Tessa's hands moved swiftly, disconnecting the life-supporting machines. The alarms beeped enveloping the room, signalling Candy's vital signs plummeting.Candy's eyes froze and her chest went still. The machines surrounding her fell silent too and with a satisfied smile, Tessa turned around and walked away, leaving the VIP ward .Liam sensing the Chaos and the panic which the doctor rushed in, tried going into the ward, but was prevented. After moments of relaxing by the wall in anticipation, the doctor approached, with a sober look. "I'm sorry, Mr. Tanner, but we couldn't save her."Liam's face crumpled. "No...this can't be." He mumbled trying to get tears out of his eyes, but his eyes betrayed him, no tears came out only a hollow grief.The doctor patted his shoulder softly and walked away. Standing there Liam's felt a sense of relief wash through his veins. "She's really the master of her game." He mumbled knowing that his secrets were finally saved. The lies and betrayal would finally be entombed with Candy six feet's below the ground.As the medical team staff began preparations for Candy's departure, Liam's gaze lingered, his thoughts hidden. His thoughts drifted to Tessa, awaiting her next move and just as though nature planned it all out, a shadow appeared and turning around, Liam sighted "Tessa" he mumbled with an exhale."Our secrets are safe." She whispered with a sinister smirk.Liam nodded, his thoughts aligning with hers, although Candy's death wasn't his plans what could he possibly do? After all, with her gone their secrets were safe and hidden.Tessa's gaze lingered on Liam, her expression a mixture of satisfaction and caution. "You owe me," she whispered turning to leave.Liam watched her disappear into the hospital corridors, his thoughts reeling.What had he gotten himself into? What would she demand next?.After concluding things at the hospital, Liam made his way back to the car with a lot of thoughts running through his mind. The Whale Family, how was he going to break the news to them and how would they react? He thought. And just then his phone buzzed."Tessa?" He whispered, answering the call."No, it's me, Mrs. Whale," a cold voice replied and Liam's heart sank."Candy?" Mrs. Whale asked her voice rather detached and Liam hesitated, picking his words carefully."She's ..gone." He stuttered and the line fell dead."I see.." Mrs. Whale said finally. "We'll make all the arrangements."From her tone, all Liam could detect was calculation, with no emotions."How about Mr. Whale?" Liam asked softly."He's... indisposed." Mrs. Whale mumbled."I'll just inform Tessa then" Liam's offered sensing the distance and uninterested in her voice."No need," Mrs. Whale replied coldly. "She's already contacted us."Liam's eyes narrowed as he wondered why the conversation seemed rather forced instead of natural."We'll discuss at the funeral." Mrs. Whale muttered "and we're also aware, Tessa is having your baby." She added and Liam's heart skipped a beat."I...I can explain" he stuttered."No need to, Liam. Tessa already did. See you at the funeral, it's good radiance anyways." She muttered and the line went dead.Liam's grip on his phone tightened, different thoughts running through his mind.Is there anything Tessa hasn't told them yet?The more he thought about it, the more scared he became. Dr. Lee, the attending physician said the moment Detective Emily Banks walked into his office. She nodded slowly with a cold expression on her face."You said the case is important."Dr Lee nodded. "And I'm so glad you agreed to investigate the case." He said, his voice low and concerned."What makes you think something's off doctor? And since you felt so, why not check the CCTV footages?" She asked her interest heightening.Dr. Lee hesitated before speaking up. "CCTV footages aren't instilled in the VIP wards and Candy's vital signs were stable until...until someone disconnected her life support."Emily's eyes narrowed. "So you're saying...someone messed with the Life support?" Dr. Lee nodded slowly. "So any suspects?" Emily asked documenting something on her notepad."I'm not certain, plus this case involves the Almighty Whale's family." Dr. Lee mumbled."I've seen cases like this before, the powerful and influential people always feeling like they're above the law." She said with a bitter expression. "I'll look into it Doctor. Thank you for your candor."Dr. Lee nodded slowly "and please, be careful you're dealing with the Whales.Emily nodded. "I'll try my best. The truth must be uncovered at all cost." She got off the chair and shook hands with the doctor before walking out of his office with thoughts running through her mind.Getting to the hospital corridor, her phone rang momentarily disrupting her thoughts."Detective Banks." She answered. "Who's on the line?""This is Vivi Whale." A cold authoritative voice rang and Emily's grip on her phone tightened."Mrs. Whale, what can I do for you?""My sources say, you're investigating the Cause of Candy Whale- Tanner's death." Mrs. Whale stated her voice rather imperative. "I'm telling you to drop it because it's a family matter.Emily's eyes narrowed, how'd she figure out so soon? "with all due respect ma'am, I have a duty to investigate unnatural deaths and that I will do.""You do realize who you're speaking with right?" Mrs. Whale chuckled loudly, sending a chill down Emily's spine."I won't be intimidated to compromise justice." Emily said slightly gritting her teeth."Drop the investigation now." Mrs. Whale ordered and the line went dead.Emily's jaw clenched so did her fists, tightening her grip on her phone. She knew how far the Whale's influence reached, but bluntly, she wasn't going to back down.So what if the matter involved the high and mighty? She won't take any orders from them. After all she works for the state and not them.Getting to her car, her partner was seated worried and the moment he sighted her, he spoke up. "Emily we've got a problem.. The chief just called asking that we stand down."Emily's eyes flashed."the Whale's case right?" Ryan nodded and Emily sighed..How fast does news fly to the ear of the mighty? She thought and with a defiant look she turned to Ryan."So what do we do?"...
