against the hallway. "Liam just used you for his convenience." She stumbled and a hand shoved her from behind. She tumbled her body rolling roughly down the stairs, then she heard a familiar voice. "Just die and save everyone the stress." The voice said and then Candy's world went dark.Candy recognized the voice as Tessa's, her words dripped with malice. The sound of her own ragged breathing faded, replaced by an eerie silence. Her screams echoed through the hallway, but they were silenced by the crushing pain.Slowly Candy drifted back to consciousness, the distant sounds of beeping machines and fading voices filling her ears. Her eyes fluttered open and looking around she could see the sterile white walls. "She's awake." A deep voice sounded from a distance."Can you hear me?" The doctor asked gently. And she nodded slightly, wincing in pain. She turned around and her eyes locked onto Liam's, standing anxiously at the corner of the room, then the memories flooded back in."Liam just used you for his convenience." Tessa's voice echoed. Being pushed down the stairs, the whisper. "Just die and save everyone the stress."Candy's eyes snapped shut. She just couldn't bear the betrayal nor look in Liam's face. Then she reopened her eyes, searching for an escape and probably a way to wake up from the nightmare. She tried to move, but a sharp pain shot through her body. She winced as tears welled up in her eyes.Liam noticed her discomfort and turned to the Doctor. "What's going on with her?.""She suffered severe injuries, broken ribs and internal bleeding. We're running tests to assess the extent of the damage." The doctor said and paused, the heaviness of his next words obstructed his speech. "I'm afraid she may never get to walk again."Candy's eyes widened, as the doctor's words echoed through her head. "She may never be able to walk again?" She thought her world crashing, so what will happen to her dreams and aspirations?.Liam's eyes locked onto hers, filled with guilt . "Candy, I...I this was never the plan we...."She turned her head away. The doctor continued, "we have also noticed signs of emotional trauma. She needs to be comfortable."Liam nodded. "I'll take care of her." He said his voice barely above a whisper.Candy's thoughts screamed protesting. 'You've already broken me, how do intend to take care of me?'The doctor excused himself, leaving just Liam alone with Candy."Forgive me Candy." Liam whispered, but Candy's eyes remained shut. Forgiveness was a luxury she couldn't afford, or maybe if he would just press a little further she would consider it."Candy..." Liam continued regardless. "I know I hurt you, I swear it wasn't the plan. Tessa and I... We've just been entwined for too long, and she's helping me secure just the right contract to grow my company. I just can't let her go."Candy's eyes remained closed, her jaw and fist clenched."Tessa's not just anyone...she's carrying my child." Liam's continued and Candy's eyelids snapped open."You're telling me you cheated on me with my only sister and now she's pregnant?" Candy mumbled barely audibly and Liam nodded his face holding an expression difficult to decipher."I'm sorry Candy. I never meant to hurt you, but I don't deserve you.., you're too perfect."Candy's eyes contorted a mixture of hurt and brokenness. "You're choosing her over me?""I'm doing what's best for everyone Candy." Liam said softly. "You deserve better Candy, you need someone who'd love you genuinely."A tear slid down Candy's eyes. "So you're justifying your infidelity?" She asked bitterly."I'm trying to....""Get out" Candy cut him off with a loud yell, her body aching in the process. As Liam exited, her eyes filled with tears as realization dawned on her; Liam never truly loved her."How could he?" She whispered tears streaming down her face, it worsened as she realised he was having an affair with her only sister throughout the whole year of their marriage yet she was too busy to figure it out.The door creaked open slowly and Tessa walked in, a bouquet of flowers in her hand, her smile mocking. "Hey sis," she said her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Thought I'd bring some cheer to your dull room."Candy glared at Tessa from her bed where she laid vulnerably with so many wires connecting her to the beeping machines. "Get out!" She spat.Tessa paced the flowers on the bedside table, her eyes glinting with malice. "Awnnn, poor Candy" she coed. "Guess you're finally trapped in that broken body, far from perfect.”"you did this to me" Candy flared trying to get off the bed, but the doctor's words echoed in her head so she held back."Accidents happen, kiddo." Tessa shrugged."How do you even sleep at night?" Candy mumbled tears sliding down her face. "I'll never be able to walk again because of you...worse of on my anniversary day."Tessa chuckled mockingly. "It's no longer your anniversary sweetheart, you were trapped in comma for two weeks."Candy's eyes dilated in shock. How come nobody told her?."Karma's really a b***h" Tessa continued. "Now Liam will never leave me… and guess who's carrying his child?.""You'll pay for this I swear." Candy yelled angrily, then winced slowly."Don't stress yourself sweetheart." Tessa smirked sinisterly, patting Candy's hair softly. "You'd have to be alive, to exert vengeance."Candy's countenance turned guarded as she took her gaze to Tessa. "What do you mean?.""I don't know why you didn't die the first time," Tessa said her gaze growing dangerous. "But you're not escaping death this time."Candy's eyes widened in horror. "No!" She pleaded."I should call mum and dad first." Tessa mumbled with a smirk.Candy gasped shockingly. "It's been two weeks and they're not aware yet?" She's always been quite distant from her parents and siblings but this? Is rather unexpected.Tessa just shrugged dialing her parents number, her fingers trembling with excitement. "Mum, Dad..Candy had an accident." She mumbled once the call was answered.Mrs. Whale's voice was cold and rather devoid of concern. "What happened?"Tessa's smile grew her eyes gleaming with triumph. "She slipped and fell down the stairs." Mr. Whale grunted dismissively. "That's unfortunate. She's too fragile.""I'm not sure she'll recover" Tessa said with a mock smile."Whatever, just keep us updated." Mrs. Whale said slightly uninterested."I hope this doesn't disrupt our dinner plans with McKenzie's" Mr. Whale Shrugged. "Candy's always been too fragile to face life." He said his void devoid of empathy."It certainly won't." Mrs. Whale mumbled and the line went dead."See...even your parents don't care" Tessa snickered and her hands moved swiftly, disconnecting the life supporting machines...
